  • The greatest opening score.A classic film with great actors sandwiched between this great music score .Wonderful....

  • Mr Gray: I'm not your Mr B-B-Brown (mocking Brown's stammer) Mr Blue: I once had a man shot talking to me like that. Mr Gray: Yeah, well that's the difference between me and you, Mr Blue. I always did my own killing.

  • This theme screams 70s movie....incredible stuff. One of the alltime greats! :O

  • Oh Yeah... now this is my favourite music score of all time. The test of quality is it s durability.Great stuff..Love it...

  • In this opening credits much drive than in remake

  • the dvd menu music is very good. who know what is this song?

  • @ganglifeboy13 Taking Pelham One Two Three opening

  • An awesome title sequence to an awesome movie...one of the best of the 70's.

  • I love 80's metal.....but this theme song......

you just knew people were going to die......

what matches it, anyone with 2nd favorites ?

  • When I heard this theme, I just knew this was going to be one badass movie.

From the first horn stomps, it just sets up a siiiick movie! After seeing it for the first time I can say this movie was as awesome as the theme.

  • Everything about this film is awesome. Politically incorrect, genuine and downright original. Loved the crunching theme, makes me think of the hustle and bustle of NYC and the trains relentlessly running along. The remake? PAH! UTTER SHITE! The opening looks even better with the original United Artists 'entertainment from transamerica corporation' logo appearing as the music opens...

  • The best classic ever made!

  • an absolute juggernaut of a theme tune; utter genius

  • Classic seventies!!!

  • 2 people think the theme to "Gilligan's Island" is great music.

  • great theme for a classic film the remake is dog shit like the actors in it

  • Great theme. I still would rank Don Ellis' theme for the French Connection "harder." But this is great.

  • You can keep your Woody Allen, your "French Connection." IHMO, THIS is one of the greatest New York movies of all time. And this is David Shire's best film score ever.

  • @CreoleCW

I totally agree. Best NYC movie ever.

  • Sounds like a drum and bugle corps.

  • Yeah Fuckin savage track!!! Kicks ass

  • FUCKING AWESOME!

  • This is a proper film!

Anyone who doesn't think that can "blow it outta yer ass, Mr Blue"

  • I once had a man killed for speaking to me like that, thats the difference between me and you, i always done my own killing!

    i love that line, wicked

  • this music is hard as nails and they play it again when the money is being counted and delivered

    to the hijackers ,booyah!!!!

  • pick up this sound track in charity shop for 25p - top sound track

  • Powerful Groove.

Simply, a work of art to make history.

    Awesome!!!

  • love the music even the new southern comfort ad(UK) has this theme music in it,

  • @TRANSAM19777

seen the tail end of 123 last night and caught this. been wondering what it was in for ages. Pure Class!!

  • KICKASS!!

  • Any film that starts like this is gonna be great!

  • nothing beats the original. R22's rule over R160 clunkers. The new movie is good. but it is fiull of holes. And one still destroys Bloor -Danforth 123.

  • Most Serial music sounds like nails scraping glass, but this and Stravinsky music really have class.

  • Wonderful movie !!!!!!!!

  • Llevo tiempo detrás de esta película y de la banda sonora

  • I can't think of many films where the opening music captures the ensuing story as perfectly as this. It's filled with tension, pulsating tones, and a percussion background that almost sounds like a train.

A striking opening score to a memorable , classic film from an era where films were produced with interesting plots, combined with great acting and directing, without the need special effects or computer animation crap.

  • To be fair, the 'era' you're talking about was the 70's. There were LOTS of films made in the 70's that were complete crap, just like lots of films in the 60's, 50's, and so on. I always find it odd that people directly equate "special effects" with "bad movie". "Star Wars" was made only 3 years after this film with lots of special effects and it was a pretty good film. I love "Pelham", but I don't use it to denigrate other films.

  • @lordxur err lets not pretend the 70's wasn't the the 'golden' age of hollywood either. In Starwars the special effects took the leading role. Today it's overused. i suppose they can't afford the lavish sets like they used too.

  • @bally28 The golden age was actually 1910s to 60s.

  • @drmorb i stand corrected...i meant 'new hollywood'

  • This movie version is way way way better than the 2009 version. The music was even kick ass

  • I like cheese...

  • One of the most powerful opening scores ever. Incredible.

  • yeah and I always thought the drummer should have been given a medal.

He's amazing if you listen to what he's doing.

  • @antihostile

I totally agree....This was back in the day when they actually used real Instruments....

  • The remake was not crap--

Problem is--if you saw the first one--you can;t help making comparisons--

HEY--dofferent city--different times--but the remake fit in well

  • This score holds fond memories..I was introduced to this a while ago and I rocked it

  • is there any where u can download this

  • I purchased the soundtrack off iTunes. Great stuff.

  • in fairness there is a lot of racism in the film, however, a friend of mine who grew up in new york in the seventies has assured me that this racism is a pretty accurate reflection of the time and place. i don't think the film is necessarily racist, some of the charachters are though. but then maybe i'm not reading between the right lines here can you elaborate on your comment,

  • I would not say that there is "a lot of racism" in the film AT ALL. The movie depicts NYC in the 70s and certainly there are differences between ethnic groups. Walter Matthau's embarrassing scene when he realizes that the Japanese visitors have understood every sarcastic word he's said is beautiful. Only a very progressive and non-racist writer could have come up with that scene.

  • @derfunkhaus yeah right that movie is straight up politically incorrect 70's b-movie fun.

  • @derfunkhaus And the scene when hes shocked the Inspectors actually Black is funny too...

  • It is not man! Where are you getting that from? Explain there.

  • Good.

  • This movie rocks!! The remake sucks!!

  • i agree there - especially with the ending, this ones ending is much better then the new ones

  • I'm not even gonna see the new one! No one can top Robert Shaw as the bad guy!

  • man, this is the most suspenseful thriller I've ever seen, owns the hell out of the remake.

  • you can sample some shit from this soundtrack

  • I still love the original movie !! Mr. Blue, Mr.Gray , Mr.Brown & Mr. Green

  • well i finally seen the remake of pelham 123 , i'll tell you this the movie was great! but they should have called David shire for the music . i did'nt like it" John Travolta played this best role ever!! kick ass bad guy !! the right person for the part!!

  • I so agree, Copout!! Wasn't the music great as well?

  • I'll tell you this. the 70's where the best of times ! Call me old fashion but i love original movies like the French Connection & pt 2 , Mean Streets, The Seven Ups, & Pelham 123 may i say more" & it was cheap to see a movie i remember i only pay .75 cents Oh man" what great memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have 3 more words for you......"Dog Day Afternoon".

  • I watched the original Pelham 123 like 1 million times! lol

I'm a techno/trance/hip hop producer looking for some new fans!!! Please check out my channel and Subscribe! =)

  • Great cast, soundtrack, screenplay and ending. I hope the remake can live up to the original.

New York, New York, the city so vile they had to warn you twice...

  • This movie pretty much summed-up what living in New York in the 1970's was like: Gritty, dirty, rude, tough, crime-ridden and hopeless!

  • Great post, slappy6817 - agree entirely. This movie also had one of the coolest endings in movie history!

  • One of the grittiest, hardest, most badass theme songs in movie history!!!!

  • @slappy6817

I totally agree...And they actually used real instruments....they don't do that anymore...Damn It..!!!

  • Can anyone upload this music? I'd love to download it!

Thanks for uploading the opening titles to the film! Absolutely great film, can't believe it's being remade, but the same as all remakes it won't be anywhere near as good as this one!

  • there is an MP3 extractor somewhere on the interwebz you can use to take the track. I used it to get the "god walking on the face of water" theme on the ending of HEAT.

  • awesome music!!

  • after watching that i have the urge to dance like in westside story... and JAZZ HANDS....

    8-)

  • Best soundtrack from the seventies! And the movie was awesome. How about that Tarantino lifting all that "Mr. Pink," "Mr. White"... Oh, sorry, I guess it was an "hommage." Thanks for posting!!!

  • Wasn't David Shire the husband of Talia Shire (from the Godfather and Rocky films)?

  • I gotta say...that music is tight!

  • Well, that's answered my question (you're right though).

  • Yes, according to the IMDB (Internet Movie Data Base), David Shire was married to actress Talia Shire from 1970-1978. They have one child together and are now divorced. He has been married to actress Didi Conn since 1984 and has one child with her.

  • If there was any movie that summed-up New York in the 1970's,(AKA: Hell-On-Earth),it was this one!!

  • Can someone please post the 'Gasundheit' ending of this film ???

  • Longman, the motorman, sneezed on the radio. Garber heard him sneeze as he was about to leave his apartment, and made the connection that Longman was the fourth man.

  • one of Robert Shaw's best films

    on par with jaws

    the soundtrack is great ,

    good luck finding the LP

it was botleged a few yaers back in the uk

    but still like gold dust

  • The remake of 'The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three' starring Denzel Washington in the Walter Matthau role, and John Travolta in the Robert Shaw role, has been scheduled to be released on Friday, July 31, 2009.

  • Why remake this, and didn't Denzel Washington make that movie when it was called The Inside Man(which was a good movie). Walter Mathau was great in this movie, cynical world weary, and unheroic. And Shaw was chilling.

  • Truly awesome song credits

  • Thank you James, great theme, great movie

  • BAD ASS FILM BAD ASS MUSIC
