While maybe 50 million light years away is perhaps astronomically "nearby", I don't appreciate misleading headlines out of Nasa that say a black hole is nearby. As this old saying I heard goes, what does this have to do withe the cost of beans. While interesting to a degree I feel like this has very little practical application for your average person.

When I first studied gamma ray bursts I noticed that they were from outside our galaxy. However, the kind of star that could possibly collapsed to form this black hole could be a Spectral Luminosity Type B, A or likely even a type O. Blue giants (type B), blue super giants (type A) or even a blue hyper-giant (type O) are exceptionally massive but dense stars and have a short life expectancy. But, they go in a big bang (supernova) and could form these black holes.

A big thing about this is that we are actually LOOKING at a black hole. They have been known about and mathematically and physically theorized about, but up until now we have never just looked at one. So this is a really big find!
