  • Thank you for this vid! Love Anthony and Philip is great too! :-)

  • The best men to do this song! I've heard no better version, Philip and Anthony have the most beautiful and powerful voices! :)

  • Bloody brilliant!

  • Perfection

  • If I was Lily, I couldn't choose between the two! :P

  • WOW! I hope you've got more from this concert!

  • Ah. (: I love when this song is done right.

  • I can imagine Snape singing this.

  • @ClauHenA I know right?

  • He has her eyes, Harry has Lily's eyes.

  • Philip Quast is wonderful but I don't think Anthony Warlow disappoints either! These are my two favorite male voices on Broadway and it is wonderful to hear how they come together.

  • Poor Snape.

  • @teobugbee1

I thought of this song during HP7 as well ha

  • @teobugbee1 You're too funny! LOL

  • @fakeandgay27 I have no idea either how you could dislike this! The recording quality isn't the best in the world but other than that, I'd say perfect.

  • Can i ask youtube a question? How in the world was this video aloud to have a dislike bar. If the three people that disliked this video can convince me something's wrong i will remove this comment. Good luck because you're wrong.

  • I just got chills during this.

  • DAMMIT, PHILIP QUAST IS ADORABLE.

And I like how almost every comment is something about Philip Quast as Javert.

  • @elsabear99 Actually it would be nice to see comments about other roles. So much more to PQ than Javert.

  • its amazing...the reason this song is so thrilling is that it tests the average baritone and tenor the the reaches of their range.....philip quast does both parts equally well. god i love quast!

  • Oh My!!I almost cry hearing this song!!!Quast is amazing, he has a deep chocolate voice X3!!!

  • absolutely love this song :) just recently did a rendition of it myself thanks for posting this! :)

  • 3 people have never seen lily's eyes

  • just amazing

  • Warlow was also fabulous as Enjolras in Les Mis.

  • I actually have a recording where Quast sings the other role in this song. He pulls them both off really well! Also, Anthony Warlow has a wonderful tone. :) Love love love

  • i love this song. they are amazing.

  • woah philip quast was Javert? no way! i never knew that! Javert just totally rocks my socks. so does jean valjean. 24601 <3

  • Absolute perfection. Warlow and Quast are Gods, no other way to describe them.

  • HOLY CRAP! Quast and Warlow? this kicks all kinds of ass.

  • Just adore it!

  • If you like this version check out @BradRobinsMusic. I think you will really enjoy that as well. Look up Brad Robins "Lily's Eyes".

  • God has a voice, and he gave it to Philip Quast.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! Gives me goosebumps. :o)

  • "Those eyes that never saw me, never knew I longed to hold her close, to live at last in 2 - 4 - 6 - 0 - 1!!"

  • @Dannyhuppjazz What about 24601? What does it mean? :)

  • @daydreamer1991white Hahah its from Les Mis. Philip Quast played Javert and it's tough to picture in other roles after seeing it.

  • @Dannyhuppjazz Correction. He IS Javert.

  • The 2 most greatest singers together. Never thought I'd see that.

  • Oh. MY. GOSH.

  • Does anybody know where I could get this version of this song? It's so amazing!

  • @videogeek333 type w w w dot vid2mp3 dot com and converte it!!!! i love this song!!

  • @videogeek333 it's on Anthony warlow's album the best of act one. you can get on itunes

  • I was just in this show at my high school and played Ben Weatherstaff and Major Holmes. It's a great show, this is a great song, and this is the best I've ever heard it performed. Bravo

  • @ekehart - Yeah...I was joking. I'm aware that this is Secret Garden. Quast is so iconic as Javert that it's hard to see him in anything else.

  • So, is the bald guy supposed to be Valjean or something?

  • @erikullestad Really?!?!? This isn't Les Mis. This is from The Secret Garden. Although Phil Quast was best (IMO) as Javert, he was in plenty else. This is gorgeous stuff.

  • Neville Quast IS Neville.

  • Quast could sing this to me any day lol

  • Their voices are orgasmic. Fantastic duet!

  • there is similarity in their voices

  • Who were the three who missed the like button? Sad...

I LOVE this song. I LOVE that Philip Quast and Anthony Warlow duet in it. Love love love.

  • i could not be more in love with philip quast.

  • This song is seriously like my favorite song! The lyrics are actually really sad. Great job, it sounded amazing!

  • Philip Quast has such a powerful, passionate voice... He is amazing no matter what he sings.

  • OH MY GOD I ADORE THIS SONG!!! Such a brilliantly passionate duet! I completely understand why it's your favourite!

  • those two guys are so so soooo amazing... my fav tenors

  • Are there any duets with two male characters that are as good as this one? I don't think I've heard another.

  • @HagbardCeline42 Yes, and with Phillip Quast. (not a surprise) Look up The Confrontation Les Miserables Tenth Anniversary Concert

  • This song is so beautiful, I listen to it over and over! Thanks very much for the upload.

  • I get chills whenever i see this!! i love this song so much !!

  • That last note never fails to bring goosebumps...had forgotten how much I love this song...and especially these two performers!! Awesome, simply awesome!!

  • oh phil! your dulcet tones! and anthony warlow is no slacker either!

  • We all must thank Australia for these two wonderful men.

Philip is my fav actor and he has a unique voice indeed.

  • These two amazing performers once made me consider moving to Australia...

Beautiful song... if only the video quality's better. Thanks for posting.

  • Hearing Quast sing anything else than Javert is a much minor problem for me than hearing anyone else singing Javert - for me no one could even equal Quasts performance!

  • @holidaysinsweden I agree. I can't listen to any other Javert but Quast's -- I refuse.

  • I'm pretty much in love with this song <3 So beautfiul, I can't get enough of it =,)

  • I loved this duet from the first time I heard it at central michigan university; but they got nothing on these two!

  • "How can he see the girl and miss those hazel eyes... 24601!"

  • @snowstersc2 hahahah thts brilliant

  • @snowstersc2 hahahahahaha! genuis, love love love your comment!

  • does anyone know where to get more philip quast music? I love him!!!

  • well, he played Javert in the West End TAC production of Les Miserables :) just youtube: "Les Mis TAC Javert" or just "Philip Quast" :)

  • Philip Quast looks so different without sideburns and a ponytail.

And I agree with hpsmteddi: How can JAVERT be in love? You just don't see it happening...

  • Haha! I completely agree! I thought the exact same thing. I've seen many Quast preformances and it all comes back down to Javert <3

  • Seriously? We weren't insulting him at all. Philip is my favorite actor/singer. I'm just stating that Javert was the first character I ever saw him as and it became my favorite performance. It has absolutely nothing to do with his talent (which he has an amazing amount of, by the way.) Please stop being so sensitive.

  • Enjy's cheating on R!

Sorry, I had to interject that.

    Enjy+Javvie+awesome duet= EXTREMELY HAPPY FANGIRL!

  • Comment removed

  • i must record this song with someone and post it on here its beauiful a tear comes to my eye everytime i hear it

  • i've never seen this musical, but this song makes me want to see it. it's so beautiful! it's great to see Javert and Jekyll/Hyde singing a song together, they are both amazing!

  • I don't understand... How can Javert be in LOVE, of all things?!?! (Sorry...you knew it had to happen)

Interesting... Javert (the Quastie) and Enjolras (dear Mr. Warlow) in love with the same girl! (In Les Mis terms, possibly COSETTE!!!) :)

  • two perfect male voices, amazing

  • Philip Quast and Anthony Warlow are utterly amazing.

And who else thought of Snape and Lily Potter the first time they heard this? Just from the name and the focus on her eyes and the unrequited love thing.

  • Totally thought of that the first time! The song's sad enough on its own, but thinking about that made me cry...

  • I know, right?

And Philip Quast does kinda remind me of Snape...and of Alan Rickman...with the deep voice and the dark and dangerous look etc.

  • I was actually thinking of rewriting this song to be Harry Potter related (making hazel into emerald), though besides Snape, I was wondering who would sing the other part.

  • Lol well it could always be, like, James' ghost or something.

    Bit lame though, maybe?

Could be Harry singing about his mother, I suppose...you'd definitely have to adapt the lyrics though. Haha.

  • Sirius?

  • Possible. The song could take place sometime before they both bite the dust.

  • Quast and Warlow singing together. I think I died and went to Heaven.

  • Thats not Philip Quast. Philip quast has long hair, side burns, and works part-time as a french policeman.

    Sorry, couldnt help it.

  • *nod* Agreed.

  • lol

  • Is Phil a lefty?

  • this is an amazing song. makes me cry.

  • I keep coming back to this song. One of the most beautiful songs in any musical. This is a fantastic interpretation by two top notch performers.

  • so do i, almost every day

  • I think that 'The Secret Garden' is much like 'Les Mis'

    ^^ This is very good ! ^^

  • The singing is very comparable, although the scope of the secret garden is much more focused than the very complex plot of Les Mis.

  • True however the French Revolution was stipidly complex

  • I love Philip Quast, but I prefer him with sideburns and a trenchcoat. :) I don't really like his curly hair here...he reminds me too much of Marius Pontmercy! :/

As usual, he has a great voice... This song reminds me of Stars from Les Mis. :)

  • This is one of my favorite songs... I just wish the recording was better...

  • How I love this song. It is beautiful in every single way. As fingersfly43 said, once heard never forgotten.

And Anthony Warlow and Philip Quast, they are both amazing, nobody could have done this better. I fear I will never be able to listen to this song again with other singers, I will only compare everything with these two, because in my opinion, they are and will always remain the best. ;)

  • yep...def right...I tried listening to the Broadway version and it sucks big timeee

  • Though I love quast, I dont quite like how he sings here... For once, I think there are other versions better than this...

That doesnt mean this one is bad, though...

  • I absolutely love this.

    Everything about it.

    Perfection.

    Truly. =D

  • I have the highlights CD of this production of Secret Garden and this song is definitely the standout. Once heard never forgotten!!

  • those eyes that never saw me, never knew i longed to hold here close to live at last in Philip's eyes :p

    lol

    great song, fantastic singers

  • I have eyes for you Philip!!

  • I'm singing this song for a recital...No pressure, lol

  • With someone else, or both parts by yourself?

  • Ive head this sung by everone from High Schoolers to Opera singers, but Warlow and Quast remain the best ^_^

  • Thank you for posting this, this is the first time I heard the song and I love it!!

    Awesome!

  • 24 hours later...and I have had this song in my head all day, couldn't wait to get home from work and listen to it again ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • I love love love this song. It melts my heart.

  • This song always makes me think of Harry Potter...'She has Lily's eyes!', LOL.

  • how can you compare this with anything else known to man? And anyway, Lily Potter's eyes were GREEN, not HAZEL. But I will admit, the first time I heard the song, I thought the same thing.

  • I absolutely love Philip Quast's voice, there is such a rich resonance to his voice that I envy so much!

  • Philip Quast is God.

Also, he kicks so much ass as Javert. So much ass is kicked.

  • as if we already didn't know that...lol ;)

  • Oh bother...I can't remember much about The Secret Garden's plot...who is who?

  • Anthony played Archibald Craven, and Philip played Dr. Neville Craven, Archibald's younger brother.

  • Thanks. Now, who's Lily? XD sad sad sad

  • Lily, in the musical, is Archibald's late wife, whom Neville loved secretly.

  • Lily was a identical twin sister

  • @yajunwindbell thats funny considering Phillip is older by like 5 years

  • I would actually sell my soul to duet with Philip Quast!

  • The best duet I have ever heard.

  • I've never heard Philip Quast has done any role on Broadway, not to mention understudying. I know he starred in the West end production of Secret Garden around 2001.

  • @yajunwindbell he was javert too.

  • stil pretty fun to see two baritones doing performing this tenor-duet more or less flawlessly :p

  • such a fantastic pairing or performers. I love them both.

  • hey, the guy who played Doc Craven in the original recording sounds like the guy who played the Wolf in "Into the Woods" on broadway with Bernadette Peters!

  • That would be because they were both named Robert Westenberg, and they also happen to be the same person. Very perceptive.

  • ^^ Thank you!

    Thanks for confirming! x]

    -nena

  • Yep, that's Robert Westenberg. Same guy!

  • You know whats funny? i'm planning on doing this with the guy who played Javert in our version...i played Enjolras. Ironic.

  • I'd kill to be Neville!

  • Quast is beautifull

  • Both geniuses, perfect phrasing. I was just cast as Archibald. I only hope to deliver half of the goods in this rendition.

  • put your soul into the role and whatever comes from that will be just as amazing.

you just have to put yourself there :)

  • I just bought a best of broadway book and this song was in it. Problem is....... The music doesn't start until about 1 minute or so into THIS recording....... Is this recording not the correct one???? I want the music for this exact recording. :-)

WOW, I talked in MAJOR circles there sorry!

  • Spent a long time looking for a decent version of this song on youtube. Wow, was this worth the search. Awesome.

  • I found a decent version a few days ago. It's not live, but I found it to be really quite good. It's two brothers named Mays. You should check it out.

  • philip is the best!!!

  • U cnt beat a bit of quasters

  • Oh, how I love this!! <333

  • This is fucking amazing. i love the secret garden! great musical. but it's hard to beat Westenberg and Patinkin. :)

  • I'm so used to seeing/hearing Quast as Javart, it's bizarre seeing him looking so young!

  • And when I say 'Javart' I do of course mean 'Javert'

  • and also, he's the same here as as when he played Javert in TAC!

    and oh so brilliant...

  • and when I say 'he's the same here' I do of course mean 'he's the same AGE here...'

  • Quast sings this better live than on the actual recording! Warlow is the dude as always...

  • They are wonderful.

  • two titans right here!

  • just perfect.

    love this song.

Warlow's voice is beautiful. you can't compare anyone to him :)

  • amazing, i love this song, amazing

  • amazingly I never noticed how good Philips voice was until I heard this.

well i hadn't heard him sing anything other then the songs he sang on play school

  • you should listen to him at the ten anniversary concert of les mis he's amazing in that

  • exacty right. he was un beleiveably great in les mis

  • holy crap. Quast is BY FAR the best Javert. HANDS DOWN! his voice is second to none in his rendition of "stars." gives me absolute chills everytime I listen to it. it just never gets old. he has the emotion in the voice so many other people lack. that concert is fantastic.

  • why does phil quast look weirdly like russell crowe here?

  • You should see Terrence Mann against Tim Curry. They look like brothers.

  • ANT!

  • EEEEEEEE! Two of my favorite singers singing one of my favorite songs!

  • Oh... it's these two men I adore the most in CSR.

Lol, so strange to see Quast with short hair nad w/out sideburns. And playing a nice guy... :)

Although he made Javert totally adorable (and desirable), he was frightening enough.

  • This is my favorite version of this song on youtube.

  • Philip Quast is amazing...But Les Mis tainted my vision. After seeing him as Javert it's weird seeing him singing this kind of song...I'm not used to him not being angry at ValJean.

  • I know!

  • Hahaha! True, really!

  • Same here... I felt like that when I listened to him as Emile de Becque in South Pacific.
