  • Does it have to be that exact flux stuff? I see you can get 985M at Radio Shack.

  • Can i send mine in, do you do that kind of repairs? Like i mean can i ship my ps3 80gb fat version to you and you repair it and send it back??

  • No offence to scoeas1982 , who has made by far the best DIY-Utube-@home video, but I find it a little offensive that in the description it says 'The correct way to fix ur PS3' etc.. As this really is further from the correct way then you think. I was looking for professional video on the issue, but it seems none exist? I guess that's because the tools required to do it properly, are waaaay more than the cost of several PS3's... Anyways enuff of my bellyaching (continued from below)

  • @AxelWiresmith No problem if you look on my chanel you will see the pro side if it i have 8 more videos that show you how i really fix ps3's its just back when these videos were made these machines were streamlined and advertised like they are now

  • @AxelWiresmith No problem if you look on my chanel you will see the pro side if it i have 8 more videos that show you how i really fix ps3's its just back when these videos were made these machines were streamlined and advertised like they are now

  • U might think I'm being a Nazi, but these tools and methods exist for a reason, Like that guy said, it sux giving ppl the bad news when they screw it up having seen a utube vid, maybe it will work a little-while, and maybe using the above method it might be a little longer, But eventually doing it in this manner will cause hair-line fractures in the chips and lots of other issues. We actually do ours with computer-control, it's that much of an issue. (cont from below)

  • @AxelWiresmith oh and i forgoto mention i reball them too not just consoles either laptops dlp tv's anything with a gpu. Like i said check out my other 8 videos im sure you will see the difference

  • I have watched all these vids, and as a professional(with 30yrs+XP in SMC rework)I have to say this is one of the better vids I have seen. That said: The flux ur using is better than normal corrosive, but still wrong.U shouldn't be using a heatgun(U shud use a re-work station with a heatpad) And a few other things... At the end of the day, ppl shouldn't bother doing this @home.With all the added expense and fumes that cuase cancer etc. Just pay a pro 80$ get it back in 24hrs with a 6month warran

  • ok i donno know whether i got blinking red light coz it only happens when i play mw3 any other game i play i can play for hours and have no problems i played black ops for hours and hours nothing happen even gta 4 but i play mw3 for like 1 hour there is a triple beep and blinking red lights please help

  • @cracker6t6 same problem for me i play fifa and black ops for hrs without any problem then why i start playing mw3 it shuts off with the triple beep and blinking red lights.

  • Dear Playstation Users: Sony® has seen all of your videos Tampering with Playstation 3 Systems to fix them. The cause of the Yellow Light is from overheating, What causes the overheating is that the Thermal Compound on the Cooling Pads are wearing off. This is caused by people continually playing Video Games and if You Playstation® Users Elevate your Playstation or Sony® Product or point a fan towards it You have a smaller chance of getting the Yellow Light

    Sincerely Sony®

  • @PlaystationSonyTM This is the gayest explanation i have ever heard. This is not a real sony channel because if it was they would not tell you anyhting about the YLOD , secondly replacing the thermal is not the only way to go. Lastly an overheating explanation is the wrong one. Is has nothing to do with overheating at all. Its the solder cracking under time because they use paste when the boards are manufactured so stop while your ahead with your fake and gay nonsense

  • umm.. im just going to send my ps3 to a place that fixes ps3

  • @s1ckosno then why would you even bother watching this?

  • THANKS i followed every step, i got my PS3 running again.

  • Comment removed

  • hi i did everything that yoou said to do but i keep getting the blinking red light. is there something else that i need to do?

  • Thanks man, works for me here in Brazil (35º C!!!) My PS3 is the MGS4 bundle.

  • is there something similar to that pen? what can i use instead of that pen? pls reply

  • my PS3 goes straight to the red blinking lights instead of green, yellow, then red. is this method going to work?

  • is this a permanent fix!? dAMMIT I WANT TO KNOW

  • Where do you get a heat gun or could something else be used as a heat gun substitute for this?

  • what about for a 60 GB model?

  • Terrified to try this, but just finished and the PS3 comes back up and works. I used it on an 80GB model, a few differences but I figured it out. Substituted a non-corrosive flux fluid pen that I found in the depths of Frys. (Sorry, I need instant gratification, no waiting for shipments). Used Arctic Silver II from who knows when and used a 2 level heat gun that I also found at Frys. We'll see how long this lasts, but for now, it's alive! Thanks!

  • FIXED, not sure for how long but I want to thank you for your time and efforts.

  • I followed this reflow method a month ago and got the RLOD/YLOD again and finally opened up the console and found that all the areas i applied flux to looks corroded or burnt. Dont know if that was the reason for the recent failure but it surely doesnt look good. I would be very carefull if you want to add flux to your reflow because i dont think it really works without making a fan mod to the console which makes these reflow methods not really a fix IMO. Just FYI for those who are interested

  • I don't have the yellow light at all but I DO have the flashing red. My PS3 will even run for like 30 seconds to a minute and then suddenly the light will flash red and then shut down.

  • UPDATE: followed this reflow method last time had the YLOD/RLOD using flux on the solders and unfortunately it only lasted me the same as before, about a month after the reflow. Purposely played for 4 hours to see how long it lasts and was fine, but when i tried playing again, just YLOD right away after hrs of rest. Dont think theres really a solution for this at this point. Guess ill reflow it every time it happens. lol :(

  • My Ps3 is 60gig model. Its Blinking and I have a game inside. How do I get the game out?

  • this is what happens to mine

  • can this same process work on an 80 gig model? im sure it would but just wanna make sure

  • Thanks m8, this was awesome fix, I tested it and managed to boot+get my skyrim disc out. Now, I'll re-assemble it and see if thats that :)

  • This is my 5th time fixing the YLOD, everything's good and stuff but now... my internet doesn't work and my bluray drive doesn't read the disc T_T any idea what might be wrong or what parts should i replace? Trying to save some money to get me a new ps3 b4 FFXIII-2 comes out >< lol

  • IF YOU WANT YOUR PS3 TO WORK FOLLOW THIS!!!!:) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!:)

  • If this guy is so smart why!!! couldn't he put all video's in one ?

  • @MrThe123beta because when i uploaded them i was a new youtube user and i could not upload anything more than 15 minutesd a video and now i can still only upoad no more than 20 minutes a video. I have it as a full avi and i tried to upload all at once so thats why

  • I follow your step for YOLD issue with PS3 and its working perfect only problem is the disc was in and now its not ejecting and not showing under video option.please help how to fix this issue.

  • Thanks to you, my PS3 LIVES AGAIN!

At least long enough for a backup anyway. We'll see.

    Thanks dude!

  • My 2007 PS3 saw the blinking light of dead 2 days ago, I watch your videos, and I fix it up.

All games, saves, demos, music, movies, were intact.

You helped me allot. I saved 190$, and all my stuff.

    Thanks from Portugal, Europe.

  • Hey! I did all the steps and it worked! But now it's a few days later and the exact same problem came back... ..do you maybe know what the problem is? It work 3/4 days fine.

  • Thanks for posting this video, I followed the instructions in this video and was able to fix my 60 gig launch PS3 that had the RLOD. Works fantastic now!

  • Thanks so much man. I thought My Ps3 was toast now its back in action. Great Video!

  • my ps3 turns off in a middle of a game beeps 3 times when it is hot

  • Ok man I have fixed my ps3 the same way you did.I started it , after 5 minutes of playing gran turismo 5, the ventilation started running very fast, sounded like a vaccuum,After waiting 30 minutes it was still running that fast and finally I turned the ps 3 off. Can you give me an explanation for this plz? thank you

  • Thanks a lot man got my 60g ps3 running again last night. Did the gilsky reflow and it lasted only a month since thansgiving this year. Trying your flux method now so hope that lasts me longer. I'll update if i have or dont have any future problems. crossing my fingers.

  • Dude, thanks so much for this. Two days before Christmas and have just managed to complete the fix. my boy can play his new games now. :)

  • If mine had the YLOD i would just ship it to you to fix it. Lot easier. XD

  • @tnunited30 i just used a hairdryer for 15 minutes, the freezers for 5 minutes and boom!!!

    works fine now!!!

  • Man I live in Oh and I can't find no clean flux fluid. Where can I find it at. What stores carry it.

  • @BigPoppaDiablo this is too complicated, just use a hairdryier and then put it in the freezer, mine work\s now!!!

    watch?v=jZWVmP4YA_4&feature=related

  • What about getting my disc out of my ps3 after getting the red light code?

  • just to let you guys know i fixed my ps3 following these video's 5 months ags and my ps3 is still running fine.

  • how long are they expected to last after doing this ?

  • Put some music in the background boring ass video but helps haha

  • There is a product in radioshack called Edge Connector it looks like the flux pen but I don't know its the right one I told them I need a flux pen but they showed me that I wondering will that work

  • Works like a charm!. Thanks man, just got done doing everything step by step and I'm up and running. The PS3 is also running a lot more quite now after cleaning it and re-applying the thermal compound. Thanks again, you saved me from buying a new PS3!

  • Dude you rock! Followed your tutorial to the tee and it has been running idle for about 20 min. now without shutting off (was able to get 10 to 20 secs before the fix). I used a no-clean rosin flux.

  • mine is doing the red blinking light, BUT my fans are spiining like crazy and pushing out loads of air untuio the ps3 shuts down. do i fix it the same way?

  • thank you- works im dont for how long but anyway thx

  • HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

  • I CANT UN CLIP IT IM AFRAID IT WILL BREAK

    :(

  • MY DISC IS STUCK IN THE DRIVE I TOOK THE COVER OFF AND CANT OPEN THE DISC DRIVE

  • @chuppychup06

-turn off the power switch at the back

    -hold the eject button

    -turn on the power switch

-you will hear a loud noise

-wait until the disc comes out

  • @GhostsLeader MINE JUST SHUT OFF WHEN I JUST TURN IT ON

  • my ps3 80g version goes green yellow then flashes red, i switch it off and then it turs on and it works fine sometimes for hours sometimes for minutes, and then it shuts off by itself and starts flashing somedays i turn it on play for a 2 or 3 hours and it doesnt turn off but the next day it will turn off right off the bat. i dont know what is causing this to happen if you know please tell me,i havent bought any new game for fear of it crapping out after is spend 60 bucks on a new game.

  • Thanks ever so much mate for sharing this video with us all . Scott ur brilliant at what u do and teach thanks again .

4 hr happy days chees am bak blad.

  • I need my shit fix man hw much wuld u charge

  • what do i do if my ps3 freezis a lot? and it is the slimer one with the light on the power button.

  • Can u fix mine

  • This week, my ps3 ran great, i bought MW3, today i came home from school, and i turn on my ps3, i go to the log in screen, and then i get the blinking light of death. Bye bye ps3, bye bye MW3 -.-

  • @Wiichamp5 same for me -_-'

  • @stefje169 To get the game out, turn off the power switch in the back, hold the eject button, while holding the eject button, turn on the power switch, the fan cycle will run, while it is running, keep tapping the eject button and the disc should come out

  • Can you list out all the things you use? its hard to hear with my speakers

  • Well it took me a few hours to do but now it works. Thanks very much for your help.

  • I heard that the red blinking light of death only happens to American PS3s, while PS3s in other countries last a lot longer, do you think companies in this country have this happen on purpose so people have to pay extra money to have their PS3s repaired? My PS3 just died from the blinking lights a few months ago, so I haven't been able to play Grand Theft Auto 4 :( but I put this video in my favorites for future help

  • im a bit confused. firstly there was no launch 40 gig. just 60 and 20. secondly the controllers work over bluetooth and not wifi. 3rdly the 40 does have wifi as standard but the 20 does not. ...thinking about it now. i think you just got the two models mixed up that you have there

  • the problem I have is flashing red light 3 beeps problem. I don't hear fan spinning when I hold down eject button and turn on the ps3 from the switch in the back. tried it a few times and can't get the disc out....any ways to fix it or ti's done? it's a fat ps3 that's 4 and half years old. re-attached the hdd and cables a few times and it still doesn't work

  • @okaythen001 defenitely fixable man if you want to hold on to and have it working for a couple more years send me a private message or call me at 512 563 6438 thanks man

  • @scoeas1982 PM me your price on fixing this, I've taken mine apart and fixed it when I has a disc drive issue but I've got a 2 year old roaming around now and no time to juggle the parts and him.

  • @okaythen001 This just happened to me too, I was able to do the fan test and my fan is working fine (hold the eject button while clicking the power switch in the back of the ps3). i took it apart and cleaned all the dust and all and reassembled but nothing.

  • What does the blue light mean it is taking the disk but it's not showing on screen.

  • FUCK I GOT MY YLOD TODAY :(

  • Your str8 up the M@n brother, Fanx for the help

  • Thank you for your helpful video. I got mine working within an hour. Only problem I have now is my controllers and remote don't seem to be connecting with the PS3. Any suggestions on what that might be? Email me MikeF508@yahoo.com and again, thank you for helping us out!

  • 'we followed your instructions and fixed the YLOD, but now the fan kicks on, on overdrive after the ps3 has been on for about 2-3 minutes. We immediately turn it off after. We think its due to the insufficient contact between the heatsink and RSX chips. But we arent entirely sure. We did your trick of bending the clamps and even putting material under the clamps for additional pressure against the board. (40GB Model) have you ran into this issue before?

  • @JonathanStrayer yes all you need to do is opo off the heat spreader and replace the thermal underneath the heat spreader for assisstance with this you can call me at 512 563 6438 and i will walk through what side to pop it of on and how to do it. If you can do it thats great if not please call me as its really easy. The reason that this happens is because the actual thermal between the ihs and the chip is dried up which kicks in into high gear asap thanks for watching hope this helps

  • @JonathanStrayer also its the gpu (rsx you want to pop the heat spreader off of but again please call me if you need help

  • @scoeas1982 Thanks for all the assistance the video poster, is probably the nicest most knowledgeable guy around. Definitely worth sending anything to him.

  • @JonathanStrayer your video worked great for me man thanks a lot. but now i cant connect to the internet and i cant put a disk in the system, how do i fix this problem?

  • @PutNWorkEnt sound like you forgot to plug in some stuff go back and make sure the bluray drive is plugged ina nd the blutooth board as well. thats the board in front of the power supply then you should be good to go

  • @scoeas1982 the blue ray drive is connected but their is this white piece stopping it from going in. how can i move that back to normal settings, its jammed or something

  • hay bro ive gota give u mass props... i got a RLOD fat40gig model from a friend that died 2 years ago on him... i did everything u said to do and watched every video twice to be sure i didnt miss something...and the fukn thing works now.. i meant to tell u thankx earlier but ive lost in jailbreaking sit for 2 weeks now.... ppl watch it all and listen carefully.... because it worked for me and i even had to use a old none setting heatgun....

  • @ MrSolidsnake02 love the name dude. @ scoeas1982 will the red lights come back eventually? *important*

  • wanna fix mine!!!

  • is this is a permanent fix for PS3 YLOD?

  • i watch your videos and did it at the same time you did an it did not work for me is there something else i can do an how manny times can you do this

  • does this process work for the 60bg as well??

  • @johnson3294 yes it does

  • to scoeas1982: i was just given a ps3 with the blinking red syndrome... how can i get it to u for fixing? and how much would u charge? help

  • @melapelas81 there is a video on my cvhannell that has all my contact info on it or you may call me at 512 563 6438 and that goes for anyone else if you need help you may call me.

  • Hey I thing i burn on of the chips, it looks like a bouble lol oes this still have a fix ???

  • i was only playing the ps3 for 10 mins and it happened, it couldnt have possibly over heated

btw ive had it a couple weeks after it came out so its pre old, would that have something to do with it breaking??

  • @GaM3ify it only takes 5 minutes for a ps3 tp get to operating temp and trust me i have seen happen sooner than 10 minutes.

  • It works lads! I'm a 1st timer doing this and it worked spot on! Thank Youtube :)

  • Thanks this is legit. Just did it today and was a fairly quick process. Better then waiting weeks.

  • Hello,

i have a qustion, I am trying to fix my ps3 but one of the square thing where you put the thermal paste its attach to the upper part, its this correct ??

  • what is the difference between the one u r fixing and the 60 gb

  • Message me about this for more info the full details of what's going on are too long to put in a comment and I don't feel like spamming a long chain of comments

  • @ person who replied to previous comment I posted: I further looked into the matter and from what I've seen so far EVERYTHING ELSE except for specifically PS3 discs works on my system all of my download games work and I just played a PS2 disc on it and it works just fine that freeze on loading screen happens specifically with just PS3 discs this problem seems pretty irregular compared to typical problems if its the laser then how is it still able to read other PS1 and PS2 discs?

  • Hi Mr Guru,

We tried to fix the PS3, we got to the part where you turn it on to see if the green light stayd on and it was fine! So happy. Then we put the rest of it together and it didnt work! :(

So wondering what else it could be? It originally stopped working while we were watching a blu-ray. Could it be the blu-ray player stopping it from working?

    Thanks,

    Fi

  • @fifimagoo common problem take it bak down to the power supply again and if stays green that means you have one of the connections plugged in wrong which will cause a yellow light that will fix it up or just unplug all the connections and replug them in and it will fire right up. the big one is the card reader the really skinny one up top thats where i get it sometimes if not try the bluray and the wifi board

  • @scoeas1982 hey i was playing with my PS3(60 gb) then after 1 hour of playing it turned itself off(no YLOD yet) i turned it back on then it turned itself off again after 5 minutes(this time it had YLOD) can you tell me what went wrong?

  • Hey you seem to know alot about fixing PS3 problems well I got another issue its not YLOD this time though what does it mean when you're XMB screen still senses you put a PS3 disc in your console and you can hit X to start it up yet once you start teh game it tends to freeze on the loading screens and it does this with any PS3 disc I put in it???

  • @StevenCodeBlack you need a new laser and we replace them for 50.00 with a 90 day warranty

  • Did all as followed and it did not work.

  • what is your ebay thing so i can buy the tools

  • Thanks dude! I'm not bothered about my PS3 being bust, I just wanna back up my savedata so this is a livesaver (Y)

  • Good look homie, work'd like a charm my first time flux'n. Much appreciated, keep doing yo thang. D Stylz, thatz me, from PHX,AZ thanx u

  • thanks so much my ps3 works now i only had to spend arround $20 and now it works thank you thank you thank you

  • Just want to give a shout out and say Thanks for this video... PS3 up and running and saved me a pocket full!! Kudos to you and your video

  • Hey thanks for the tip on how to save money and fix the ps3. So do you know why my sound isn't working now?

  • @aaronstrts did you plug in the battery

  • @scoeas1982 Yeah as far as I know everything is back the way it was. It has picture, just no sound.

  • @aaronstrts try a video reset hold down the power button till it beeps once and then beeps a second time and thats a video reset

  • @scoeas1982 Yeah as far as I know everything is back the way it was. It has picture, just no sound.

  • Thanks man.. You saved me money, I fixed my ps3 that was refurbished by Sony and not long after my fourth night of playing it broke( ylod ).. I just followed your vids and now it's running again and recoverd my game as well. Sony wouldn't honor warranty since I wasn't the owner on file when the last worked on it ( damn eBay ) people beware even with a 90 day warranty Sony won't repair you console unless your the owner of it ( person that sent it in )

  • I used your technique and then talked to a ps3 professional and he said NOT to take a heat gun to the board because youll ruin the board. My ps3 worked for two weeks after doing this and then took a dump again. You cant do it this way. You have to take the gpu's off completely.

  • @MrMcurtis08 MrMcurtis08 HI i am glad you spoke with a ps3 pro thats great. The reason i posted these videos is because i was sick and tired of people getting scammed on craiglist for 50 or 60 dollars for what you cazn do at home. Im not saying that people dont have reflow or reabll techs locally but the probalbility is really low. So i am going to make another video explaining all this and show you guys the actual machine that i use so that you dont feel upset or cheated

  • @scoeas1982 anyway u can FIX MINE?

  • my PS3 needs you Doctor. Scott!!

  • @Fight4FreedomForever send me a personal message

  • thanks scott for doing this video for every one. iam 35 yrs old and once in a will i love to play games i got l.a. noir and went to play it yesterday about a half hour later system shut down with yes the red light.... i have always fixed my owen stuff so i went to you tube and found you.. tryed your video and yes it worked i was able to play game last night. it is good to see people who care about other gamers and not just rip people off me and my kids thank you and keep up the good work.....

  • Hey broskie, Thanks a lot for doing this step by step for us! Completely FIXED MY PS3 using every instruction. I sneaked out some lead free flux from my company and forgot to have a fan in handy and breathed all the fumes lol, it was like a 10 minute coughing process but it worked out!

My usb sync didn't work after so i just opened it up and unplugged and re-plugged everything near the ports and voila son! Anyways, LOTS OF THANKS MAN! GREAT TECHNIQUE!

  • Just wanted to vouch for Scott!! My 60Gb launch version got the YLOD. I found his videos on youtube saw that he was local. I took my PS3 to him and I shit you not: he is a mad scientist with high tech reflow machines, electrical monitors all over the place all in his basement. There were like 10 PS3 that was sent in for him to fix. I think he could build a frankenstein PS3 if he had enough time. Basically took him like 20 minutes to do. My PS3 is going strong after 3 weeks. Thanks again Scott

  • @jroyster thanks J i appreciate it.HOWEVER YOU KNOW I HAVE NOT FORGOT ABOUT MY CAR that you have not returned yet though right. My sweet little bmw that i miss so much. I need it back asap. Scott

  • hey man, thanks a lot for this video, i used this to fix my 60gb ps3 but now my fan is really loud, any ideas???

  • @Clarky9 try clamping the heat syncs down better and make sure you have a good layer of themal on the heat spreaders on the board. the fan being loud is a cpu issue not a gpu like most people think

  • @scoeas1982 thanks man, ill try it tomorrow! :)

  • @scoeas1982 hey man, i tried it again, ive put more thermal compound and have clamped it down and it sounds much bettter thanks!!!
