The thing about the original that made it so great was the contrast between the upbeat, lively verse which made it sound like a happy song (if you weren't listening to the lyrics) and the suddenly downbeat "do you think she'll pull through" section (when the bass octaves cut out and the violins come in). This version isn't bad it just doesn't have the brilliance of Morrissey/Marr.

i used to be a major smiths fan and this was one of my favourites of theirs. i do like noah and the whale's style, this is such a whimsical and light-hearted version, very upbeat.

This hate always comes with covers. Original fans always feel obligated to stick with the original bands and say vehement and nasty things about the cover.

I liked this quiet a bit and now I know the Smiths don't suck, because those lyrics look pretty funny. Now I am off to check them out and probably support The Smiths. Covers can only really help unless they completely butcher the song (Flaming Lips with "Money", and I love the Lips).
