No but Civil War Kid, look up some information about Johnny Clem, he was promoted to the rank of Sgt. during the Civil War.

Johnny Clem was a member of a Michigan Regiment during the battle of Shiloh. During the battle, an artillery shell smashed his drum out of his hands but left him unscathed, for this, he became famous as "Johnny Shiloh"

One year later at the battle of Chickamauga, he carried a shortened rifle as well as his drum, when asked to surrender by a Confederate colonel, he shot the colonel and took him prisoner, that's how he was promoted to Sergeant.

Actually, the film shows that Johnny never participated in the battle at Shiloh. HIs stories of that battle are part of the legend, where this film deals with the facts about Johnny Clem's life.
