i have been looking for this little character for years, i could not remember the name of the cartoon - i loved this program, brings back simple sweet memories - thankyou
It is true that 24-hour cartoon channels should manage to offer to the viewers everything (or almost) that has been made in the past, including the less popular and forgotten ones. Sometimes, an average cartoon can be more fun when you watch it for the first time, than a masterpiece you've been seeing countless of times in your life!
i remember this one... even though i last saw it in 1960something in black and white! thanks for preserving it. astronut is one of those things that you think you remember from childhood but has vanished so completely you wonder if you're making it up...
I wondered if I'd dreamt this ever existed too - so glad I've found it. I remember it well but couldn't remember the title of the cartoon - I probably watched it in the early 70s
Phil Scheib was technically the musical director for post-1960 Terrytoons, but Jim Timmens provided most of the musical scores after Scheib retired (he got co-credit at the end of the syndicated "ASTRONUT SHOW").
Glad you mentioned that. It rang a bell and sure enough I have ONE Luno cartoon! I recorded it from probably TBS quite a few years ago when our generation still counted. I'll post it as soon as I can.
I do remember Luno, it was a Terrytoons carton from the 60's! In fact, my older sister and cousins used to watch it in Spanish back in Nicaragua! However, most people haven't even heard of it _or any other Terrytoons for that matter_ or simply don't remember. So, the only people who might probably remember Luno are those born between the late 50's or late 60's.
Dayton Allen was the voice of "Astronut" and "Oscar" (and just about everyone else) in this early 1964 entry. Jim Timmens wrote the percussive music score.
speaking of dayton allen, do you know who did the score for deputy dawg? was it phil scheib? i know you posted this comment sometime ago, but i thought i'd take a shot.
Hmm...Dayton Allen was Depouty Dawg, too..but I kinda thought Bob McFadden (Terry and B.Weiss's's next go to guy) did the voice of Oscar (using the voice of Lovable Truly from Ed Graham Productions's Linus series).
I have tapes of these somewhere in my house along with Hector Heathcoat. I gotta find them again.

say what you will about this Terrytoon product. The music is so cool and bizarre and I love the whole feel of the space nut Astronut

Oh yes, Tom Morrison {Terrytoons' story editor and the voice of Mighty Mouse) was the voice of the newscaster at 2:50....

Anybody remember a cartoon named "Luno" about a little winged white toy horse that transforms onto a real one by the wish of a child?

Holy sweet merciful CRAP. An "Oscar and Astro" cartoon!!
I understand Turner has taken these things out of circulation forever, and I'm sure youtube will cooperate.
But damn..it's GREAT to see this stuff again. Has to be more than 30 years since I've seen this stuff.

These are 16mm prints I've acquired from one place or another. I wish the distributors and cable networks would stop hiding them!
