  • you need to know what you're playing dude,

  • pattern plzzzzzzzzz

  • whats the strumming pattern ?

  • yeah, BDDDDD pretty much rocks anyway..

  • this is great. Thanks I need this for playing it on electric because the guitar solo is in standard tuning.

  • you can play that in d em g bm a and g

  • Yeah...good cover, but like frnK0ZZ said, this isn't Iris, it's 'You and Me' by Lifehouse.

  • @captainwhiteshadow I cover You and Me a good bit as well, and if this is how you play that song, you're definitely not playing it right. Here I'm playing G Asus C : Em D C (loosely naming them). You and Me starts out G C D/F# G : Em D C.

I suppose you could play the same chords and it wouldn't sound terrible, but they're definitely different. Whatever works for you man :)

  • @domorovich yeah this is definnitely not You and me haha xD think people should listen more to that song then to hear the different xD

  • Whatever happened to the googoo dolls? Last time I saw them they were on Leno 4 or 5 years ago and the YoYo bassist was playing the egg shaker with his legs crossed on an Indian rug sporting the goofiest smile Ive ever saw.

  • ill go to the other video if u shave ur sideburns

  • put the link of the other video please.

  • Could you post the chords somewhere? The variations you use aren't ones I know. I'm not sure if others do, but I would be interested in knowing.

  • @TheiFiles check out the remake I made of this. its clearer and I go on a bit more depth. I've also typed out the chords

  • even its logg.. I though wat ur doing.. thnx a lot 5***** star (i'm proud 2 be PINOY!)

  • Good job. You DID forget half of the song though, and your singing needs a lot of practice. Keep at it and you'll be doing good.

  • awesome man, I was able to do it the first time becuase of you. I was wandering if that is all the chords to the song? seem slike its missing somehting, if you know them can you tell me thhe chords please?

  • I just want to say I don't care how the normal version goes this was fantastic, good playing and goos singing, I will have to watch it a few times to pick up the chords but that was good.

  • nice dude......

  • Good effort, but work on your singing. You are trying to hard to sing it too high, sing from your diaphragm and you will notice the results. Also, try putting a capo on and bringing the key down. Keep at it : )

  • A) It's not 'you and me' by lifehouse. It sounds similar, but so does most modern music, cf. "36 songs,4 chords" i.e. CGAF or the I, V, Vi, iV progression.

    B) You don't need a tab, he just gave you the chords.

    C) Want the strumming pattern? Listen to the song and work it out, it will make you a better guitarist, and it's not hard.

    D) The author already said in his info that it's not the standard tuning. Learn how to read people.

Feel free to put this in your info box if you want : )

  • @Godonstilts bout time someone said it!

  • thanks helped out alot

  • DUDE CAN YOU post a tab? pls give me the tab

  • @darkgildz06 yeah man a tab would be awesome

  • jajajajajajajaja

  • whts the strum pattern??

  • Ok, this is a very good video. Your chords , on standart tuning, do sound good. And a man can sing properly to this sound pattern.

    Very good. thx.

  • ok yeah, to all the nay sayers out there, it's not perfect, but can you play anything else in the proper tuning for the song? he has the right chord progression, it's just in a different key, the only thing i see wrong is that it switches up the progression more. "give up forever to touch you" ~G A C "cuz i know that you feel me somehow" ~E D G. play it like this, and you've got the basic chord progression for the song, in the key of G instead of D, not perfect, but you can sing to it. :P

  • Not the same chords at all...

  • great job!!!you made it your own..

  • It sounds like you just made up chords. You can switch those and it sounds just as good.

Gotta tune the guitar to do it or it doesn't sound like the song at all.

  • hey this song is ' you and me ' by lifehouse... you must change the chords =/

  • lol wth i didnt know it could sound like that in standard? 0_0 but then it still sounds slightly better tuned to the correct tuning

  • succinct and very very helpfull. Cheers

  • I prefer to play it in the standard tune thanks dude :D

  • Thanks man!

  • ehh.....no.

  • wow that was pretty gud. omg like dddddb now way haha. You couldve provided a lil more on the strumming pattern. I got no idea how to strum by lookin at others, cuz im noob :)

  • its just D Du

  • i ment the other vids are dddddb lol

  • dddddb is the tuning not the strumming

  • i know dude... I knew all along --.-- I meant this one is better as the other vids' tunings make the strings all weird and its kidna hard to tune, for a noobie like me.

  • oh lol right on keep it up you'll be awesome soon enough

  • cut those patches, you look like bad, cut them off, that way youl get normal and then u can sing along, sounds better.

    hey great vid.

  • Very nice!! TY!

  • Nice man ;) thx ! :)

  • thanks for posting this up:D

  • thank you so much:D grate vid^^

  • Thank you very much :). i subscribed xD

  • thanks bro, great video

  • mate can you tell us the strum pattren its very good mate keep it up.

  • thanks man

  • ummm thats a C add9 not a c.....

  • That helps a lot, thanks.

  • I made my own version of IRIS in standard!! (watch it, if you want)

  • I just saw it and it's pretty dang good man. Def more like the CD version. You should make it more like a tutorial for some of the people here who aren't great at seeing what your hand is doing. Yours is more accurate and better for more advanced players, and mine is just a super easy version that sounds good enough. Between the two of us I think we got this song taken care of for youtube ;)

  • thats actually a c9.

  • The way you're playing it is in the wrong key than the song itself. I play a sort of simplified version on my page, however it goes with the actual recording. Give it a listen.

  • That's why God invented capos.

  • Sure it is, and I'm very aware that it's in a different key. I (and about 95% of people) can't hit the notes to sing along in D. G is a good key for a wide vocal range. Your version sounds good though. My video was just intended for super beginners. I have covers of me playing it originally, etc, but some people just want an easy 3 chord way to play a song everyone knows. It's all good man.

  • love the guitar got the same exact one myself

  • Thanks 100 times :D

  • nice playing...the singing is....yaaahhhhh

  • Ha yeah, def not trying to go anywhere with my voice. Thanks for honesty though :P

  • thanks, but I guess there should be a "a minor suspended" not a "a suspended", sounds better - agree?!

  • I have to complete: by the way it even sounds good, if you change the last c in the first part to d:

    g / a- sus / c / d /

    g / a- sus / c / d /

    g / a- sus / c / d /

    e / d / c / c /

or just at the 3rd repeat of the first part, but that just by the way, if someone joins my favor

  • ok, sorry for posting that much _o.0_ ! but I've seen your other video. the ringfinger explains the bad sound with asus ;) cause without it would sound right with an a minor sus .. ok, I should have heard it, sry was my bad, I usually know this "filling up with the high d" - thing like my pillow, it's like on wonderwall for example

  • dddddb sounds better, but this beats the hastle of tuning. thanks

  • i like your singing. awesome for amateur people :]

  • very good...thanks

  • this is string killer song

  • Thats pretty good but the version thats tuned

    d

    d

    d

    d

    d

    b

sounds a lot better and its not that much harder to play so i would stick to it

  • Yeah, but who the fuck wants to tune their guitar like that?

  • well yea...but isn't John's guitar only 5 strings tuned to BDDDD?

  • no i think its 6

  • that is why the title of the video is how to play it in standard tuning...c'mon !

  • It is 6 tuned to BDDDDD. If you want to see that version, look in my vids for the ones that just say Iris.

  • its down, up down up down

  • this is good

  • haha buddy,ya got a ways to go,u forgot half the song,u only played the four chords in the verse and chorus

  • The point of this cover wasn't to play the CD version, it was to give you a super simple and easy to remember way to just pick up a guitar and play a song everyone knows. Nobody's gonna notice you didn't play the instrumental or intro... For that stuff go look at my other covers of the song in the real tuning.

  • pretty kwl vid

    YOU LOOK LIKE SNAPE X)

  • you have my nose hahaha lol.

    great cover

  • you're getting it a lil wrong my friend.

You can't be too repetitive on your chords througout.

    G, Am, C. then, Em, D , C. and so on. here's your G Am C X2. no no...

  • That just sounds even more repetitive to me, but if you prefer it played that way, go for it. It's all about what sounds good to you man.

  • that version don´t sound well g am c . ,. .

  • bc its Cad9

  • "mate your voice is actually so good, but just a bit pitchy, get some lessons and dude you could have a life in music"

totally agree... Pitchy maybe coz he played it in G chord... cld actually try lower chords? ;)

  • hey can u plz post the strumming pattern..or message it to me =] thx n ur good!

  • down down up down

thats how i play it anyway...

  • mate your voice is actually so good, but just a bit pitchy, get some lessons and dude you could have a life in music

  • i cant find these chords they all have like Bb chord in it... and i want THESE chords! Can u message them to me?! thanks mucho! =)

  • dude..he explains the chords in the beginning, plus they pretty simple to see

  • Beutiful job! What make is that guitar?

  • Thanks a lot for posting, I'm teaching a mate guitar and she really wanted to learn thid bout found it too hard til I found your vid. Any idea about the intro though?

  • do you know that if you took vocal lessons, ou could sooooooo be famous

i mean you have a great voice.

it just need a little trainging

  • And you need to take a little english trainGing.

  • btw, looks like you have a nice house... hahah

  • YOU ARE THE MAN! lol thanks alot, a few weeks ago i found this same video on a guitar site and then i favorited it, but my dad took the laptop to VA so i couldnt find it on my desktop but then i looked it up on youtube and found the same one here. lol

  • dude thanks a lot man !..

  • helped a lot thank you

    :D

  • Thanx dude...

  • awesome thanks so much!

  • Hi domorovitch...Thanx for the lesson...one of my fav songs. Im glad you taught standard tuning...right now i only have one guitar and i hate when i have to tune to diff. tunings for one song...:P so this did help. I noticed a lot of mean comments....and i don't understand why...sounds a lot like the song and your singing is nice...I guess everyone wants american idol performances all the time. thanx again:)

  • Shut the hell up, Domorovich made this song a LOT easier than it normally would be. So stop with your rude comments, and get back to playing, and I bet that you play Iris the way that Domorovich showed in the video, Asshole. Great vid! Thanks a lot!

  • why dont YOU post a fucking vid and we`ll see if you can make it better

    dumbfuck

  • sweet thanks man:D maybe work on ur singing just a little bit lol. other than that you are awesome

  • tabs for this?

  • wat u smoking tht is a great version

  • dude you rock!

  • bad ass bro, i usully play with standard tunning, i always find easier ways to play by listening to the music and then play it out, you should do one for watching airplanes by gary allen, i want to play it for my wife thanks homie

  • Ouch. While it does resemble the song, the key is way far off. There is a reasonable double drop D (1st and 6th) version that is much closer if you don't want to break a string getting the real tuning for this.

  • 1. There's a newer better take of this video up. Over 23K views. Check it out.

    2. If you want to do it in another tuning, go for it. This is for people who want to do it in the tuning they're always in. Nobody's forcing anyone to play it like this.

    3. I play it in G because that's the key a guitar in standard sounds best in IMO. If you want to play it in D, just transpose what I say.

  • this helped alot =]

    thanks

  • dude! chill out this i obiviosly aim at people who dont know other types of tuning

  • don't hurt urself too much, luftwig

  • that is a good way to play it w/out the crazy tuning

    thanx

  • why would you come to a guitar lesson video to cuss a person out for their looks? Are you crazy or something?

  • haha, sadly, i think he is crazy

    shawkat88, shut up

  • it is fantastic, what about the intro?

  • thats very wrong

  • thanks this is what i needed.

  • thank u!!!!!!!!!

  • thats realy good actually:D

  • THANKS

  • THANKS! this is what i wanted d:

  • Yours was nice, but i like this better =)

    Verse: D Em G Bm A G x2

    Chorus: Bm A G x4

  • i like these chords better myself to, i have it up on mine if you wanna take a look at it

  • awesome!! Thanks so much, this is exactly what I needed!

  • great video!:p

and i have the exact same guitar as you:D

  • thanks man, You have a really good voice btw. :)

  • It definitely doesn't sound bad, the only thing is that you're playing in G. The song is in D.

Well, if it suits your voice, stick with it.

  • Pay attention dipshit the video is to show people how to play in regular tuning. Plus you can play a song in a different key. Depends on your voice. I'm so sick of people telling everyone what key a song should be played in. Play it however you want. Fuckhead.

  • Ouch ='(

Hey, I didn't mean any offense towards the OP or anything; he just didn't mention anything about the key. I have no problem playing stuff in different keys (I do it all the time). I'm just pointing out to some people that it's going to clash if you try playing it along with the original track. You can still play this song in D on standard tuning as well.

  • Ummmm, the title of the video states that it's in standard tuning. He said at the beginning of the clip that it's in standard tuning.

How did you miss that exactly?

  • Keys and tunings are two completely different things. The song is in the key of D. He is playing in the key of G.

  • lol

  • a nice one...=)

  • I'm really sorry to say this, but this isn't the right tabs...but it doesn't sound that bad though.

  • ur right;/ it sounds bad, but u mean chords?

  • same thing

  • pay attention to the video, this is in standard tuning and it is right. It's originally played tuned BDDDDD, so stop you're whining and learn it the real way if you have a complaint.

  • can someone pls post the tabs for the chords

  • These chords start from Low E

    G- 320033

    A(suspended)- 002233

    C- 023033

    Play this 3x

    Then..

    E(minor)- 022033

Dsus- 000233 or D-000323 I play the Dsus

    Then C- 023033

1x Then back to the beginning...very simple song!! Hope this helps!!

  • Nah.. grow them bigger! And don't stop until you would make John Belushi or Chuck Berry jealous!

  • shut up asshole the video isnt about his sideburns, and i doubt he'd take the advice of an asswipe like you.

  • Good...so good... i started guitar about 1 week and your "how to" is easy... Thanks a lot, i hope you'll still go on!

  • nice job.

  • Thanks! :D

  • heyy all -

    thought u might wanna know....

i use capo 7th fret - goes with music

  • very helpful!

    much respect.

  • easy thanks a lot xD

  • Very good i like it

  • yer you really need to go through all of it proply i was taught the g was without the xtra string and the C was different to and a strumming pattern would have been great too you should really just maek like a how to play iris part 2 and go through it all its just to hard to figure out the pattern with your hands looking like there something of the matrix PLZ MAKE A SECOND VIDEO!

  • Agreed

  • good job only thing missin was the strumming pattern

  • thanx!it really helped...

  • Personally I think Iris sounds like hell in standard tuning. Those whole point of the BDDDDD tuning is to create a droning sound which Iris is so famous for. But layoff the guy that posted the video.

    1) Iris is a very difficult song to sing. Requires a huge vocal range.

    2) He did explain what chords he used. If you don't know what the chords are, look them up.

    3) Don't be so lazy and figure out the strumming pattern yourself, just listen to the song its not that difficult.

  • can u please tell me the strumming pattern for this?? i just cant do it..

  • was the second chord a Asus4 002230 ?
