I work at Meridian Energy and was involved in producing these ads. I can confirm the music is an original piece by an Auckland composer (although is similar to Forrest Gump's theme).
I'm sorry but I won't give out his name because the poor guy gets inundated with requests for the music when he can't do anything about it due to copyright limitations. I will say that he composes lots of beautiful tunes for ads and movies. Unfortunately the music isn't available for use outside of Meridian Energy.
