This is so helpful... I want to shorten a zipper that is already sewn into a garment... it is a halter top jumper that I want to make strapless and it zips all the way up so this technique will be very helpful!

I've come to the end of my rope because I'm in need of a 12" silver bottom separating zipper, which I've deduced is just about impossible to find after exhaustive searching, so I've finally decided I'll need to shorten a longer zipper to the proper length. I just need the teeth-pulling plier...thingies...in this video and I'll be ready to try this out!
QUESTION: how can you replace the separating mechanism on a separating plastic zipper?
