Very nice indeed. Some might say that Alonso's title of assoluta is devalued as it is from Castro. After seeing her dance, she certainly rates the title along with Ulanova, Plisetskaya and Fonteyn. These four ladies are legends, and it is doubtful we will see their like again. Alicia Alonso is a true Prima Ballerina Assoluta.

Now I have seen the originals finally, not just photos, Thank You So Much! Where is the respect for our heritage I must ask the few commentators below. Were they never told about this before?

She is one of the greatest ballerinas in history, a living legend...That's all that matters for the whole world and we thank her for her greatness... Save your anger and frustration for the politicians and discuss it with the Cubans that have lived in the island for the last 50 years.
This is a technically very difficult ballet. Four great ballerinas, but Miss Alonso was the Number 1, just look at those feet. So much virtuosism! And Miss Slavenska, the oldest of them all, a couple of years older than Alonso, what a style and jump! A real gem to have this moment preserve in film. Thank you for sharing this beauty.
Thanks for posting this! My teacher was a student of Mia Slavenska and he talks about her all the time. Funny note about her-she liked to garden in the nude.
Your teacher was very lucky for having Miss Slavenska as a teacher. She was magnificent. My family saw her in the 1940'2 and 59's and she was amazing. One of the greatest ballerinas of all time, like Pavlova, Spessitzeva, Danilova, Alonso.

Mme Alonso is always in style at the moment of impersonating Mme Taglioni; I have
seen other Taglioni, but never as Alonso is.... Mme Slavenska so charming and fresh
as Mlle Cerrito..... Miss Melissa Hayden in the role of Mlle Grissi so "coquette" and
so "a l'aise" in her evolutions and last but not least Mrs. Nora Kaye in the role of
Mme Grahn so beautifully rendered an so elegant!!!!

might not be black and white, quite often they were filmed in color and broadcast in black and white, so this might be from the original film.
