Very nice, but I prefer the simplicity of the duo between violin and piano; much more personal and intense. Lendvay is too halting for my taste. It lacks the natural flow and mania of Christian Ferras and Guy Bourassa who walk that fine line between reckless abandon and high musicianship with perfection and ease. There is a lack of continuity of the musical intention here that is so brilliant with Ferras interpretation. Lendvay plays discrete parts: Ferras one intense organic whole.
Oh yeah, that makes PERFECT sense. Vengerov plays gypsy music better than an actual gypsy. Lendvay's performance of tzigane is by far superior to Vengerov's performance. Lendvay truly understands this music.
Joseph Lendvay in a completely normal violin player, he plays this in a classical manner like vengerov and many other players. You can't say that he's far superior to Vengerov just because you like the interpretation more.
I say it because he was born and raised a gypsy, perhaps you didn't notice this. And he's not "completely normal", he's obviously extremely skilled and a great musician.
being born and raised gypsy doesn't mean much, besides his family isn't from the "stereotypical" gypsy type family as portrayed in movies.... that said, Joseph is phenomenal!!!
I think the way you're born and raised has a lot to do with your music making. Listen to Shostakovich, who was born and raised in the USSR under Stalin's iron fist versus Stravinsky, a composer of the same nationality and time period who was raised in America. HUGE difference.
oh for sure, that's not what i meant, i'm saying just because he's gypsy doesn't mean he's great... but of course he *is* great.... the environment plays a huge role
Hm.... It was a nice, but rather generic a tempo rendition of the piece. His technique and intonation are superb, but it lacks the fire of so many other interpretations I've heard from both professionals and students.

"natural flow" - in gypsy music? What a rubbish!
Listen, this is straggle of the soul ! Listen to the father of Gypsy Kings - Jose' Reyes !!!

The recording sounds muffled. Too bad, the sound he creates seems to effortless. My favorite Tzigane thus far.

@AbsoluteZ3R0 Stravinsky was raised in Russia, then immigrated to Paris, then moved to America. Check the facts first before saying something.

the violinist didn't make me "feel" anything. i think that's more bc of the audio and not the musician. still, isn't the best i've seen/heard.
lesson: don't trust eastern european tv, haha...
