Incidentally, "proper" is an adjective, "properly" is an adverb (which is what you meant). And incidentally, you're correct, in a way, that "civilization" is the way to spell the word as it was the old spelling. However, the spelling with an "s" rather than a "z" is the more common usage everywhere except the USA where the "z" is the accepted use.

As for the USA joining either World War, it's generally accepted by everyone outside the USA that they didn't get involved in either conflict until they realised that the whole of Western civilisation was threatened., particularly the USA.
