That is just an infection waiting to happen. I am trained in ear piercing. You shouldn't use ice it may be a little number but its harder for the needle to get through. You need sterilized earrings. Needles should only be used for cartilage piercings, guns are best to be used for lobe piercing.

Hollow needles will remove skin to make room for the jewelry, and therefore, cause less trauma. Besides, piercing guns were designed for cattle. Needles are designed for use on humans. Now which do you think is a better option? Besides, piercing guns can't be properly sterilized, and are multi use, whereas needles can be sterilized, and are only used on the one person.

The first piercing guns were used for cattle...but they make specially designed guns made for ears now. Soooo on your ear lobes which your 3rd hole is still considered you should use a piercing gun.

A needle such as this is extremely sharp, so you don't need nearly the force you would using a gun. Guns force a blunt object through your ear. Obviously, if it takes more pressure to force the jewelry in with a gun, than to put a needle through, than the gun is more traumatizing.

An ear lobe piercing is considered a minor surgical procedure. Therefore, tools like needles, which are a lot closer to a proper surgical tool than a gun, make a lot more sense. Basically, its like comparing making an incision for a surgery with a scalpel, vs a steak knife.

They make earrings specially for piercing with the sharper ends so you are not forcing a blunt object through your ear. That would be dumb. And you need to use the piercing earrings with the closed backing so it is not pushed up to far against the ear so it does have room to breathe and doesn't stab your neck when you sleep. Piercings do need to breathe to heal, your right.
