  • my god , nice !

  • I've been thinking about putting a Super Distortion in the bridge of my MIJ Tokai Love Rock Custom and your video has just made my mind up for me.

  • Comment removed

  • Everybody's playing blues- I need to hear some chords to hear how the SD pups chugs. Everybody wants to play lead.

  • Maybe cuz it has dimarzio pickups

  • Tokai Les Paul sounds a little bit better that GIbson Les Paul. Sad but true :)

  • how is the DP100 compare to the Duncan Sh-4 and Sh-5? thanks

  • awesome sound so the DP100 is on the bridge whats a good combo for the neck pup? thanks

  • @Sgalaga I like a Gibson 490R in the neck position with the DP100 or you could try a Burstbucker #2 or a #3. I used a #3, I bought for bridge use and going spare, as a neck pup, with a DP100 in bridge, for quite some time with great results.

  • hey, if its good enough for Ace Frehley, its good enough for me

  • nice playing.

one idea. dimarzio super distortion at bridge and dimarzio crunch lab at neck are good idea on the guitar for shredding?

  • who cares about the guitar this guy rips!!!

  • is there a difference in tone and response between the modern super distortion and the one from the 70's? Which one do you like better?

  • @supro48 the modern version probably sounds more consistent across the strings due to it being the F spaced version. My 70's version is not F spaced. No real discernable difference otherwise.

  • alright quick question and probably a stupid one im planing on making a 7 string and they make pickups like these for 7 string models here coms my stupid question do the pickups create the distortion sound cause thats what reading about them said to me i so im def. buying them

  • @karrodeadd The pickup itself does not make the distortion as such. Through a clean amp it will sound clean (although louder than an average pickup). It has a higher output which makes it easier for the pickup to distort a valve/tube amplifier without using pedals.

  • Such an amazing sound... and you didn't even use an amp!!!

  • @theultimatexperience

recent moddeling technology/software like amplitube or POD, guitar rig have rendered amps obsolete for home recording use, and probaly will sneak in the live scene very soon:)

  • The sound I've wanted for years!!!! Fuck I need that DiMarzio!

  • Not gonna lie man, you're pretty damn good

  • Só consegue executar as escalas?

  • do you think this pickup would go with dimarzio evolution2??

  • Why don't they strike a deal with DiMarzio and just scrap a good deal of the Gibson Pick ups?

  • are you using overdrive or dist?

    the pickup has sustain?

  • How much did that guitar cost? I've seen a few of these but never tried one.

  • @mikamee14 in 2008 it was £569 new they seem to be around £799 now I think not checked too recently

  • @ermonski dude, the combination you talk about sounds fail. Super distortion in basswood won't give you a great tone. Same with paf pro. They are better for mahogany ones. For ibanez rg series, especially maple fingerboard, go for tone zone, breed or evo2 for bridge and air classic or air norton on neck. Or dimebucker/sh5 on bridge and jazz sh2/59 on neck from Seymour Duncan. On a les Paul or ibanez iceman, super distortion and air classic with coil tap would have perfect tone.

  • how does this pickup sound if wired parallel?

  • @ermonski I haven't actually tried parallel wiring the coils on this pickup. I imagine it would sound like a very hot Texas strat!

  • @Mattukgtr how about coil taps? I'm planning to have this for the bridge and a PAF Pro in the neck for my H-H config Ibanez RG with a 5-way switch :D.

btw I forgot to say your LP sounds killer!

  • i could kill for this tone :Q_______

  • so what would be a good partner for this pickup? as in what should i put on the neck position, i like the super distortion and i want a neck pickup to go with it that can have a good clean and take a little lighter distortion without sounding uninspiring, thank you for the video!

  • i luv your music, u r a great player!!

  • One lovely Les Paul youve got their , there fitted to be a 1959 , you porberly already know this , i swapped mine for a Fender U.S.A Telecaster , i wish i had my tokai back Now!

  • is that the Super Distortion 1? and what the different between the 1 2 aned 3?? i cant find any videos at all

  • @GuitarGod94XxXx It's the DiMarzio Super Distortion DP100F there is no 1, 2 and 3 are you thinking of the Gibson Burstbuckers ?

  • @Mattukgtr nope. I went on the website and they have Super Distortion 1, Super Distortion 2, and Super Distortion 3. Check their website.

  • @GuitarGod94XxXx - yes just checked on the website it's actually 'Super Distortion', 'Super 2' and 'Super 3'. Sorry still can't answer your question regarding these as I've not used them!

  • @GuitarGod94XxXx There are dp3,dp2 and 1

  • @Mattukgtr i think he meens the super 2 and super 3 wich actually are modified super distorsions!

  • @Mattukgtr I think he's referring to the Dimarzio Super 2 and Super 3. So, I guess, in a sense, this is the Super 1. The Super 2 is a Super Distortion for the neck position, and the Super 3 is like a SD on steroids.

  • @Mattukgtr i think he means super distortion, super 2 and super 3

  • @GuitarGod94XxXx In this vid, he's using Super distortion. Dimarzio makes super 2 and super 3, which are based on Sup D, but are not called super distortion. Just like with evolution and EVO2 pickups. Try to search Super 2 and Super3 here. there are some vids with em. Good luck!

  • @FrostlordTheWizard ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh well thanks!! I think I'm going to get the Super distortion. It sound sooo amazing and it's pretty cheap. I mean 70-80 buck is a good deal! cheer!

  • @GuitarGod94XxXx Yeah, its great pickup. I've been using Dimarzio pickups all my life (not to mention that i've tried all kinds of lawrences, emgs and Duncans) and its one of the best pickups i've ever used. When i got it i stopped wondering why its around for 40 years and still is one of the most desired pickups for new guitar players. Really rich sounding pickup, great harmonics and amazing clarity even with high gain.

I bet you'll enjoy it! Cheers!

  • Sounds like slash's licks

  • i have a Kramer pacer classic that has floyd rose trem, should i buy F-spaced or regular?

  • @store1992 you can check on the DiMarzio website but I'd say you probably need F-spaced for the wider string spacing.

  • you guy just made me buy this pickup at this moment :p great playing :)

  • Hey man, not interested in teaching scales? I´d take classes with you bro, you rock I love that style :)

  • the pickup sucks but i loooooove your playing style man!

  • From the start to the end. This guy makes me want this thing so bad.

  • er ist schnell...

  • Now thats how a les paul should sound

  • Man that sounded sweet, I've never played anything buy Seymour Duncan's and recently Lindy Fralin. But this sounds right up my alley.

  • Great tone.

  • I've read a few reviews on this pickup and several people say that it might not be good for modern metal. Do you think that's true?

  • How do you think this pickup will do in an all mahogany guitar with rosewood fingerboard? I'm trying to get a thick, rich/fat sound out of my guitar, but my main problem is the sound I'm getting., which is to dark, almost covered up -sounding on the bridge. Do you think this pickup will boost my guitar sound, or darken it? My guitar is a Schecter C-1 Plus.

  • @guitarist779 If its not too late - in my mahogany Ibanez S series it sounds amazing. If you don't like it, switch to evolution. those 2 are the best pickups in mahogany in the bridge position so far. at least for my taste.

  • @guitarist779 To my experience, all-mahogany guitars sound dark. That's why most Les Paul's have a maple top, to give it that extra brightness. And if it has a rosewood fingerboard, it will sound darker than a maple fingerboard. That's not to say a brighter pickup will not make it any brighter, but naturally, you're gonna get a dark sound out of a guitar like that.

  • Nice man!

    Great tone and guitar playing!

  • Which do you prefer- Dimarzio Super Distortion or the SD SH-5 custom? It's a really tough choice, i'm in the market and it's been a pain trying to choose.

  • @FKNhostile187 The DiMarzio has a bit more grunt when you dig in the SH5 has a more vintage like tone with almost as much power. Both great for classic rock but if you're leaning towards metal and shredding then go for the DiMarzio.

  • @Mattukgtr Thanks for the response. I think i'm going to stick with the Sh-5. Your video made that decision, appreciate you posting them.

  • is the bridge position down? someone told me it was up

  • The........ TONE!

    C:

  • I have a question when you buy pickups do they have to be the same brand, or can they be different. For instance say I wanted seymour duncan pearly gates in the neck position and the dimarzio super distortion in the bridge. Would that be okay?

  • @pantera2004hellbound you can mix and match makes and types of pickups where the pickups are not active like the EMG models. Passive pickups such as these, no problem !

  • damn his fucking awesome playing took my attention off the pickup. 11/10

  • Very well recorded and epic tone!!

Its good to know that this type of guitar style is still alive in some of us :)

  • holy motherfucker that sounds awesome!

  • Just bought these and I'm glad I did after watching this. I just need the skills now

  • Randy Rhoads hads these in his polka dot flying v but his were cream

  • Sounds great, nice demo.

  • :Q______

  • Woow! I just love your playing, hey I have an epi les paul standard, I was thinking on putting a dimarzio super distorion on the bridge cause I like these kind of bluesy sound, but I'm no sure if this pickup can do metal, I like playing metal too. Is it possible combining a dimarzio super distortion the bridge and an EMG on the neck? If so, do you think that'd be a good idea?

  • @ronaranjo Trust me man, the Super Distortion can do metal. :) It's the pick up both guys in Iron Maiden used all through the 80's (one of 'em still uses it exclusively), Max Cavalera from Sepultura and Soulfly has used it and so has Randy Rhoads. It'll be fine. :)

  • @Sjusovaren not to be a nitpicker but i believe max cavalera uses a duncan disotortion.

  • @kempobrad Maybe he does, I'm not sure. DiMarzio lists him as a user of the Super Distortion but of course they could be off.

  • @Sjusovaren perhaps he used to, you know how fickle musicians can be lol...at any rate his signature model ESP's have duncan distortions in them. either way your point is valid though.

  • @ronaranjo

No, you can't combined passive and active pickups. If you get the Dimarzios then you have to combine it with a passive pickup. If you get the EMGs then you need to get another active pickup. I strongly suggest you get the super distortion. It might be the best all around pickup ever. It can satisfy the needs of just about any guitarist.

  • does anyone know what the difference betweeen the DiMarzio DP100 and DP100F is?

  • @store1992 the F version has wider string spacing. Usually you need an F spaced model for a Les Paul however string spacing has differed over the years even on Gib Les Pauls so you need to check whether F is the one you need. There is some blurb on the DiMarzio website about this I think. Seymour Duncan have their Trembucker as they call it which is wider spaced though it is wider than DiMarzio's F spaced pups.

  • @Mattukgtr No, you've never needed F-spaced pickups on any Gibson guitar.........ever. F-Spaced is just a short hand way of saying Fender or Floyd Rose string spacing.

  • @pangborn25 Please check your facts. Both the SeymourDuncan website and DiMarzio's recomend The Trembucker and the F spaced, respectively) for the Les Paul if the dimension criteria are met. Gibson adopted the same as Fender spacing at some point so some models need the wider pups. not to say that the narrower pickups won't work.

  • @Mattukgtr Dimarzio : Support : FAQ : F-Spacing : "Why are there two different spacings?"

  • @pangborn25 im not sure but the F-Spacing mean that this PU fits in a guitar with floyd rose.

  • @store1992 simple way to put it in most cases, F for Floyd Rose, no F for other bridge types

  • @store1992 The F stands for Floyd as in Floyd Rose string spacing (51 mm/2.01 inches measured from center to center of the e-string polepieces). As the FR was originally designed for Fender-style guitars a lot of people assume it stands for Fender. Use F-spaced for trem equipped guitars, Epiphones, & other Gibson clones that have F-spaced strings. Standard spacing (48 mm/1.90 inches) is the old standard used in most factory Gibsons & some others. Measure your string spacing & pick thusly.

  • Nice solo dude!

  • The first part sounded almost early Clash, and then it sounded like Since Ive Been Loving You 1973 by Zeppelin.

  • @PBANDSNOW Ha! well I don't hear either of those ! Have you commented the wrong video ?

  • @Mattukgtr Nope. Maybe not so much early Clash, that was just for a few seconds. But the SIBLY from Madison Square Garden in 73, it sounds totally similar.

  • @PBANDSNOW well I can forgive you the SIBLY as it's one of my favourite tracks and Pagey has always been a major influence so I've probably absorbed something of it. As for the Clash I've never listened and would almost certainly would have turned it off !! It's interesting what people can spot in a solo !

  • I defs want the SD's in the bridge position but what would you recomend putting in the neck position? What is a good combination to go with the super distortions?

  • Damn i would love a valve amp but i cant afford one :(. would the super distortion make ANY GOOD change using a solid state??

  • Comment removed

  • how much better is this than epiphone alnico classic (v?)

  • @ChristianFS1 it very much depends on what you want from a pickup. Epiphone pickups have never been a renowned favourite of the guitar playing alumini !! but may just suite what you are doing perfectly in which case the DiMarzio will do nothing for you. If you want nicely focused seering sustain for solos and raunchy overdirve from your valve amp get the Dimarzio !

  • @Mattukgtr Hmmmm, i dont really like the stock epiphone pickups i am about to change them to Alnico PRO 2.

  • i was wondering if the dimarzio super distortions could be coil tapped anyone who wants to answer please answer cuz every repliers apreciated

  • @zippyXL - Yes the current models have four wires for splitting/phasing etc

  • @Mattukgtr thanxs

  • Hi from Dublin Ireland sweet tone and playing !

  • hey dude if you must chose some pickups, what will you take. the dimarzio DP100 super distortion or seymour duncan sh-4 ? i play some handmade custom guitar with basswood body, and i play metal a lot. please give me an advice bro.

  • @MatheusAdrian not too familiar with basswood however for metal, of the two pickups, I'd go with the DP100

  • @Mattukgtr thx for your advice dude. i'll go with the DP100 LOL thx

  • Dude, that is the perfect blues-based hard rock tone! What else have you got going on there, sound wise besides the Dimarzio? What are you plugged into? What kind of pup do you have at the neck?

  • @killerdude35 see the description for the video - it's recorded direct using a line6 Podxt.

  • @benjaminwjk are you sure? hum canceling rail single coils can sound that crunchy and fat?!

  • can a single coil strat sound like that?

  • A nice, clear distortion! If you know what I mean! Defined!

  • great sound! but i'm not a fan of anything line6 makes. i'd rather hear this kind of sound with real tube amps and efx. nonetheless great sound! nice guitar as well :)

  • @ThrashingBuddha that's pretty damn ignorant. I bet if he didn't tell you this was a Pod you'd be talking about how awesome it was.. enjoying the tube sound is one thing, being a tube elitist is pretty rediculous.

  • great thing man! very nice.

  • Love the Super D. It's my fav Dimarzio. Nice demo.

  • @mattukgtr

Hi mate, this sounds grrrrreat:-) I frickin love the SD pups. I have the full sized humbucker and just having a SD put in my tele.

I see you have the LS80 and 150F. The 80 is selling at £650 and the 150 is £1200. I would put a SD bridge and Alnico II neck so bearing in mind I would change the pups is the 150 worth the extra £550?

Listening to your LS80 it sounds great:-)

    Keep up the sweet vids:-)

  • @sroberts408 The 150F is now pricey at £1200 I payed 300 less with a case new in 2008. The 150F has some mojo tho. Neck profile is slightly slimmer also the flame top, Aluminium tail and bridge with brass saddles and the long tenon neck joint and nitro finish and its lighter in weight. That said the LS80 is a very close second to it. I added an aluminium tailpiece to the LS80. The LS150F actually now has a Gib burstbucker #3 in the neck (alnico II) and DiMSupDist in the bridge - awesome!

  • @Mattukgtr m8 do you prefer Super distortion or Tonezone? i mailed dimarzio for my grg170dx they suggest me the Super Distortion F-spaced . Whats F-spaced?

  • @WutangClan4LiF3 F-Spaced is for slightly wider string spacing so the pole pieces on the pickup are spaced then to be under each string. It's similar to Seymour Duncans Trembucker variant though I think the Trembucker is slightly wider spaced than DiMarzio's F-Spaced !

  • amp is a jcm800?

  • you have the hand of GOD

  • It’s nice!! Great!

  • The best pups alongside with alnico 2 pro.

  • Great guitar, just fantastic, but the style of playing really doesn't match the guitar

what I mean i, you could play that style with most guitars and it would still sound the same, something a little cleaner and less shredding would be better represented for this awesome gem of a guitar.

Please let me know if it ever comes up for sale

  • @guygroovy I'm sorry but I disagree, most guitars would not sound the same. The PODxt amp model responds particularly well to the pickup's output pushing it further into distortion as it would with a tube/valve amp. The whole point of this pickup is to push pre-amps over the edge so I don't think a cleaner demo of this pickup is that relevent ! though I guess it could be pushing a clean pre-amp over to break up !

  • wow, that tokai guitar sounds great.

I'd be all over it and probably already own one if it were not for the fact that "tokai" translates to "poo" in my country. :(

  • is a smooth distortion, you could play metal?

  • You didnt say if that was the only PUP used in this vid? Did you have both PUPs switched on or just the DP100? I have a DP100 bridge and a DP104neck for my Jag and will be using a push/pull pot to split them into singles. Both PUPs should balance each other out nicely or i will have my choice of many tonal possabilities.

  • @journeyquest1 It was the only pickup used in the video as per the title. You can see the selector is down throughout. Thanks

  • U ARE A GENIUS ÊVERY ONE DO THUMBS UP 4 HIM AND THUMBS UP IF U WHANT THIS PICKUPS! :)

  • wtf.......................all i want is a cheap alternative....and i thought maybe gfs pickups could run with theese........NOT

  • hey ur playing and tone is great, how well do harmonics and pinches come out with that pickup?

  • @muzicboy99 harmonics and pinches really depend on your technique as you can get them out of most guitar pickups easily given a bit of tube gain. This pickup is powerful and easily coaxs most pre-amps easily into this effect.

  • @Mattukgtr I totally agree on the harmonics and pinch harmonics. After playing for 32 years I learned that technique and the guitar have 100% to do with it. Once a person has the technique down, you can hear the harmonics clearly on an unplugged guitar. The pickups, amp etc just enhances the sounds. Also, if you're playing on junk or a poorly setup guitar, you can be Eddie Van Halen and still not be able to get harmonics.

  • wow and this is a direct recording..no mic used....

  • @stevoe1000 that is correct no mic used. The Line6 PODxt is a very good source of sounds for direct recording or just jamming on headphones.

  • @Mattukgtr sounds good.. what amp model did you use on this vid?

  • @Mattukgtr Hey there. I've been searching around youtube looking for some unique tones that i can steal, and the sound you are getting out os that Tokai is the best i've heard in a very long time. thanks so much for uploading this, sounds amazing.

  • @Mattukgtr Hey there. I've been searching around youtube looking for some unique tones that i can steal, and the sound you are getting out of that Tokai is the best i've heard in a very long time. thanks so much for uploading this, sounds amazing.

  • nice and warm sound

  • Japan made Tokai, Yamaha and Ibanez guitars with give any Gibson a run for its money

  • Wilshire - thought they were mini-humbuckers ?

You don't really use a Dimarzio SDHB Dp100 for cleans. However, clean it is very loud and forward. In the middle twin pickup switch position with something laid back like a Gibson 490R in the neck the clean sound is silky smooth and jangly ! with a hint of nasal phase cancellation although wired in phase.

  • This sounds great. I'm looking at potentially putting this in the bridge of my '67 Wilshire. How are the cleans?

  • Did you noticed much difference between the stock humbucker and this one?

  • @PunkRockCovers The stock humbucker is similar to a Gib Burstbucker Pro which is vintage style low-ish output. The DiMarzio is very high output - much fuller and louder.

  • john lennon just rolled over in his grave to hide the huge boner he just got

  • Cool playing and sweet charming dreamy sound :)

  • I have a fender strat. Would it be nice if i put one of these in it? Is it even possible?

  • @guitarca4 Yes you could do it. You would need a scratchplate cut for HSS. Keep your old scratchplate so you can go back as you were, later, if needed.

  • Holy Humbucker!!!!!

    my ears are orgasming

  • hey dude! ur awsome. and let me ask u which pick ups should i get for my gibson les paul studio... dp 100 super distortion or p 90 pickups. which d o u think sounds better if u would no? thanks

  • @snipesguy21 I'd go for the DP100 Super Distortion with a 490R in the neck. Take a look at the vid I just posted of my Gibson LP Standard fitted with this pickup combination.

  • hey dude! ur awsome. and let me ask u which pick ups should i get for my gibson les paul studio... dp 100 super distortion or p 90 pickups.

  • Great tone! I just got a Samick LP-style guitar and am thinking of putting Dimarzios in it - probably PAF Pro and Super Distortion. That's the tone I'm looking for...thanx for posting!

  • nice tone bro!!! rock blues!!!

  • dude first you sound like the GOD of Rock second do you think it would sound as awsome in a les paul standard?

  • @MrLU2000 - Yes the super distortion sounds awesome in a Gibson Les Paul Standard I've used one in mine as my main guitar for many years. In fact after much experimentation with lots of pickups my old 70's Super Distortion in now back in my Gib LP.

  • Nice playing bro,and great tone!

  • Thats what im looking for! proper les paul overrated slash beefy overdrive.

  • Nice tone! Well played.

  • di marzioo goood:D

  • that les paul is a gibson?

  • @ediporck No it is a Tokai Love Rock LS80 Made In Japan in 2008.

  • @Mattukgtr

my god duude it sound soooo rock and roll! ahahahahaa

  • @Mattukgtr amazing guitars

  • wow good sound

  • wow u are so good...yeah

  • Yo man, can you make a video of you playing some Led-Zeppelin licks using this guitar & pickups? Thx.

  • that playing would make any pickup sound amazing, this is false advertising because i would never sound like that hahaha
