  • adjust the valves those engines suck ass and they get out of adjustment so adjust the valves and it will run like new.

  • i have the same motor and for some reason the motor wont even turn over. when i turn the key it just clicks any thoughts?, i just put a new solenoid switch in it, and swapped the starters with one from my other 14.5hp motor and it did the same thing. HELP PLEASE!!!!

  • @Shrpshooter99 . I fixed mine. It is most certainly the valves are out of adjustment. I will send you a good video on how to do it. Good luck.

  • @Budnipper82 thanks alot, appreciate it

  • I've rehoned the valves on mine and it's the exact same model and engine and the valves still act the same it's just the battery connection or the starting solenoid has a weak connection and my rig has a burnt exhaust valve and has a loud back fire when you kill the engine.

  • @Decy8844 .... Actually it was the valve adjustment. The starter was good as I changed it out with another one just like it as well as the solenoid. I adjusted the valves and it starts like it is suppose to now. You are probably not adjusting them the right way. Make sure you adjust them when the engine is cold as well. Good luck!

  • make sure you dont have the wrong battery. the cheap battery is for up to 12hp and better is 12+ I had the same issue as you .

  • check the valve clearance

  • like everyone else probably is saying is the valves this one does same thing as Donyboy73's video the mower in that one did

  • What is the make and model?

  • Like everyone else says it's either the valve clearances or the compression release has broken or is not functioning.

  • donyboy73 has a great vid of this problem on the same engine in his channel....

  • @tucksbestproduction Thanks tucks... Just watched the vid and looks like that's the problem. I'll see what I can do to fix it. Thanks, Brett

  • @Budnipper82 you´re welcome brett...good luck

  • on these OHV motors you have to keep up on the valve clearances, if there is to much valve lash the compression release will not work, and its impossible to crank them over. What it is if theres to much lash, the bump on the camshaft doesn't open the valve on the compression stroke. A brand new starter won't even crank them over haha Hope that helps man! if you need the valve clearances, let me know and i will send it to you. Later bud

  • @fnaguitarplayer9 .. Thanks man! I think that's the problem. Yeah if you could send that info that would be great! Thanks again.. Brett

  • @Budnipper82 no problem, glad to help, its very common on these OHV motors. I did a video on my 14.5 a while back and this is on it, look at my videos its called briggs 14.5 HP OHV Reassembly, it might be in the suggested videos on the right of side this video... the intake valve is set at .003" to .005" and the exhaust valve is set at .005" to .007", on my video i show how to do it, i just did one valve in the video, but both valves are done the same, except the clearance is different.

  • @fnaguitarplayer9 hope this helps you

  • @fnaguitarplayer9 I think I have this same issue, can you send me the valve clearance info as well. Thanks!!!

  • @rchassereau intake valve = .003" to.005", exhaust valve = .005" to .007" no problem
