  • Senhor, esta é a interpretação mais emocionante que ví de um dos concertos mais emocionantes que ouvi. Obrigado Senhor. Obrigado Valentina.

  • Break is not for Cough lol.

  • There is a reason why this concerto is so popular; this performance shows it to everyone who didn't know; in my eyes, it is the perfect concerto...

  • Glorious!

  • beats modern any day!

  • @Vesivian Amen.

  • the second movement is a bit too fast for my taste.

  • My favorite:) Snow queen:)

  • this is her best performance

  • awesome!

  • really great interpretation grieg's concerto, congratulations. however without being rude i have to say that the person who said this is the best interpretation should listen to the lipatti verion. i know it s unfair to compare a god to a human but it's also unfair that lipaati has a lot fewer views. you should listen and discover the genious.

  • The secret to success is genetic superiority and dedication. Look at those long, beautiful fingers. Even her amazing speed and coordination is, without the slightest doubt, partially due to superior genes. Many have tired; none reach her level; why? She was born a princess and has developed herself into a goddess.

  • Let's all listen a few more times so the count hits 80,000

  • One of the most beautiful and exciting cadenzas ever heard...

  • UAOOt... esta cadenza , solamente con Rubinstein la habia escuchado con con tanta fuerza y calidad. BRAVO, LISITSA, SOS GRANDE!!!!.

  • such a beautiful pianist, i love how passionate you are when you are playing, it is as if you breath life into the piano. wonderful job.

  • please... name song?????

  • Fantabylous playing. Is it just me or is part 3 of this set of Grieg Concerto videos nowhere to be found?

  • Winter losing its icy Northern grip, sun glistening at last and early dew drops slide lazily to the floor...... bit like Paisley really :-))))

  • The first ten seconds of the 2nd movement are out of this world. The rest is just heavenly and brings chills down my spine for the pure beauty of it.....

  • Che dolcezza!!!!!

  • i can't trifle with lovely and won't a bit bombastic but i will listen and listen and listen

  • Beautiful composition and pianist. But I don´t really get the thrills from this performance... It´s good from many angles, but it´s not good enough to be great. Very VERY few pianists are great btw..

  • A+++

  • U R lovely. i'm really enjoying listen to you!

  • The guy in the back, in front of the timpani dropped his marijuana pipe right at 4:20. How significant!

  • "Grieg was the most romantic of us all" Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

    Need more be said?

  • powerful

  • I dream, I dream of Norway's beautiful mountains, villages and cities, I'm back in Bergen again when I hear your beautiful interpretation of my yndglingskomponist

  • Im sorry, But This Concerto Is All About The Second Movement . And How Fast Is Not So Important !!! And Dont Compare Her With Horowitz. 2 Different Methods.

  • This is delicious and delightfull, mad props, do your homework and smoke weed

  • ...è un vero capolavoro.... Grande Grieg...brava Valentina...bravi tutti...

  • The end of this movement by Valentina Lisitsa is one of the most beautiful things I ever heard. Thanks for existing, thanks for playing.

  • Wonderful!

  • Stephen Bishop, 1970 recorded performance:

    watch?v=kpeCTT38iP8

thanks and all the best, you play like an angel!

  • @classicvinylbiz She is pretty much the best pianist around.,

  • One of the most inspirational pianists of our time. Valentina, you rock! :)

  • I dont care! Horowitz' genious, Beethovens compotional talent and cosmic feeling and so on. This is my favourite composer and panist at the same concert. Extraordinary interpretation, feeling and sound. Wish i was there

  • Thats honestly brought tears to my eyes.

    Breathtaking.

  • Gracias por esforzarte en dar lo mejo de ti en cada presentación.

  • I avoided watching a professional perform this piece before i played it for my senior recital. After watching this, I realize I should have looked this up earlier. It really would have helped a lot to see a professional's take on how to play it. I feel so inadequate now! But at the same time, inspired. I only learned the first movement but I hope I can learn to play it even half as well as you!

  • 4:20...in the middle of the dramatic pause too...did he stop everyone?

  • The cadenza is insanely hard ! Good job.

  • Valentina, thank you so very much to let us have this quality on internet :) This is so soothing. Why isn't this on cd? Pls...let them record this on cd.

  • The cadenza is an orchestra itself. So beautiful, Valentina!

  • Yikes! I would hate to be the guy that dropped that thing. The conductor gave him the EVIL EYE!

  • one of the best renditions of the grieg concerto i've ever heard.

  • Valentina, beautiful, thank you.

  • I love Valentina!! I've watched this performance on Youtube over and over and never get tired of it. My only problem is with the orchestra . . . at times there seems to be a power control between the higher chaired violins . . quite a demonic powerplay . . . you can tell when the performance rests on them . . but Valentina is unparalleled in her performance!

  • i wonder if they filmed this concert and hv dvds on sale in korea?

  • the secret of her success is that she is completely relaxing her muscles after each stroke. This technique comes from Liszt and she understood how to preserve her from muscular problems. In her repertory are the most physique pieces existing and she does them brilliant. This capacity of relaxin allows her to go on without problems (Horowitz could not...)

  • @uhartchristian

ha, this guy actualy knows what hes talking about. for lack of a better word, the techinque is an impulse.

  • @uhartchristian yes but Horowitz played faster than her when he wanted and for how ever long he wanted

  • @uhartchristian yes you are totally right ! i think she is one of the rare pianists who manage to have the liszt technique. she has "dead hands". thats the only clue liszt gave us: to have dead hands lol

  • I doubt very much if it was ever a problem for Horowitz lol....with a due respect

  • @uhartchristian I noticed what you are talking about, but could you elaborate on what she does and how she does it?

  • watch in hq

  • addicted too..

  • please come to Greece Valentina....

  • *Shivers*!!

  • one of my fav piano concerti. love the ending of mov 1

  • I collect different versions of this concerto. This is one of the best I have heard. She plays with her heart.

  • Am I the only one who finds the advertisments that pop up along the bottom of the screen irritating?

  • I just love armchair critics - I think at this point we can safely say that anything which needs to be said about the piano can be said AT the piano - not through youtube video text comments.

  • I think what I meant is, god wasted no ingredients when he made "Valentina". For sure she makes a lot of people seem stupid. For one, their stupid opinions. She defies convention.

  • Her fingers are so powerful! (and musical, too)

  • Valentina,

Si Brahms te hubiera conocido, hubiera escrito un tercer concierto para ti

  • Grieg was not a great concert or symphony composer, his speciality lay in making smaller pieces for piano or vocals.

  • That's why his concerto is near the top of the standard repertoire, I suppose.

  • unjustly awarded I'd say. Too similar to Schumann's, and for a first movement, not conveying grand ideas, emotion or development compared to the other greats (Brahms 1-2, Tchaikovsky 1, Beethoven 3-5, Mozart 20-1,. Rach 2-3).

Of course its a good concerto, and the cadenza is fantastic, but is very repetitive (although so is the Schumann concerto it mimics). I'd be interested to know what its about.

  • Have you heard any of his pieces? He was wonderful, i can never stop listning to his Symphonys, but i guess people have diffrent opinion.

  • ur right

  • She plays in a very feminine way, doesnt she? Never realised before.

  • i'm not sure i agree, the power and affirmation of her pianistic style seem more masculin to me, but (if that's what you meant) there is indeed a incredible sensibility in her playing.

  • hmm is it me or ...are u criticizing Grieg 's talent in composition ? god ...

  • i can't stop watching you Val. and your vids are bascially the only ones on the whole of youtube i leave comments for. that's how impressive and amazing you are.

  • ...wonderful...amazing...

  • Best Grieg Concerto ever! VL is the bomb.

Someone got a dirty look from the conductor at 4:20 after they dropped something. How embarrassingly funny!

  • You're right, that was hilarious. Haha :) :)

  • @cvalkan4 Thanks for pointing that look out - that is one of the funniest things I've seen...

  • @cvalkan4 you can see him picking it up in the back haha

  • @cvalkan4 It was the guy in the back row, right in front of the Timpani. You can see him bend over, pick it up and put it in his pocket. LOL!!!

  • @cvalkan4 there is the little rascall! last row in front of the percussionist i think.

  • @Diekenzakk yes you are correct. If you look 3 or 4 comments below, I pointed this out about a month ago.

  • @schaefer1697

next time i ll check all comments to see if maybe someone already said sth similary, lol. the one and only schaefer1697 found the one who dropped his stick, no one else!

  • @cvalkan4 HAHA!! Hadn't seen it!! Embarassing as when you surprise a body builder looking at himself. Those things that make us realize we're just small creatures...

  • please come to australia!! we need to see you LIVE.

  • Valentina Lisitsa FTW !!! ^^

  • I randomly stumbled onto Valentina's music while listening to other performers on youtube. Every single piece posted by this lady has been absolutely stunning! I cannot believe she isn't more well known....perhaps one day she will be a huge star. Beautiful and so very talented!!

  • A magnificent performance. A day doesn't go by until I listen to Valentina play Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto. She makes my day!

  • Great!

  • what a great energy that was awsome..rare performance.. 5 stars

  • She's magic.

  • to be honest, i m going to listen to this concerto at least once a day from now onwards

  • I agree with angelviolin14. Valentina is playing this piece the way it should be played. This is the world's most popular piano concerto & has been well covered. Out of all I've ever heard I definitely choose Valentina's version (come on, where is the CD/DVD :). I've seen them both, and Val as soloist in a whole, fantastic concert !

  • Ah, beautiful the 2nd movement! I would expect the 2nd movement and Valentina Lisitsa to be mentioned in the same context.

  • Maravillosa Lisitsa!!!

  • Wow what a nice peice...Valentina is a great piano player. I have to say she's one of the few that you can actually feel what she's trying to convey through her music...or at least to me. Valentina and Hilary (Hahn) are both exceptional artists and I hope to see them soon.
