So beautiful, such soulful music, what a great voice, you have such a wonderful gift, you are amazing.God takes one thing away but gives you another,a very special gift.
I was only stumbelin over the words I'm proud to be Australien because of him.I just don't understand how someone can be proud of a culture, they don't belong to.
I didn't say that out of the blue, I have indigenous australians friends, saw there living conditonen and I know their problems at first hand.
I hope your admiration for this wondefful musican makes you help to make Australia a better place for them.Using their Art to make money is not enough.
@butterbluemchen1961 Some friends and I had a conversation over dinner the other night about how difficult it is to compliment other cultures- particularly the Aboriginal culture without causing some offense or feeling inappropriate. I am not proud to be Australian just because of him- I just said he was the kind of Australian who makes me proud. Now I wish I hadn't of written anything as it has all been over-analysed and made to look like I'm trying to take credit for his amazing gift..
Took my breath away! This is the kind of thing that makes me proud to be Australian-not people riding their bikes across France or who won the AFL something I can relate to, admire and appreciate. He is a musical genius!!
I understand your feelings, but the white Australians should first amend the horrible wrongs the've done to the Aboriginies, before they have a right to be proud of them.I know it's better now than in former times, but still they don't have the same chances. Much more must be done.If you are not white, I say sorry, than this remark is not for you.
@butterbluemchen1961 What I have written is more admiration- I admire his talent and personally with all due respect I think I have a right to do that regardless of my skin colour. I completely agree that White Australians should apologise on behalf of previous generations for invading Australia, stealing Aboriginal children from their mother's arms, introducing foreign diseases, alcohol and a whole host of other absolutely disgusting genocidal behaviours which no one wants to acknowledge.
cont'd : I suppose how do we ever bridge the gap if we can't just accept kind words. I don't like how I have to always second guess if something is racially inappropriate or wrong. I was coming from a place of kindness and respect when I made the original comment.
