  • it so long your lucky :( please explain this to me .. my hair used to be healthy and passed my shoulders but after every time i straightened it it got shorter and shorter? what should i do but i dont have straight pieces at the end like she does heelp pleaasse :(

  • Your hair looks just like mine lol. I think I'm addicted to my flat iron, or was.. Well I've been without it for a month and doing braid outs help with the straight ends A LOT!

  • I feel you.

  • i suffer with heat damage nd color treated hair no bleach but still chemicals that have altered my curl pattern sum places like the front top of my hair have little 2 no curls ...i havent used heat since april nd its now dec my bday is xmas nd i want to see my length so i am gettin a wash n set 2morro...i am jan 1 officially in transition mode because june 2012 i will be BC getting my hair back!!!

  • Story of my life!!! There needs to be a Natural Sista Who Still Straightens support group because the struggle is real do you hear me!!!

  • I think you are right. You do kinda have to choose. My hair is f-ed up and I AM not straightening it again for no one, nobody, not my mama not my daddy. No.

  • try braid outs even when I relaxed my hair braid outs would give it a "curl" or wave all the way to the ends. hey might help if you don't want to cut all the damage off at once that way you grow it out and cut little by little

  • this is the story of my life!!! i miss it curly but the ends won't curl so i end up straightening it!! a never ending vicious cycle smh

  • I'm gonna keep it real. Depending on how severe the damage is, you may just have to grow that hair out. The same thing happened to me, and I realized my hair was permanantly straightened and I had to grow it out. You don't have to cut your hair, but you must be gentle with it. Use great products like Wen cleansing conditioner, longhairlovers leave in, a flat iron like Colorful Seasons, Africa's Best Oil and satin pillow case. Hope that helps

  • Your hair looks like mine when it was relaxed. It is damaged. You should cut those ends. Have your hair short it suck but trust me it is goold for healthy hair.Use oils and conditioner.

  • leave it alone..... don't cut it bc like u said if ur gonna straighten again what's the point? if ur attached to ur length leave it be. i'm going chem free w/out a big chop my relaxed hair will go as a part reg trims. i can't live w/out decent length ponytail hair. that's just me i accept that. so just leave it be & decide that u love twist outs, bantu knots & braid outs to blend the straight & curly. & is it really damaged if the texture has changed but it's not shedding or splitting ridic?

  • @fanatic709 I have since cut off the heat damage. My ends aren't splitting or dry. I keep them very moisturized. Check out my latest videos. I talk allll about it.

  • Don't BC just try to straighten your hair with roller sets and then do a silk wrap. Trim hair every 2 months until heat damage is gone. Don't forget to do twist/braid outs to add texture to your hair. good luck.

  • @palmerjes Thanks! Other than the silk wraps that's what I've been doing! :)

  • @ thekglifestyle. my hair is in the same situation as yours. I also have heat damaged hair. I loved getting my hair flat ironed. I haven't done it for 3 months now. The bottom layer of my hair is what is heat damaged. the top is 3c hair. I do not want to do the BC. I am going to just grow it out and get the ends trimmed every 2 months. when i feel my roots though, i feel a curl pattern so im making progress.

  • yeah you do have to choose weather to be a straight natural or a curly natural our hair can't take both

  • @astrozier1 I thought so too when I recorded this, but I think I might be proving myself wrong. Stay tuned to hear about how far my hair has come. Going from a flat iron to wash 'n go.....:-/ or :-D?

  • @thekglifestyle ok I will

  • I can completely relate. 50% of my hair is heat damaged but I refuse to big chop. What I am doing are protien treatments and a one year no heat challenge. I'm going on month three and it is hard but has forced some serious creativity in me. When I'm done, I'm hoping the heat damage will have been trimmed off naturally.

  • A beer rinse & scrunching works wonders!

  • @misstee14 First time I've ever heard this one! I just cut most of the damage off, but I will have to try that. Thanks!

  • tresemee thermal creations- heat tamer spray is a wonderful heat protectant that does not need to be combined with anything else. you should try it and im very sorry to see u struggling with heat damage

  • Also, have you tried a Beer rinse????

  • So... My hair looks exactly like yours and I'm frustrated. If you haven't yet, try the aphogee protein treatment. I did it about two months ago and after several washes and deep conditions I saw my hair go back to it's natural state. Then I straightened it again (without using a hear protectant.) That was a BAD decision. I'm so afraid I have to do a BC. So I did the apogee a second time. I suggest with your hair length that you buy two packs because that was just enough for me (straightened, my

  • Try using amla mask treatments. It naturally add more texture and curl to your pattern. Not saying it will bring all of your curls back. But it's something that I love to use in keeping my coils springy. And you are right regarding straightening your hair as a natural. You really do hve to choose which side you like more and cater to that. Because it's really easy to get heat damaged strands.

  • I just had to leave a quick note to say thank you! I am going through the same problems right now with my heat damaged hair and I am just getting so frustrated because none of the natural styles seem to work for me. But watching your videos really gives me hope. I'm going to keep working at it and give the Aphogee a try to see if that helps! Thanks for posting this!

BTW Love your curls in the other no BC Video!

  • no problem gurl.. trust me it really works.... i used it on my hair n omg a dramastic change when i first did it.. n even the 6 weeks after.. if u do one plz have a video on it.. i wuld love to watch u do it :-D.. Good luck!

  • if u have heat damage u shuld do the aphogee two step protein treatment.. i learned it from a fellow youtuber taren916 and i didit on my hair and my heat damage is practically gone.. if u got any questions on it just got to taren916 heat damage road to recovery on her play list and she explains everything

  • @klok287 I've been talking about doing that FOREVER. I think I have a fear of it not working because everyone has hyped it up so much. Next wash I'm doing it for sure though. Thanks to you refreshing my memory! Thank you! KG :)

  • I'm so glad I found your channel! I have yet to find someone else who prefers to straighten their natural hair as much as I do. And of course, I have the same heat damage issue. I want to embrace wash & gos in the summer but the front of my hair on the right side, and parts on the top just won't revert. I refuse to BC as well but then I get frustrated and give up trying and I just end up straightening because it's just easier that way. Sadly, it's become a cycle for me :-(

  • @abright1015 Hey! If you are straightening correctly then you shouldn't have a problem (lowest heat setting possible, good heat protectant). It definitely take patience though because you have to cut the heat damage off, slowly but surely. Stay encouraged! You can do it!

  • you need to invest in a really good heat protectant like FHI's hot sauce or mizani's thermal gaurd and ONLY use that when blow drying and flat ironing your hair. Do not use the glycerin mix. It will dilute the heat protectant. Use your argon oil & coconunt oil AFTER to wrap & style. sometimes oils help to burn the hair instead of protecting it when using heat.

  • @heatherjohnsonmusic The one I have now is okay One &Only (DPrincess28 also uses it). When I run out I will pick something new up. I put the mix on my roots only to prevent flaking so no threat of dilluting the heat protectant there. I DEFINITELY don't put the coconut oil on my hair until after I flat iron and put only a small amount of argon oil on before straighteneing. This has worked for me so far (check out my straightening vid) but thank you for the FHI and Mizani's suggestions!

  • you using a heat serum when you straighten?

  • @RufaroDiaries I am now, but I didn't for years so I'm just going to grow it out and trim it off as time goes on.

  • Try doing braid outs and twist outs. I know it sucks but just do it.

  • @TheNeyni23 Braid out and twist and curls are a God sent for me! Thanks for the comment!

  • u dont have to completely stop heat. u could try hair dried roller sets. i used to do them and they work great.

  • @OasisOfBeauty Thanks! I tried a flexi rod set and I loved it!

  • ok soo i never thought i would find the day where some1 else has a similar natural hair texture as mine..mixed up in the 3s :S... ANDDDD is growing out their hea damage...WOOOW!! wash and goes kill me too... i jus have these hideous straight ends hangin..ugh!! loool bt i'm currently growing it all out... any tips and hints...ur transition seems to be growing pretty well :)

  • @rayneedabeautiful YAY! I'm glad you found me, cuz I remember looking for someone to relate to on YT. Just stay motivated, vent if you need to. Come up with some staple styles that you know work for you. After I do this apHogee treatment, and if my ends don't revert enough for my liking, I'll leave the wash n go's alone! I don't want to frustrate myself when I know what's up! LOL! Basically know that it's something to work around, which is fun because you can get creative with it! Good luck! :)

  • @thekglifestyle okkk thnks sooo muchhh!! ur a great helpppp!!!! hhj x

  • why don't you gradually cut your ends maybe grow three months worth then cut 1/2 inch . I understand the feeling of not wanting short hair because i'm transitioning(8months) I just got some sengalese twist to stop applying heat even though I only go to the Dominicans once a month n air dry besides that I've decided i'm going to start heat training once I get to one year. I like straight hair too but the healthiness of natural and versatility.

  • @missp09able I cut about a 2 inches from November to January (so like a little more than half an inch every month) that helped with the frustrations, but I haven't trimmed since. So I need to get that done. Slowly but surely!

  • You gotta stop straightening SO often. I also would recommend you try other ways of straightening your hair than the flat iron. The flat iron is the devil! Heat damage is the reason I cut my hair and I've made a vow not to use any heat for a whole year.

  • @tyi3284 Hey girl! I have straightened my hair 5 times since September of 2009, so I'm doing good. I can see where my new growth of about 6-8 inches has come in and then the straight ends from all those years. Styling is difficult with those ends but I'm determined not to BC, so I'll deal with it. Stay tuned for my apHogee treatment video coming soon. I'm hoping that helps!

  • No BC 4 me either. I've been natural for 8 yrs. 7 yrs I pressed my hair b/c I didn't know how 2 care 4 my multiple curl textures. 11 months ago I started my "textured journey" & have only straightened my hair like 5 times. I still have some heat damaged ends but I notice more curls are coming in & heat damage hair is wavier!

    * I use an apoghee tx every 6 wks started in October 2010

    * I deep condition weekly

    * rinse with cold water

    * shingled w/ MJ's, aloe gel & eco mix & had curls finally!

  • @so to continue my comment LOL sry its soo long. I finally found my potion I think. So just keep trying different things & something will work. I just pined up my stringy strands & let the curls in the back flow :o)

    GOOD LUCK!

  • @naturallybison I am definitely going to try and pin up some of the straight strands. The journey continues. Thanks for the comment! :)

  • Sands try No heat for a while( a long while), it worked form me!!!

  • @MarquitasArt I'm gonna keep using it sparingly and with heat protectants. The heat damage I have is from before last year. My hair is really curly for about 7 inches which is all new grow from the year I stopped using heat. Looking back now, I think I'm doing great, but I just wish my whole head was curly.....the only way to get there is to cut off the straight ends...and I'm NOT doing that! LOL!

  • I don't feel you should have to chop your hair off. Just do the aphogee and see how it goes. But you are going to have to make your mind up b/t flat ironing and getting your natural curls back. I probably only flat iron my hair 3-5 times a year. I like my hair straight too sometimes but my curls are more important to me. Hope it works out for you. You still have beautiful hair. =)

  • @ThaSexyNerd Thanks love! :)

  • One thing I've learned is that wash and go's shouldn't be done on heat damaged hair. Those straight pieces are going to be there and that's SOOO frustrating. Also, please post a vid after you do the Aphogee....I too purchased some and haven't had the courage to try it yet! Good luck to you!

  • @angelfac3007 Yup! I guess I had to come to this realization as well. I will definitely post a video after the apHogee. Thanks for watching! :)

  • Use a Good Clarifying Shampoo to remove all the cone build-up that's on your hair (from heat protectants).

You might need to shampoo more than once.

That should help the Aphogee 2 Step Treatment penetrate your hair thouroughly.

    Happy Natural Hair Journey!

    :D

  • @chiquitacyborg Thanks! I will definitely clarify/shampoo 2x!

  • OMG! ok so i totally feel you now! lol after watching the video of course lol... I have some straight ends I totally didnt BC... because i was afraid to :-/... and it sucks that we have to choose how we want our hair... you know either straight or natural.. i have never been a big flat ironer.. im a blow dryer.. and i cant even do that because that causes damage as wel.. maybe you can cut your hair as it grows, cause i dont think anything can revert heat damage.. EVEN THO I WISH SOMETHING COULD

  • @jazzybee445 Girl, the person that invents a way to revert heat damage will be an instant billionaire! LOL! Trimming as it grows is the plan. I still my damaged ends....I love all of my hair and I'm gonna keep up the healthy routine. :)

  • hey girly this comment is actually coming before watching your video and just reading some of the comments (but im still going to watch it lol :) -- ) anwyays I have very few heat damaged ends and in one of my last videos I showed how i curled the ends of my twists with straws.. I really think that you could probably curl the heat damaged ends with straws while letting the rest of your hair naturally curl and probably have the apperance of naturally curling hair w/o straigth ends

  • Also...I wanted to tell you that once I stopped shampooing with sulfates and left silicones alone my hair really started to bounce back. It's getting curlier and curlier every day.

  • @natalie20121 Okay, so I haven't used sulfates for like 6 months....but cones...not so much. I don't put too many products in my hair as it is though. Will try to limit the cones and see where that leaves me as well.

  • Girl you know I have struggled with my horrible heat damage but I have to admit that I truly had to leave heat alone. I haven't used heat since the beginning of January. But I think you will ultimately have to choose how you want to wear it most of the time. I realized I actually prefer to wear my hair curly 100% of the time but if you like to wear it straight most of the time then maybe you should do rod sets when you want the curly look. I'm sorry your frustrated. I feel your pain :-(

  • @natalie20121 I'm in the middle.....so I think you're right....in order for me to rock the curly look I'm going to have to do rod sets! In the meantime though, I will continue to limit heat, use heat protectants, and trim those damaged ends slowly!

  • I use the Ion and Nexxus brand protein reconstructor. I do a protein conditioner followed by a deep conditioner every week because I usually flat iron twice a month and sometimes if I have somewhere to go once a week. I think I have heat damage right now but thats because the salon stylist didnt use heat protectant with a high heat flat iron...rod sets for me! good luck! :)

  • @cjagsubr, Hmmmm, after apHogee's 2 step protein treatment I'm going to try Nexxus! Thanks for the suggestion!

  • (1)what kind of heat protectant do you use? maybe you need to try out different heat protectants to see which one works the best for your hair. Also maybe lower the heat setting on either your flat iron or your blow dyer. (2) i would also suggest cutting out some heat in your regimen. Instead of blow drying then flat ironing, you could let your hair air dry in braids so that it will be stretched out, then straighten. OR roller-set your wet hair, then flat iron after its dry. Hope this helps (:

  • @misticcharmer Thank you for your comment! I use One n Only Thermal Protectant, and Proclaim Argan Oil. I air dry 90% and then blow dry the roots. The heat damage is from years of non-stop flat ironing (Check out my Hair Journey vid). Now, I use a 375 degree setting with two passes on my roots and one pass on the length of my hair. Only flat ironed once this year so far (check out my flat iron vid). So my frustration comes from those straight ends. I'm going to try a roller set! Thanks!

  • Yes, I have some straight ends too but I don't care too much only because I like to wear straight hair too. just do trims. It will get better. That's what I'm doing and I see it's getting better slowly. Good luck.

  • @beautiful4days Thank you for the encouragement! Lord knows I need it! :)
