  • U2 & THE COCONUTS!!! from the WAR album

according to Bono, it was writ in the perspective of Christ for their non-'born again' bassist Adam Clayton, who changed roles with the Edge who did bass for their closer track on the LP "40" (based on Psalm chapter 40 verses 1 to 3).

  • Awesome bass!!!

  • The entire album was brilliant.

  • A magnificent record that still brings shivers after all these years. Oh and to say this is discordant rubbish is heresy !

  • wooooooooooooooooooo dis is awesome

  • The best U2 albums of all time.

    1. Achtung Baby

    2. Joshua Tree

    3. War

  • reading all the stuff about the lad being a band members son lol the same boy is on the boy album ,Ian something escapes me ,but Larry Mullen being his dad ,our Larry must have been putting it about at 8 year old ,as u2 are about 18 year old boys ,when boy came out and 2-3 year later on war lol {in short the lad has nothing to do with the band ,and in another post ,theres a lad on here who knows the boy and explains he modelled for the album covers only {bit of clarity i hope}

  • Discordant rubbish! Like something they made up after a few beers at lunchtime.

  • @Dynose of course you're right, they talk about serious things like war and death. But I have to say that art is not only about something, it's beauty anyway, and people are free to take it even with meanings very different from the first which comes to the mind. This music gives various great feelings which can be independent from the words. It's important to know the text and the intention of the songs, but it's not just that. Love to you all

  • @winggoddess yes, that wonderful kid is the same. He's the son of the member of U2 Larry Mullen

  • @thecherryontop19 His The Brother Of One Of Bono's Friends Whose Name Escapes Me!

  • @thecherryontop19 'What a load of rubbish" said the retard to the balloon salesman!

  • This whole album could've been the soundtrack to a Post Apocalyptic film. The Genius of U2!!!!!

  • is the kid they use on the war album the same one they use for boy? do(es) this kid(s) have any relation to the band members?

  • @winggoddess Yes..his name is Peter Rowan...

  • listen to the lyrics... they named the album war for a reason, cuz of the civil war. And u guys say that u like to get wasted. here they talk about death

  • LOVE the trumpet part!

  • " I give you my Love, until you walk away!! Whoa!!!!

  • best u2 album ?

  • @dreck93 No question!

  • @dreck93 Without a doubt.

  • First U2 album I ever heard ...bought the 33 in Miami...great memories....

  • I love that trumpet!

  • @sequalls ..i might be wrong, dont think so,the female harmonies were provided by the"coconuts", they were stablemates in island records..kid creole and the coconuts...and they had a top brass section....so my guess is.................

  • @EVERTONIC That's correct.

  • i've got 'red light' cut into a Polish post card. paid £25 for it about 25 yrs ago. does it play? no idea! it looks like it should and not many of them around for sure! great tune, album, band etc

    peace to you all

  • @mkcu2 thanks for that bs

  • @mkcu2 .if its dusty it needs a polish....what....?????

  • awww if it aint scittish its crap...

  • Started w/ WAR...then came UNFORGETABLE FIRE... went back and got BOY n OCTOBER... + WIDE AWAKE IN AMERICA ep..(Bass Trap... a "buried" track; my single top fav. rock instrumental of ALL TIME here) **pause** then came THE JOSHUA TREE! Without it I would simply not have made it through adolescence. So, you get the point: I'm a fan.

Question for fellow afficianado's who playing the brass on this track? Bono? Another member of the band? A studio stud? Not crazy important, but I am curious.

  • @pdaddyraz Kenny Fradley Trumpet.. I'm with you on that adolecence thing it was all over by achtung Baby..

  • I feel like there was a lot of atmospheric space in U2's early work between each band member, like on War and Boy. I miss that about them.

  • History Is Made !

  • Everything these guys did through Unforgettable Fire was genius. Then the posing and the radio hit writing started... I like to just pretend the band died in a plane crash on the way to the first recording session for The Joshua Tree. That way they remain untainted legends in my mind. :-)

  • that's off base to me, they had some hits and then they become posers? they did some of their most innovative and interesting work in the 90's. people need to stop living in the past. i love ALL eras of U2. yes WAR is probably my fave lp ever, but U2 has meant so much to me, from the beginning till now...

  • @KOSMICKEN09

But Achtung Baby was such a crock of shit.

  • @degree7

    No

  • @TheMotogavlas84

Either way you look at it, 'Who's gonna ride your wild horses' is a shitty song.

  • @degree7

Yes. But zoo station, ultra violet, the fly, acrobat, are good.

My favorite album is the unforgettable fire.

  • @termsofusepolice

    I completely agree.

  • I'd love to see them play this live and Bono whip out a trumpet.

  • Why did U2 always bury their best tunes ? This is my favourite U2 song by far

  • Youre right. It's a great song, very very underestimated.

  • @KENKENNIFF they're not buried if you can listen to them.

  • @KENKENNIFF Back in the day of albums most good tunes usually were on the B side in my opinion.

  • @KENKENNIFF Agree! I LOOOOOOVE this song...since the 1 st time I heard it. I don't think they buried it, just another victim of corporate radio deciding for us what is good.

  • good album to listen to when you're all wasted & heartbroken. Raw, Passionate, sensual. Even mystically charged almosphere!,..Well to me that's what It evokes!

  • IT totally changed my life when I was 13. incredibly emotional record. amazing production. probably the biggest reason i am as into music as i am today.

  • miami sux

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • Arguably the most underrated track off "War" next to "Drowning Man" (of which I consider on of the top 3 best tracks off the album).

  • love it

  • Love the trumpet in the song

  • BUEN TEMA

  • BUEN TEMA

  • The boy is Peter Rowan~ a mates younger brother! Great song from a great band ! Love U2!

  • wonder who the boy is on the front, does any1 no???

  • Peter, Bono's neighbour kid

  • Great song on the GREATEST U2 album EVER!!!!!!! WAR will always be the best U2 album of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song

  • WAR,one their best records,in my opinion. Not too much production.Just enough to where it's still raw enough. Great record.

  • I remember my moms reaction when she saw this cover. Brings back memories from jr. High school. Soon after Boy,October, and War....I moved on to my punk rock days.

  • An underrated song, and I love it so much.

Has a great "thing" to it. ;p
