  • so it took about $8,730,000 to make DBZ in english damn.

  • boy funimation has come a long way. i remember that crappy website rofl back then pojo's and dablackgoku were the best dbz sites

  • I'm confused. The video says it takes place in 1996, yet the producer says that they're gonna air DBZ on Cartoon Network. DBZ didn't arrive on Cartoon Network until 1998; before that it was shown in syndication on various broadcast networks, but was not very successful in the ratings, which is why the Ocean dub got cancelled and the Funi dub took over after DBZ became popular on CN.

  • yeah i just dont know y it was a low budget in the 1st place

  • lol this is so cool that they did all the stuff here in fort worth, its good to be a texan (: haha thanks for posting the video dude

  • @supervegito2277 What is making you think of that false observation? In other words, you're wrong. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @supervegito2277 You're still wrong and no matter how hyper you get with your CAPS you're not right.

These guys are animators. This is Funimation. This was a video about some of the background workings of FUNimation back in the mid 90s, when it was in Ft. Worth Texas. The two guys in this video are 2 of the 3 guys that birthed FUNimation. I am friends with them. They are no longer in Ft. Worth, they sold the company and now FUNimation is in Flower Mound, TX.

  • @supervegito2277 At what point do you hear that voice? During the cartoon segments? If that's what you're talking about... ARE YOU SERIOUS? :) They're animated segments as transitions. This video is about what goes on with the producers and animators of the show (Barry and Byron Watson at the time). READ , THEN WATCH. These guys are my friends, and Funimation was a place I was at every other day practically when it first started out in Ft. Worth, TX.

  • @supervegito2277 Wow are you really that inept? I'm reading all these comments, you're all so dense. How many times does the OP have to force your attention to read what the video says on the slate, and pay attention to the labels of the real men in the video who are talking? Are yall teenagers or something? With the attention span of a rock? Smoke a little to much pot lately? Jeeze Louise! Stop posting you're making yourself look really stupid. If I were you I'd delete all your posts lol!

  • @supervegito2277 LOL! this is hilarious. I feel the frustration Texformer and AC are feeling with supervegito. Supervegito must not know his DBZ as much as he wishes he did. I totally understand this video as a mini documentary/segment of what goes on behind the cartoon.

  • @supervegito2277 I hope you realize Seasons 1 and 2 were all done with FUNimation. Yes, that is the Ocean Group's voice actors, but it was FUNimation that did those episodes with that voice cast. Learn to study the end credits.

  • @supervegito2277 Let me break the dubs down for you.

FUNimation (with Ocean) Ep. 1-67 (1-53), Film 1-3

FUNimation (with Ocean) Film 1-3 (Uncut)

FUNimation Ep. 1-291 Film 1-13 TV Sp. 1-2

Westwood Media (with Ocean) Ep. 123-291

The first dub was when FUNimation hired Ocean. The second was when they redubbed the first 3 movies. The third was when FUNimation had inhouse voices. They started with ep. 68 and went up to ep. 291, aswell their redub of ep. 1-67.

  • @supervegito2277 That website should of had the Saiyan Saga end with episode 36.

  • Comment removed

  • @supervegito2277 It actually ends in the thirties.

  • @supervegito2277 Actually that's the one with Ocean voices you're thinking of. FUNimation worked with Ocean Studios in the 90's. At that time, they dubbed the first 13 episodes of Dragon Ball (and the first movie), and the first 67 episodes of Dragon Ball Z (and the first 3 movies). However, those 67 episodes were chopped down into 53 episodes.

  • @supervegito2277 I can't believe you don't get it. They're just cutaways, whocares? This whole time this is what you've been confused about? Man do you ever watch TV other than DBZ?

  • @supervegito2277 It's very clear in the video that it's not about the voice actors, or even the cartoon itself. It's obvious that this is an interview dealing with the producers and animators only behind the scenes of the show over here in the states. They even specificly touch on the fact that they get the show and re-edit over here. It seems like you did not watch the full video, but had a knee jerk reaction and made all these comments before listening to the entire video.

  • @supervegito2277 My PC? What the heck are you talking about. My PC does not control YouTube or the dates. That's completely on Google's side.

  • @supervegito2277 Noo.. actually these are just a line of comments that yall have been responding to in order and in a timely fashion There's been no respondonding of super old comments. It's just been a continuoous conversation. Just because you're embarassed at your error does not mean anybody else brought up an old thread :) LOL. I've been reading these in order, and there's been no gap in time between your misunderstandings.

  • hi you you seen dragonball z ki ?

  • @Velasa I assumed you were 15 yourself with your lack of comprehension skills. The Byron dude clearly states he animates for the show. The Barry guy is clearly talking about doing the business for the show. Where in the world are you getting anything about voice actors in this video? At what point does ANYBODY here say they are a voice actor? There is no conversation in this vid about the voice cast.

  • Just for people who don't understand production. They don't do everything in one building. They did the vos of the characters (back then) in Canada. They did the re-edits in Ft. Worth Texas. Then they sent the finished edits to wherever Cartoon Network was or other places of broadcast.

  • This isn't the FUNimation cast!

  • @hadpeami it's owned by FUNi, even then

  • @hadpeami It says 1996 right on the video dude o_O Of course it's not the FUNimation cast, they weren't even VAs yet for the most part.

  • @Velasa In my comment I was referring to the fact that the title said "Funimation interview", while the people seen in the video are not Funimation employees.

  • @hadpeami But they -were- working with FUNi back then, whether they were contracted with or direct employees, they were FUNi's cast at the point in time the interview was taken. So they -are- the FUNimation cast for sake of this interview.

  • @hadpeami Yes they are.. or were. Funimation started out with Daniel Kokenour, Byron Watson, and Barry Watson. Do some research before you make statements.

  • @hadpeami Not sure how hootyhaha knows, but... yes they were employees. What makes you think they werent? And thanks for the defense texformer. I don't care about internet posters, most of them are child ragers hiding behind a keyboard that don't know what they're talking about or comprehend what's in the beginning of the video. :)

  • @AdamCampetti The VAs in the video are those of Ocean Dub.

  • @hadpeami From watching the video, there are no VAs in this video. It seems that those are just the animators and producers behind the scenes. It even says that right on the front of the video :) Where are you getting VAs from?

  • @hadpeami No, the people in the video are not VAs from Ocean Dub. They are 1 producer from Funimation (which is labeled in the video), and 1 animator from Funimation (which is also labeled in the video).

  • @Velasa That's not the cast, and there's nothing in the video to say it was the cast. It's clear this is a short documentary about the people behind the scenes. READ PEOPLE, jeeze!

  • @texformer I assumed the guy I was talking to knew who the physical people in the video were, I thought he was just complaining about the VAs. If he was seriously talking about the people being interviewed not being the production cast... o_O well that's bizarre on his part but has nothing to do with what I was responding to.

  • @Velasa The way the video is clearly presented, is that these are just the folks behind the scenes. Not the talent. I'm not sure why anybody would confuse that, even if it was the other guy.

  • @hadpeami There is nothing in this video indicating that the people in this interview are cast. If you read the beginning slate, and look at the cg titles under the people talking it's very clear what this video is about and who the people are in the video AT FUNimation Studios. (They're not there anymore, this was a long time ago in their early stages of the company).

  • this is REALLY painful to watch..

  • @CodyTAGGIN Did you not comprehend that at the beginning of the video the uploader said it was his first video? Are you dense?

  • @hootyhaha Hmm, I don't seem to recall making fun of the uploader. I said that because the Funimation people were incredibly boring and complaining about drawing underwear.

  • lol been there done that
