This song always brings tears to my Eyes too...The little crippled Boy Didn't have any arms or Legs. Soooo, We just kept Mounting him from behind while he yelled, 'Giddy-Up Go Daddy... Giddy-Up Go....' until we gave him a 'Hot Load of Freight'... Everybody took their turn riding Teddy Bear...
this reminds me of my dad floyd orbin scott he was a truck driver and rolled his truck in cuncel grove kansas in 1987 and was killed i was 3 and everytime i hear it i think of him
I love this song, I'm only 18 but I remember hearing this song on the radio as a little kid and finally found it after many years. Such a good song :)
This makes me think about my dad...he was a trucker and very big hearted. My brother followed his footsteps and is still on the road. Dad passed on his big heart bc my brother does the same thing. Dad can be pround of his sons and daughters bc he and mom taught us well.
My mom used to play this song when I was a lil boy. She'd listen to it, & would just cry. I asked, "if the song is so sad, & makes you cry, why listen to it?" She looked at me, & said, "I'm not crying because I'm sad, I'm crying because I'm overwhelmed with happiness, & inspiration."
That was 35 years ago, I was only five at the time, & although she was speaking words that weren't yet in my vocabulary, I understood exactly what she said, & what she ment.
Wow, this song is, well , Depressing. Brings up thoughts. And I think if this were real, it would make that trucker a sain in such. Real selflessness. We all do our part. Or we tell our selves that. Would you have talked to that kid? I like to think we all would....
still means a lot this song, was also a kid when 1st heard this, still gets me emotional to listen to now, Respect to all the Truckers out there stay safe, :-)
i have loved this song . first time i ever listen to it i was only 14. and it made me cry and cry.now im in my 30s and it still makes me cry... and the song lil joe :( that ones really sad.

this was my grandfathers favorite song.......he passed away in 2005 of cancer and today would have been his birthday but ts also mine.......i was named after him and every year since he passed away i listen to this song on our birthday......it is a sad song but it meant alot to him.
@Oct22010miracle So sorry about your grandpa Bill, it's hard to lose someone you loved, really hard. He is in your heart and always will be. Happy Birthday to you!
i like this song it shows people how much others care and i also like teddy bears last ride, that song made me cry i have to turn it off when at college as i cry to it.
I remember listening to this with my Dad on his 8 track in the garage. i picked up a copy a few years ago to listen and it brought back all kinds of memories and a whole lot of tears. One of the real fun times with dad. What I would give to stick that 8 track back in and sit in the garage with Dad just one more time
If this doesnt give you a lump in your throat nothing will, as a result of this song a movie was made as the Child in this song would melt any persons heart
I was like 7 years old when i heard this song for the first time. i never knew what it was called or who sang it until last week. Ive listened to it everyday since. Such a beautiful song..

@Bullashe1, I agree!! This is a true southern heartfelt song that speaks of a little boy getting his wishes granted for him by a convoy of good down home country boys on 18 wheels. This song speaks of American life the way it should be. That comment about the boy getting ran over is just cruel... And people that feel that way about others ought to be out of this world.
@brokenhillcabbie You have to ask nhmomto4 but I'm sure it happened. In Germany we know that song in german language, too. And I know, the story is true here, too.
I had an experience like this once or twice out on the road. I didn't get to give the little boy a ride, but I talked to him as long as I could. When I put the fire in the wire, we must have talked for at least 30 miles. He was sick and said his daddy had died in a trucking accident. He just wanted one last ride.
My daddy is a truck driver and the first time i ever heard this song, i was about 7 and by the time it was over, i was bawling and telling my daddy how much i love him and how much i hate that his job takes him away from me all the time. im 15 now but i still love him to the ends of the earth and yes i still hate his job, but when he leaves for the week i always tell him be careful and comeback please and then i usually cry myself to sleep that night

i love this song. as a kid growing up i always wanted TO DRIVE TRUCK FOR MY DAD. but that over now because my dad died on valentines day in 2010. i miss my dad he was a U.S. MAIL contractor. he had the routes of 13042,13043 13044. i miss my pop this hurts

My and and I use to listen to truckin songs all the time. He was a van driver and a lot of the songs brought tears to his eyes, especially this. Sadly he lost ihis fight almost a month a go, dad this is for you.

Are you seeking truth? Search for "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then click on "The Present" to open it. What it says will blow your mind.
Was there not a video that came out with the same story within 10 years or so? I remember watching 1 on TV back then but can't remember if the title was Teddy Bear or not.
makes me think of my mom and dad they loved this song and i do to its a bad world out there it does they body good to here a song like this (a good deed goes a long way)
Just for kicks, everybody search for the Jackson Southernaires version of this song. Growing up listening to Gospel music on Sunday mornings, many folks only know this particular version. I personally like both.

Was there not a video that came out with the same story within 10 years or so? I remember watching 1 on TV back then but can't remember if the title was Teddy Bear or not.

Just for kicks, everybody search for the Jackson Southernaires version of this song. Growing up listening to Gospel music on Sunday mornings, many folks only know this particular version. I personally like both.
