You don't see that a lot these days.

Collector's items like you and me ...

    and the games people play.

  • Im not very good at english, im not from an english-talkling country so I dont understand all about this song but u all people say it is so true and such , it probably is but im just enjoying it anyway cuz it has a very good melody too

  • Still bloody true today...

  • One of the best songs ever written about mankind, and he delivers it so well. LOVE THIS!

  • I love this song, although I couldn't remember the song or the artist

  • 名曲だぁね☆

  • i heard this song off a tesla album

  • People who don't live in the south don't understand how deep the music runs.

God Bless you Joe South and all your amazing talent to this day.

  • he stole from lord george harrisons sound. these backward southerners. tha danelectro guitar stolen. i was of the times. these southerners throw termites to make one sell ones home they throw bricks thru windows. these okies slam jesus down yur throat. jesus.t

  • I like the words. We also play games like this song.

말만 번지르한 세상, 부조리와 불법이 판치는 세상, 가짜가 득세하는세상을

꼬집은 이곡은 70년대초반에 발표되었지만 지금도 그세상은 변함없다우

  • I want this song played at my funeral!

  • When i was kid in the 70's i had 1 of his albums with this song on it n i played it over n over n over again lol n guess what..... i finally remembered it n it's fresh in my head....great tune :))

  • By the way, Joe South was and is a devout Christian.

  • It is hard to miss the preoccupation with homsexuality by young men on utube. XSaint- Methink thou doth protest too much.

  • Am i the only 16 year old who absolutely adores this song?

  • @Tomzski No not at all but how many cool kids your age have heard this great song ?

  • This song hit's the nail right on the head! was, is and always will be an accurate description of the human race.

  • Hello all - I just heard an awesome re-release of this song on WFUV (90.7 in NY) by a new artist named LISA. Very different from Joe South - but a faithful rendition.

  • I just love this..............thank you for sharing such a great song!

  • I love this song!

  • Since the first time I heard this song I loved it , it's so true . Always enjoy it when I hear it today ,and the song fits today just as it did in 1969 !

  • Just sayin...

  • 28 villages have an APB out for their missing idiots!

  • The book "Games People Play" helped transform my life by making psychology

    understandable.

  • This man and I may have lived in two different worlds but we are so singing from the same songbook and I agree with him wholeheartedly in his beliefs. Thanks for sharing Tuks and Murphicus..

  • @delora33 < THANKS

  • so true today ,what a shame.

  • When my grandpa died, my dad played this song over and over again crying, this song has more than meaning to it, its the flat out truth. RIP W.D.S.

  • @xSaintxLuciferx77

sounds like your dad is a homosexual

  • @you2besux ..make fun of someone's pain...what an asshole

  • Listen to the words. They are a reflection of even today.

  • @MrTropics64 Ain't that the truth, brother....

  • @Krinthalas No Doubt...

  • This is another great song from the late 60's. Joe South was a great song writer. And a pretty decent guitarist too. Unlike Glen Campbell he wrote all of his own songs. No Jim Webb. Although I like Glen too. One of the best studio guitarists like Chet Atkins.

  • Stumbled upon this. Best stumble yet.

  • one all time great song love it like eye breath the air or saa laam awaa ley come

  • one great song for long time

  • I GREW UP LISTENING TO JOE SOUTH, HE WAS SO COOL.

THIS ISA GREAT SONG WAY AHEAD OF IT'S TIME/

    o yeah :D

  • what a good damn song

  • very good soing

  • very good

  • Love this great music that was in my time!

  • See Joe South with AVM in his personally authorized version of his hit song HUSH! Just search for AVM HUSH on You Tube. Joe plays his original guitar intro on the song he said "made the hair on the back of my neck stand up!" We love you Joe! Hope to see you again, soon! God Bless Ya!

  • Great post great upload and great artist.

  • Fantastisk!

  • i thought it was of inner circle

  • Maybe he was talking about all of the religious hypocrites that preach about the Bible, but are greedy, selfish and rotten really. Religion has done far more bad than good for the human race. Like John Lennon said, "Imagine there's no heaven."

  • @Jupiter2able You're another blind fool, whose all knowladge of Church is based on pedophile scandals. Don't your realise that Catholics have actually helped thousands of poor and ill people? Every week they rise money for family who can't provide their children with dinner or clean clothes? The problem is not if religion is good or bad... the problem is people who refuse to see good things, but only looking for another ocassion to kick somebody in the ass.

  • Nothing changes!

  • Perfect

  • Freedom is found in peace...

  • EPIC

  • First time I've heard of a book, and I remember when the song came out.

  • @dixie5pepper6 You're welcome :)

  • @dixie5pepper6 He's still around but doesn't seem to have done much for awhile, I don't know how well he rebounded from his brothers' suicide (the drummer for band)

I don't know how well anyony rebounds from that...

  • Just great, loved him then, love him now.

  • This one never get's old. It means as much to me today as it did way back when, maybe more. I just love the song.

  • yes susan it is still the truth.

  • TeslaFied version really makes the song speak to the ages, it sounds like a Demo the way South performs it, but he'd be proud of the Tesla take!

  • check out the version marc almond (soft cell) does. not bad.

  • I was looking for something else by him and accidentally clicked onto this video and it began playing before I scrolled down to the list of other videos to the side. I recognised the song so left it on... then looked to the title properly... no wonder I've just sat listening to the whole thing (even though I've found what I was looking for beforehand), I love the music from the 60's!

  • dick north was better

  • I had this LP when I was a kid and when Joe got to the bridge I could still hear the skip where my record had a scratch. I miss Joe. He was a one-of-a-kind.

  • The first time I heard this song was on a movie soundtrack. Great channel.

  • I love anton chigur er... i mean joe south!

  • 25 homos...

  • The tempo wobble in this song still drives me crazy when I listen to this song.

Maybe it's edits, maybe it's just bad playing but it is there. I thought Bill Lowery's studio was better than this.

If you don't hear it, then just keep moving.... It won't matter to you.

No, Jerry Reed did not play the guitar/sitar part on this track.

  • Love that Danelectro "electric sitar." Such a trademark Sixties sound. I had the pleasure of playing the one Steely Dan used on "Do it Again."

  • of all the songs I've listened too, I'm not sure any one song has more meaning than this one. this is priceless and Joe South was the only one who could pull this off with feeling.

  • @TheLadandLass I'd disagree because Tesla is a SING ALONG true band, true to the spirit of music, not just rock and hard rock. Ask singer Jeff Kieth. He's a very emotional guy. I'd point out the sitar guitar, unusual but used in many various recordings

  • Listen to this song often, read the analytical book "Games people play" read Body Language by Julius Fast. Listen to the song again and you will minimize the hurt to yourself all your life. You will be able to endure what is dished out to you, by others and emerge unscathed into your sunset years. Been there done that.

  • this is a timeless song with so much meaning and soul, too bad more peeps don't think about this...

  • Moses has decreed the game to be over... Kenny has agreed with Moses... For the official record- Smash is the Isaiah 62 dude and Kenny needs a male child... No future weddings necessary to fulfill scripture...

  • French version by Claude François.

  • Five years before Joe South wrote this song was a best-selling book by Eric Berne called The Games People Play, a self-help psychology book on human relationships . Excellent book.

It might have inspired Joe's song, maybe. Once in awhile a song comes along that actually means something - this is surely one of them.

  • @Blackgeoff1

A little bizarre that I was in the library yesterday and saw that book on the shelf and paged through it...

I've had this video up for 4 years and no one had ever mentioned the book!

    "Suzzallo/Allen Stacks AVAILABLE HM291 .B394"

  • @murphicus Listening to Joe is still a lot easier than reading the book. cheers

  • @murphicus Well, In Communications they talk about this Book, same title, and the concept he talks is called Transactional Analysis (TA), Strange we come to listen this song cos of the book, lol, one way or the other....we're here........... Nice Upload. Thanks

  • @Blackgeoff1 Especially '' People walkin' up to ya, and they try to sock it to ya in the name of the Lord''. I get those god botherers coming up all the time trying to convert me.

  • @lizichell2 Those people that you call 'god botherers' are the only people that give a crap about you and your soul. Everyone else just wants something from you for their own lusts. So, you have it backwards. Not everyone will let you know that you are headed for a lake of fire, or any other disaster, for that matter. They would rather you hit that wall or fall off that cliff so that they can find pleasure from your detriment as they laugh at the vdo they made and put on youtube within 15 min.

  • @Blackgeoff1 When he was talking about 'people... try to sock it to ya in the name of the Lord', he is talking about people coming to you 'in the name of the Lord' while pushing sorceries like reading horoscopes, future, etc. as if it was from God... which it is actually against God. He is talking about those who are claiming God, but really following Satan and their own lusts. This guy has been a friend of the family since I can remember and he DOES believe in God, the true God, and not fakers.

  • @frankndebois If you've never seen the hypocrisy in the practice and preaching of "Christianity" then you are either blind or lying. "'in the name of the Lord' - How many leaching TV preachers and faith healers to pedophiles can you count?

  • People who trash Christians, use the throwing stones as an excuse of their own fear, and to not have to admit your own inequities. (We all have them) Christians never claim to be perfect, we are learning everyday to what God expects of us, and probably will continue to sin, Only God corrects us, we are only human, We preach, because that is our responsibility, and again we are not perfect, only Jesus Christ was perfect. God deals with his people individually,. God Bless You Rock Throwers.

  • @Blackgeoff1 I remember the book. Read it several times. Prob need to read again! Great song!

  • I thought this was Boots Randolph I swear I thought my dad had had a 8 track by Boots oh well guess I was wrong

  • Perfect lyrics for the global warming crowd, eh?

  • I meet Joe South back in the 80's, he was doing an uplink at the PBS radio station I worked at...a country singer now...but I walked up and shook his hand...and told him how his music affected me thought-out the sixties.

    He was/is a true artist.

  • This song is as true now as it was then. Drop the facade, say what you mean and mean what you say....

  • how did this beat harry nilsson and "everybody's talkin'" for 1969 song of the year ???

  • @marksletters In your opinion.

  • Because Joe South better than Harry Nilsson. That's like asking "how is R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts better than Garry Glitter - Rock & Roll Party?

  • @marksletters Song of the Year is awarded to the songwriter, not the performer. Everybody's Talkin' wasn't nominated for Song of the Year. But if it had been and had won, the award would have gone to Fred Neil, the songwriter.

  • nice song

  • nice song

  • Had the thrill of meeting Joe South last night and hearing him sing this song live. He sat at our booth for the rest of the evening. Didn't know at that time how many other songs he's written. A very talented man!!!

  • 19chiefs57 Quite possibly a song that was written and sung

  • Quite possibly one of the best songs ever written.

  • so thats what happened to Mo from the three stooges :-)

  • I'm sorry but I have to say this: his haircut is horrifying in this clip. The song is great, as always. :D

  • @DeceasedDeath This was the haircut of the day--didn't you ever see it on the Beatles or Eric Burdon of the Animals?

  • as a teenager i listened to this song and at 54 it really rings true.

  • VERy Kool.....early 60's southern boy meets laugh- in meets indian mysticism....sock it to me Joe South...from oreo a new england boy!!

  • i want a coral sitar!

  • I can relate to @21susan59 i'm from the northern cheyenne reservation and you are so right...this a great song love it,love it,love it...

  • Is this the original ?

  • @MatBroadwayJunior91 HI, Yes, this is the original written by Joe South. Joe is a very warm, personable gentleman. Joe wrote numerous hit songs that many other artists recorded including Billy Joe Royal, Elvis Presley, Deep Purple, Lynn Anderson. AVM has most recently done his song 'Hush' with Joe's blessings. Joe actually played his original guitar riff at the beginning of the AVM version. We feel blessed to have the opportunity to work with this great songwriter!

  • Great song, great voice! If he would have done Rock, would prob be around , Great voice! Can U imagine it doing rock and roll? AHHHH yeah

  • My wife and i got married in 69 still married today. We were both in rock bands when we started dating. I miss playing and touring. This music never grows old. At 62 years old all i can say is ROCK AND ROLL FOREVER.

  • @stillrockinat61 Amen to that!

  • Hi Joe South Fans! See Joe South at the beginning of AVM's new 'Hush' video (posted on YouTube). Joe graced us by playing his original intro on our 2011 re-release of his classic! Joe says of AVM's version, "It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up!" Thank you, Joe. You are an amazing man! God Bless!

  • This was a hit back in the nice spring of 1969...when ''Aquarius/Let the sunshine in'' by the 5th Dimension was at #1 for 6 weeks....and ''Hair'' by the Cowsills...was at #2 same time...love those 2 songs!! After a very dreary winter..spring of 1969 was a huge relief.... BTW..this song title is not to be confused with the Fall 1975 hit by the 'Spinners'..in their own ''Games people play'....Maybe some of yous here heard THAT song as well......((nope- this is NOT ''Casey Kasem'' here--...))

  • Timeless Classic!

  • @Pedy1968 ~~~>If you were born in 1968..there are a lot of songs I love from this very time in 1968.... including these: ''Bend me, shape me'' by the 'American breed'.....''Green Tambourine'' by the Lemon Pipers....''Love is Blue'' by Paul Mauriat..... ''Susan'' by the Buckinghams.... ''Different Drum'' by the Stone Poneys((Linda Ronstadt))...and I love this one...''We can fly'' by the Cowsills...I have a lot more to list here..but can't fit them all in here on this single ''message''.....

  • Yes jesusmy King4Life. It is 42 years later. But what really has changed?

  • saw Sonny and Cher's version on they're show and wanted to hear the original... love them both!

  • @canEHdian46 ~~~>Do you have a favorite Sonny and Cher song? I like their summertime 1965 #1 song ''I got you babe''...and this time in 1988,...CHER hit solo with ''I've founf someone''.....and in 1999..''Believe'' ....making Cher the only one with at least one Top 10 hit in all stages of her decade ages from a teenager (('Bang Bang'...aged 19))to her 50s(('Believe'..at age 53))...!!!

  • "thinkin' about the things that might have been, and it's a dirty rotten shame.."

    so true.

  • Some of these games people play are dangerous like that Prick in Tuscon who should have his ass fried and Quick

  • @handinside Amen to that,

    brilliant song, true classic

  • For a white boy, he sure has some soul! I always thought he was black just listening on radio. Great song, great meaning ,then AAAND now.

  • good 45 sock too me....

  • 24 people don't know whats up.

  • The only version which can compete with this, though in a complete different style, is the one recorded by Dionne Warvick in gospel style. I have it in a cd but don't know how to post it as it seems unavailable here in the tube.

  • I met him in a guitar store in Georgia. I had never heard of him but my friends mom was a huge fan. He was a real cool laid back type dude.

  • brilliant song by an extremely talented american musician .

  • I enjoyed this song,thank-you for sharing.

  • "...................while they try to sock it to ya In the name of The Lord". It plays the same today as it did then.

  • @artfulpadre And don't forget my brother th send in your little seed offering to help keep this ministry on the air

  • so true to life

  • yeah cooooooooooooool joe

  • My mom used to play music from the 60´s for me when I grew up. Love this song.

  • God, you know a song is truly exceptional and amazing when it invokes emotions and a feeling in your heart that can physically feel. Brilliant song by a talented man.

  • Non-stop in D.C.

  • Almost brings a tear to your eye.

I was born in 69, but songs like this are ageless, they hold so much meaning, thankyou Joe.

  • I love this song but man could it have used some real drumming. I wish Joe South had had his own Jimmy Chamberlin, Chad Smith, or Kenny Aronoff.

  • did he change,d his outfit already?

  • I had not heard this song once since the DJ's stopped playing it. But someone did something.....................game playing...............and i typed in the whole first verse perfectly. Then i you tubed it and sang along with Joe South. Every word. Now that is a real classic song, when u go40 yrs without hearing the song and still remember every word. Thx Joe for writing this timeless song and ty for posting it on youtube.

  • un artista para siempre

  • 1969 ---2010 Ain't it still the truth ????

  • @21susan59 yes its very rue but it's now 2011;)

  • @21susan59 sure is, babe. pine ridge indian reservation, the people still tryin to keep their pride and self-respect, the seed of greed is everywhere...!

  • Sounding as good as when it was released...over 40 years ago

  • Viet Nam years Fort Riley Kansas, 2nd and 9th Cav, there were some good guys there, somewhere i bought this album for a $1.00 in the PX where have those days gone, great album

  • quesmark, I don't know about that, but he retired from the music business after his brother committed suicide. And lived on his royalties.

  • A "Raw Shock" test? LOL. Know far too many people that fit the verse before the last chorus series. Brilliant song for all time.

  • Great song, how many times have we gazed in an 8 x 10 lol.

  • still love this song

  • His sentiment probably was sincere, but was he conflicted by the music business?

  • Great , like the lyrics!

  • Petr Spalený: Podivny hry lidi !!! is better :-))

  • what a great song, wow.

  • Hey, I like this version.

  • As a kid, when this song came out, I thought he was singing about towers covered in ivy. So that's what I always pictured, in my mind. lol
