  • She blew the directors speech out of the water lol

  • goosebumps.

  • Wow, I'm a dude and this shit even got to me. WOW. So humble and elegant. I love the sincere way she spoke.

  • Brought me to tears.

  • Oh my.

  • 1:37

  • If she was a Ukrainian Chritsian survivor of the Ukrainian holocaust, they would have cut her off and pushed her gently off the stage -- but you know --- Hollywood blech

  • A most moving and heartfelt speech and when she talks about those who did not get the chance for a boring evening at home we should all be grateful for what we have even if it is very little as we all have life and freedom.

  • This grand lady speaks with beauty, truth & heartfelt eloquence shown at it's deepest level. Such a touching, refreshing & truly elegant departure from the Hollywood world of put-on & fakers. This is class as real as it gets.

  • i am 16 and this made me tear up..:(

  • every time i am having a day when nothing goes right , i watch this speech , and everything falls into perspective.

  • This Woman is Amazing. She will be coming to a nearby college in about a week. I can't wait to hear her speak in person. I am 14 years old.

  • The lady spoke from her heart with incredible depth.

  • Just so truly and exquisitely expressed by such a lovely and an extraordinary soul.

  • beautiful speech <3

  • "And the Oscar for Best Documentary S-short subject is awarded to...gotta get it open...and the Oscar goes to.."

    Classic Nicolas Cage.

  • an extraordinary woman.

  • MEMORABLE INDEED....

  • @ThePhantomRailroads What in God's name are you talking about?!!! That is thee most ignorant statement I've ever heard!! Their enemies now are as ruthless..no worse than the Germans were in WWII. What would you do? You hypocrite moron!! I suppose you would hand everything given to you by God over to those who want to destroy your family, your people? SHUT UP!!

  • What an incredible woman. The only sentiment from her words and in her heart, was for everybody other than herself to appreciate what they have, and to take joy in being allowed to share it with others. God bless her, and everyone who has been blessed to hear (and understand) what she spoke.

  • that is true...we are all winners.

  • The russian and ukranian people also sufered incredibly hardship because of the COMMUNIST, DON T EVER FORGET THAT .

THE nazism is already gone but you still see CHE GUEVARA T-SHIRT ,MOVIE ,etc portraying the red ideology like something good.

  • @yaris2012 dont forget the bushes, rockefellers, rosthchilds

  • @yaris2012 They will not be forgotten but even then there was something called "Pogroms" where Russian soldiers would come through Jewish villages and wipe them out in horrible ways. One Russian soldier put a gun in my Great Grandmother's mouth and shot her. Whatever century you may go to, Jews have suffered, used as an easy scapegoats. There will come a time.

  • i cried. OMG. GOD BLESS YOU mother.

  • what a beautiful and incredible woman!!! A crust of bread to survive another day meant more to her than an oscar...God bless this woman!!!!

  • My short story entitled "god went on holiday in 1936" didn't get published.

  • she really puts things into perspective.

who cares about having an expensive car or an enormous house? who cares about celebrities scandalous lives? what about all of the people who dont have homes nor food? how can we forget about them?

I know what i want to do with my life....my dreams are not about money or fame... they are about helping anyone who will let me help them.

im only in high school...but one day! one day i will make a difference. i hope there are many more who share my dream.

  • @hannaraven ...oh dear , the price of independent youf screams out solitudinal boredom.

  • Absolutely touching, all it takes is one instance for you to realize how fortunate you are and how the most precious things in life have come to be taken for granted. She was so sincere...

  • I will never forget Gerda or her "boring evening at home" speech; the most memorable moment of the night. The things we take for granted.

  • @smichelle65 ...Jews stick together and it shows.

  • @TheLordMilton They have one true god called MONEY

  • Funny how people make jokes about jews on this comment thread by perpetuating stereotypes...and its in fact this reinforcing of stereotypes that gave rise to Hitler and the holocaust in the first place...people, the killing of 50 million people in WW2...isn't that enough to show that hatrid and racism gets us nowhere?

  • @MickeyLove01 I'm sorry. When you work, you can be paid with fireworks ok because only the Jewish People like money. Pure ignorance!

  • The lady deserved a 24 hour standing ovation!

  • A spectacular intelligent human being with a beautiful soul who delivered the only Oscar acceptance speech that had depth rather than an attempt at self- aggrandizement.

  • The greatest Oscar acceptance speech ever..

  • Her speech brought tears to my eyes. I am so glad she lived to tell her story.

  • I stood up and clapped at the end of this YouTube video. That woman is incredible. I'm never look at a boring evening at home the same again.

  • I'm reading All but my life at school and everyone is always saying how gay it is. im the type of guy that never reads EVER but I love the book soo much. Probably the most interesting book ive ever read.

  • this made me cry..so touching

and what the fuck is wrong with the audience

  • the reason why indygo is were still haven't developed the other side of are brains to see thru all of it. were still kind of hairless apes trying to get along. we need to get rid of all the selfishness feelings

  • Forget not your history, lest you repeat it

  • the magic of a boring evening at home

  • Remember not your history!

  • after hearing this I'll have to say this weekend will be very boring for me and I'm gonna fucking enjoy it to the max

  • Best Document Sort Short Subject? Nicolas Cage is a moron. No talent at all.

  • A beautiful speech telling us all not to forget how lucky we are!

  • If they had cut her short, they would have missed one of the best Oscar moments of all time, describing one of the worst human moments of all time. Well said speech. I will never regret the magic of a boring evening at home.

  • This women spoke at my school. It was so sad :(

  • What a memorable speech...... A wounderful lady.........

I m so moved by her words.... n the dork who tried to pull her off the stage, she dnt even deserve to lick her feet........

I dont think she got a standing ovation or a loud applause for this...:(

And 38 dislikes for this !!! Do they have a heart.. I doubt!!!

  • Deaths during the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe:

    Camps 3,000,000 (up to)

    Shootings 1,300,000 (over)

    Privation 800,000 (over)

  • @qwertypoiu4321 There's way more than that. There's also children that were taken away from Jews. The disabled people. The Russian Jews. The Czech Jews. The Hungarian Jews. The Polish Jews. The list goes on.

    I'm not even Jewish.

  • the magic of a boring evening @ home <3

  • "the magic of a boring evening at home" i will never complain of being bored again.

  • Real benaughty brides are there **benaughtyman.info**

  • incredibly moving speech

  • This is greatest for you ** rockmycity.info **

  • I read her book. What an amazing story of survival and perseverance. Holocaust deniers will sadly live out their lives in ignorance. But, the truth shall live on. We would all be blessed if we never see such a travesty ever again. But, alas, Islamic extremists are the reincarnation of Nazi Germany...persecution of Jews, Christians, women, etc. May God or Allah have mercy on them, for I do not.

  • the joy of freedom....

  • Holocaust deniers should see this speech, just because it puts everything in perspective.

  • I cry when ever i hear her speeches. Because i know what she went through. Gerda Weissmann shal forevr be rembered

  • tremendous.

  • I REALLY hope that got a standing ovation. WOW!

  • @JediGoddessChristy Sadly it did not.

  • Oh my god...it's Frankenstein's Munster!!!

  • I was feeling bored and a little down but after seeing this speech it has put everything into perspective and made me realize how grateful i should be that i have food to eat,a bed to sleep in and freedom, not only physical freedom but freedom from fear and freedom from prejudice. I can't believe this has 33 dislikes, if this speech does'nt move you in some way then you can't be human..

  • ...BEAUTIFUL! thank you for sharing this with us! :-)

  • I just finished reading her "All But My Life". Gerda Weissman, you inspire me and you deserve this Oscar Award.

  • I just finished reading her "All But My Life" Gerda Weissman, you inspire me and you deserve this Oscar Award.

  • I'm in tears.

  • to think, we almost didn't even get the chance to hear her speak. that bitch tried to move her along after the guy finished speaking once the music started playing.

  • Yeah, audience. Go right ahead and stay seated. It's not like a very inspirational woman is reaching the stairs and stepping up to the pedestal or anything.

  • Wow. Not a speech but a call to humanity.

  • put the fancy pants glitz and glam acceptance speeches in the shadow, well done Gerda!

  • Black people in Germany during the Nazi regime: the Gestapo had secretly rounded up and forcibly sterilized many of them. Some were subjected to medical experiments; others mysteriously disappeared. European and American blacks were also interned in the Nazi concentration camp system.

  • What a magic and humble speech, what a great message, what lovely things to say!

  • What a magnificient lady. What a poetic way to put things into perspective. There she is saying that winning meant "a crust of bread and to live another day" while the people sitting in front of them may have never missed a meal. If they had the tiniest sense of decency, they felt ashamed of coveting the oscar when some people all they want is a piece of bread or a hug. Well done Gerda! It would have been horrible to have missed her well thought out and eloquent speech.

  • holofaux

  • this was amazing, i loved it!!!!!! but who is this lovely lady, im sorry i have never seen her!

  • @chocolantrosa She's a Holocaust Survivor. She's written many books (such as All But My Life) and she tells you about her experience through the camps and such. She's also a public speaker who goes from school to school talking about the Holocaust. Gerda is an amazing woman.

I was fortunate enough to have her visit my school just last year:)

  • I adore that they didn't interupted her with the music. That is a show of respect and honor for sure!!!!

  • Yes, but it looked as if that woman in the background wanted to get her off the stage. WTF?

  • to say it bluntly that was freakin beautiful

  • This is a lesson to all those crazy acceptance speeches by the spoiled holywood "actors and actresses" !!!

  • I think this speech says it all. I love the part when she said that winning meant a crust of bread and to live another day.

  • Wow, that was so moving. Her wisdom is an inspiration, truly.

  • What a dignified & inspirational speech

  • She Came to my school, she was a wonderful person.

  • Maybe Mr. Cage was nervous? Give him a break.

Once Ms. Klein began to speak, nobody tried to stop her.

So many of you are so harsh. Listen to Ms. Klein and enjoy your freedom to have a boring evening at home.

  • She brought tears to my eyes. What an amazing speech and what an amazing woman.

  • Hollywood has never had any qualms about making money off of death and tragedy. I was afraid they would make a mockery of this woman by exploiting her but she is very genuine. I think she was aware that there is a touch of exploitation of her story and that she did not want to be a part of exploiting those that died. She steered a very good and true course. She honored those that died instead of exploiting them. She brought the oscars down to earth for a moment

  • I got to see her speak at my school. She is amazing

  • She made me cry!

WORDS TO REMEMBER, WORDS TO LIVE BY!!

  • Her words resemble Primo Levi's:" Se questo è un uomo" at the beginning of the book.

  • susan boyle?!

  • @lysander1 fuck you! she's so inspirational! go to hell.

  • WOW and the assholes trying to yank her off the stage jeez

  • @AnnaSarahBanana I know right?! WTF?! That reminds me of the time when Frank Sinatra was getting his lifetime achievement award at the Grammys, they played music to hurry up his speech and started to shove him offstage!

  • In Soviet Russia, Oscar gives speech.

  • @HiSToRiKL She's not Russian, Reddittor.

  • WOW!

  • Wow, Nicolas Cage absolutely sucks at announcing things at the Oscars. In fact, he sucks at everything.

  • @gingerbreadcorpses If he has a good script he can do well

  • Now there should be an Award show every year that only give's recognition to genuine people like this, Now that's a show I would absolutely watch.

  • Thanks for sharing this video. It's a good reminder.

  • I have tears pouring down my face. What an incredible woman.

  • I just hope what the jews have been thru, no one in this world has to go thru again, not muslims not anyone..cos everyone is a human being, created by god, by the same god, that u and he worships..

  • @majesticmaniac Yeah, that sounds good, but that kind of "let's all coexist" schmaltsy schmarmy crap only works when everyone thinks the same way. The fact is that they don't, the moslems proclaim they will kill and enslave us. It is in the Koran as plain as Hitler stated he would kill the Jews in his book. To say one is against war is meaningless, what you are really saying is you are against defending ourselves. I think America is worth defending, we have enemies, our job is to kill them

  • @majesticmaniac Educate yourself please. The holocaust in Rwanda, Genocide in Darfur, The killing of infants in Congo as I type this...It is STILL happening to this day, we are all humans, let's not trivialize what is going on Today. History IS repeating itself. Look at what's happening to Ethiopian women in Israel with long term birth control that affect their chances of giving birth. That is a crime against humanity that is being performed right before our eyes.

  • @jhkl123456 You cant compare people killing each other with machetes to the industiralized sophisticated slaughter of the Jews. The contradiction of such advanced technology and such backward ideas is what makes the holocaust so unique.

  • @majesticmaniac Well aren't you just a wonderful person, gee what a wonderful thing to say, oh isn't he so wonderful everybody, oh what a wonderful nice person. And how incredibly STUPID . The MOSLEMS are the ones going around and killing people, who cares if they are human beings, if someone threatens your life and country then you deal with them accordingly. No one can sort them out as to which ones will act next, that's the game they are playing 4 fools like U ! The whole lot goes!

  • @Indygoguy Its truly amazing how ignorance always prevails. Why is history always doomed to repeat itself? We as human beings should know better.

  • @Indygoguy what's a 'moslem'?

  • @majesticmaniac Cheers to that.

  • @majesticmaniac It's highly unlikely a god exists but I heartly agree that no human being should ever again experience what the Jews did in WW2 which was caused purely out of ignorance. Maybe one day humans will learn to live together in peace but somehow I doubt it. At least not until the nonsense of religion has been eradicated from the planet. Then, perhaps, there is a hope.

  • @OneAtheist1There is a famous story of a Rabbi who was with an artist. The Rabbi asked the artist to leave and painted a beautiful picture. When the artist returned he asked who painted such a beautiful picture? The Rabbi said he doesn't know. He knocked over the paints and a beautiful picture appeared. The artist laughed and the Rabbi said so to is this beautiful world created by the one above! It didn't happen by accident!

  • we dont need people like you in the world. go pray your atheism to somewhere else

  • sweet lord...

  • wow....

  • @Shipoopi494 It's dumb brunette time..and she would have been told to do it. I'd bet she had NO idea who Gerda was.

  • i respesct her a lot....love u madam

  • ....oh my god....

  • Gerda Weissmann Klein may not have been an A-list movie star, but she gave the most memorable and moving Oscar acceptance speeche I've ever seen.

  • waaaah She always makes me cry ;_;

  • I remember this sooooo long ago, that was very insparational...especially all of us who get bored at home on a weekd...and the fact that we can go in and out and have bread in our house, thank's for uploading this speech.

  • I wish Nicholas Cage had been absolutely no part of this.

  • @TeeAreify you are truly an imbecile.

your personal prejudice against one man robbed you of the priviledge to hear and appreciate a truly honest and memorable speech.

  • I saw the documentary that won this oscar on our PBS station. I bought the video and although i don't watch it often, I wish everyone could see it. It is so moving and leaves one with so much to think about. Her father saved her life by making her wear good shoes and a guard also saved her life, as I recall, I haven't seen it for years now. It makes one wonder what we can or would do in trying times. I was suprised to find this on YouTube since I have search for this speech in earlier years.10*s

  • Bahhh bum bah bah bah bum bum bahhhh LOL I want that to be my theme music.

  • Wow! I'm so glad that the Oscar folks did NOT get the chance to shuffle her off the stage before her moment. What a profound and heartfelt message we would have missed!

  • @1sababoy A better speech than hundreds I have heard over the years.

  • It seems that Susan Boyle has the same hairdresser as Gerda.

  • She didn't need a piece of paper to deliver a genuine heart warming speech.

  • I got to meet her today! I was in the front row and shed a tear... it was very sad but amazing to see.

  • I met her today =)

  • wow. i shed a tear.

  • Simply beautiful and eloquent

  • nice of Kary Antholis to leave some time for Gerda Weissmann Klein to talk...

  • there has been so many holocaust movies.... but not many about the gulag survivors....

  • that was actually really sincere and touching

  • I can recall this moment...in time and a tear in my heart that beckons to remember in time gone from now...but eckos to me and all of us...to Honor those winter days..frozen,Hungry, and starving ...tears and sorrow....but always hope...The earth and dust is a testament to our love and our cruilty...and when i walk ...every step is a reminder to those that history has lost....but time remembers.

  • Was the speech written by Steven Spielberg?

  • @TheWhitehall No wtf?

  • What an amazing woman.

  • @FreshMount What are you even rambling about? The Holocaust wasn't even just about the Jews you incredible ass.

  • The magic of a boring evening at home.

    So beautiful..

  • shits on all Oscar speeches of today

  • Wow I wonder if that was off the cuff or a prepared speech either way it was beautiful.

  • I read her book for school and watched the documentary. She is an amazing person!

  • I need to see this movie

  • I watched it in English class. Completely moving.

  • Gerda is such an amazing person. I had the chance to meet her at my middle school last year and help launch her new program for schools called Citizenship Counts. She was so nice. She has inspired me so much then and still does. I can't begin to imaging what it had been like. She definitely was apart of the Greatest Generation.

  • @MonkeyLikesGum I agree. Those who fought and lived during that time, were indeed a great generation. I can't imagine the horror they went through. I wish I had been able to meet this lady. She reminds us what we've been taking for granted for too long. And.. that was THE most eloquent speech I have ever heard, by anyone in my entire life.

  • I feel very touched to have been able to see Gerda Weissmann speak today at my school. What a powerful and insparational women she is!

  • @Brandotuomikoski i agree 100%!

  • You must go to Westside. I saw her too, really, really great speaker. She was so humble, did you see how she gave a rose to her family, and one to Mr. Preister after he gave them to her? What a great woman.

  • @Brandotuomikoski she spoke to yall 2 holocaust survivors talked to us

  • @Brandotuomikoski wow im jelous!

  • She brings tears too my eyes.

  • what a humbling speech. what a woman.

  • one of the best oscar speeches ever.

  • @moonflower0924 <3 ...i agree wholeheartedly... <3

  • Just after this Miep Gies appeared on stage, I wish the academy would show this. She found Anne Frank's diary on the floor. RIP Miep Gies and for the contribution you made to fight evil in this world.

  • Freedom from religion, not from god, is the only way for world peace

  • well said

  • Imagine being Robin Williams and you have to follow that speech? Don't get me wrong, great and moving speech, but holy shit that was heavy.

  • @hsmfan86 I want to read that book.

  • Freedom for all for Jews for Palestinians for Every one.

    We all deserve Freedom.

  • that was so touching. and i actually read her book for a school project & at first i was like "oh great another holocaust story..." but this one was extremely addicting and i shed so many tears. my life has changed forever because of this woman.

  • ugh!

  • read her book "All But My Life" by Gerda Weissman Klein. You will never be the same.

  • Wow....that was so touching.

  • @mainhoondon21

Too bad it's all a sham.

  • Quite frankly the best speech given at any awards show.
