So, not knowing what I was doing, and having a tree somewhat in the way, as I brought the whip over, it caught on a branch. Naturally, I yanked and, the branch snapped off. The second time it happened, I yanked and ripped the cracker off. I was just about to call you when I remembered seeing your how to attach a cracker video and thought to look for a how to make a cracker. Thanks for having it.
no problem...the two whips i described are constructed like this:
single belly whip: core, then eight strand belly, then twelve strand final overlay (the outside part you see as the finished whip)
double belly whip: core, then eight strand belly, then twelve strand second belly, then sixteen strand final overlay.
the cool thing about nylon paracord is that it moves like its leather counterpart, but requires little maintenance and some common sense to prevent wear and tear.
there are a couple of things that i have to address with the question before i can give you an answer...first is that i use paracord for the whips that i make...that being said the minimum number of strands that you can use to produce a decent whip is twelve strands due to the fact that all the cord is the same width.
with that in mind, i charge 14$ per foot for single belly whips plus shipping(core and two layers) and 16 per foot for dual-belly whips (core and 3 layers)
I've seen a few videos regarding crackers,
is it better, meaning what makes a louder crack, a thinner cracker
or a more dense one?
meaning using a single strand of nylon #18 mason line vs 1/3 of such strand of mason line

So double belly us better?
gabrielfamilathe 2 years ago
yeah it sure is...it's a density thing...the more dense the whip is the longer it will hold up under use....years really.
you'll find that this is a common construction method with any quality whip.
hope this helps.
