I had the honor of being at this game in section 333 Row K seat 5, my season ticket. IMHO, the greatest hockey game I have ever seen in my life! For pure hockey, this game was BETTER than Game 7 in 94 Vs the Canucks.. Howie's call is one for the ages. Howie was a lifelong Ranger fan, and that is the call of a FAN as much as it was a call by a play by play guy...
Ahhh such a great moment in Rangers history. I was 8 years old when this happend and i can still rember it, it will never get old. Rangers are starting to look good again this year. Hopefully they can win another championship in the comming years.
Devils fans were heart broken, but they have nothing to be ashamed of... both teams were winners in that series. But no one was more of a winner then the sport of hockey and the fans of hockey. And not only that, but the Devils won 3 Stanley cups right after that, 1995, 2000, and 2003.
MVPs?
No, NOT BRODEUR, WHAT?
1995: Claude Lemieux (He was scoring goals that Grinders never were meant to score)
2000: Scott Stevens
2003: JS Gigeure of the Ducks, because he was a BEAST IN NET.
@SVR09Legends If it were not for you losers constantly talking about this as if it were the next coming of Jesus Christ himself people would have forgotten it completely by now.
@BrittaanyBanks It's called new york pride my dude. Regardless if you lose or win we'll always think about the good times and hope that we'll have another one :P... just stick with your team and we'll stick with ours m'kay
@BrittaanyBanks i dont like to start shit online but what have the devils done since 03? besides bring back the same people over and over and try to keep reliving something? but ur right we will live in the shadow of firing the head coach with 3 and 8 games left, Kovalchuk's 17-year contract (beating out dipietro ha!!) and btw how many people do u hear raving about the devils prospects? in the area rangers and isles prospects r light years better and once brodeur is gone ur in trouble
@JJJerryrum As opposed to throwing 8 million dollars a year at players like Bobby Holik and Scott Gomez that shit the bed on the Raggots? You making fun of ANY other teams front office decisions when the Raggots are the kings of shit moves makes your fan base look even more moronic then they usually do. Kudos.
@BrittaanyBanks true we have made bad moves but at the time gomez was a great player and u fail to mention that we werent the only team throwing that kinda money at him and as for holik the devils signed him 4 years after we did!!!! plus hows the devils prospects lookin? u fail to awnser my question on that one anyone would take the rangers prospects over the devils plus once again when brodeur retires ur screwed btw how did that 4 year 20 million dollar deal for a 35 yr old rolston work out?
@BrittaanyBanks Despite your profane way of stating things, your point WAS correct, until about 3 years ago when the Rangers stopped throwing money at overpriced vets, and started building from within, they are now one of leagues youngest teams (with an avg. age of about 27) and have one of the top scouting and player development machines in the NHL. Certainly better than NJ, who do not have many top prospects in Jr's or the minors, NYR also turned Gomez into McDonagh, win-win!
if this was the Double O/T Game 7 Stanley Cup Final can you imagine how balistic he'd of gone he went mad GETTING to the stanley cup final that commentators box would if that happen when they WON.....
I was in a bar -packed with all my friends in my hometown, when the puck went in we ajumped on eachother ,screaming and smiling--beer went EVERYWHERE! That moment and Bucky Dent's HR in Boston are my 2 most memorable sports moments-and as a lifelong New Yorker,I have seen ALOT!!!!
Ugh, this still hurts to watch, although the Devils have had much better success since that season than NY and I guess in hindsight I can say NY had an awesome team that year and deserved it, but still... hard way to lose that way.
I was there in section 333. One of the greatest moments of my life. By far the greatest hockey game I ever saw. In terms of pure hockey, it was better than game 7 against Vancouver.
ironic how the announcer who called this is howie rose, who is the present New York ISLANDERS televison play by play commentator. but wat a great call
This is still the worst moment of my life. The Devils have won three Cups while only missing the playoffs twice since this and I'd trade them all in. I was 14 when this happened and living in Westchester County ... I was the only fucking Devils fan any of these people knew and they were relentless.
This brings back so many good ol memories hahahahahaha. Matteau, Matteau, Matteau!! The whole city of NY was going crazy that yr. I was like 12 back then watching this at home with my brother I remember and he is a devils fan. I was jumping for joy and laughing at him. He was so frustrated and didn't want to talk about it hahahahahaha. Those were good ol memories that will never be forgotten. Now the rangers need to start rebuilding right if they want to win another cup like this one.
I was pretty young when this happened, but I'm so glad they could win it all so my grandfather could actually witness a Ranger championship before he died two years later.
the best thing about ranger videos is the immaturity of the devil fans, are they all 12 years old or something?they seem to not be able to understand its a business and trades are made, sometimes they work out, sometimes they dont.
brodeur brilliance again..how about coach lemaire and ottawa's alex kovalev...
all again with a 2010 playoff chance..
though almost NOTHING matches this moment in nryrangers fans history....every ranger fan remembers where they were that night.
me,,,i was in Toronto with a nother ranger fan,,,a blind gentlement,,,we wouldnt leave a restraunt til it was over,,,then we acted like foolish little kids...rolling around and jumping like crazy,
@mrceebees14 You must be a VERY bitter and jealous hockeyfan, because whenever i go see a Ranger video, your stupid comments are there. Get a life or end it. I don't care.
what the hell are you smoking Matteau plays for the rangers and idk if he ever played for the Oilers and explain this. "AND THE RANGERS HAVE ONE MORE HILL TO CLIMB BABY"
okay now i must be missing something here but what is it he says at the end...I thought it might be this but im not sure. ONE MORE HILL TO CLIMB BABY....GUNNA SMURF VANCOUVER or maybe GUNNA STUMP VANCOUVER
Matteau! Matteau! Matteau! Great call! Sounds like he hurt himself on that call! MY TOE! MY TOE! MY TOE! LMAO! This is one of the best calls in sports history!

What has your team done since then? Fucking nothing. Have fun continuing to reside in the shadow of the Devils.
