I was 19 when I took Celexa. It completely destroyed my sex drive and ability to perform. I'm now 23, off the drugs, and unable to have sex the majority of the time. I fucking hate my life. I fucking hate the doctor I went to, because I realize it was all just a scheme to get my money. My doctor didn't even try to contact me when I stopped going to my appointments. She didn't give a shit.

I was prescribed Risperidone and I am not psychotic. I tried to kill myself because no doctor has yet to cure me of my chronic testicular pain. My life is ruined because of this and because I don't want to just live with it I am labeled psychotic. Psych wards are crap. They dismiss you and blow off anything you say and yet you are supposed to walk out of there valuing yourself...

While i agree that Pharmaceuticals are not the answer i do think that Psychology is beneficial. I think alot of things that you would be prescribed psychiatric drugs for are actually normal behaviors. I also believe that the best way to deal with problems is to find the root cause (usually from childhood) instead of dealing with the surface symptoms using drugs. Learned behaviors can be unlearned in my opnion. Either way Big Pharma is a Big Rackett!

psychology and psychiatry is not a conspiracy. the disorders are real but that does not change the fact that it is near impossible to effectively diagnose and treat them without doing more damage than is already done. most psych wards paint a pretty picture for outsiders but once you are in they basically turn you into a zombie. you are far better of trying alternate methods than losing weeks, months, or even years of your life based on a 20-30 minute interview. same with outpatient perscription

Of course these behaviors are not normal but why is it psychiatrist have the authority to determine what mental illness is? They don't use the scientific method.

Glad you do see psychiatric hospitals as a place where you get harmed though. I suggest you do more reading and watch more documentaries.

And even if you are not, are you saying that we can always control these imbalances by using non-medical/chemical routes of healing? People need to pay attention to test they give too. SSI sent me to psychological testing . Apointment lasted 2 minutes after i called the dr. on coraling toward depression in the test . Never had to take it and one my case . woot !

I know people who completely recovered from a so called psychiatric illness without psychiatry. In fact, they are the only people who I know who have recovered but you never hear about them because they don't dentify with such labels.

So called psychiatric patients mostly see themselves as patients who can never recover. That's what they tell you in the system and when you here it often enough, you will believe it.

As soembody that works closely with psychaitric patients, and a survivor of suicidal attempts, I have a very interesting perspective. What they say, that there is not test, is very true. Its very introspective, you behave in a certain way, thats the test, thats the symptom. You can't sleep, thats a symptom, your not hungry, you can't concentrate etc. Its not full proof, but neither is anything. I've had reactions from antibiotics before... every drug we take alters our chemistry.

@Flerg3 I did go off effexor and wellbutrin cold turkey (about a year ago). I'm not saying that I recommend you do it this way but they don't have you by the balls as you say. I did get withdrawal symptoms for about 3-4 days: lightheaded (sort of when you have cold), tremors...but to be honest, I feel a lot better now that I stopped those pills. I suggest you go at it gradually (if you feel you are no longer depressed).

I'm sorry but this is quite bias, the problem in psychiatry is the system, not the biological basis of psychiatric disorders. And btw there ARE tests for psychiatric disorders. For example, schizophrenia, there is PROVEN basis for this disorder in the brain which can be obtained through MRI brain scans.

It seems we all have a habit out of "making sense" out of what psychiatrist tell us. For example when we hear the words "chemical imbalance". We automatically think about chemicals in our brains going "out of whack". It seems to give us a sense of understanding of why people suffer from mental problems. However even if there really was chemical imbalances in our brains. Psychiatry has yet to prove anything. And anyone smart enough to watch these videos could easily tell they are lying.
