I just finished the 4th CD of that show. Its called "New Getter Robo" (2004) Turns out the Getter Rays came from Hell and beyond, some Gods are trying to destroy the Getter bc they say its sinful to put a "Soul inside a Doll", so the Getter soul and the souls of the pilots all kinda merge into one thing.
@Gloomshadow100 Yeah man I know, I've got the DVD set here (found at a shop for $50) its a great series, i love the animosity between the pilots it seems like a completely different take on them.
If you watch Shin Getter Robo Vs. Neo Getter Robo its good story too, new piliots with the original.
@KirkysWorld yeah, I read up on that show and they say its the closest to the manga that you can pretty much get.. Getter Robo and Getter Robo G had stroy continuity but they had to clean if up for family veiwing.. in the manga that predated the TV shows, the Getter Pilots were chosen for thier "Darkside energy" or "Yin Force"..training didnt matter, the Getter handled all that, they just jumped right in the cockpit without any training, none needed..just fighting sprit. ( very Eastern idea)
the other thing I wanted to say is that this is not the 70s Getter. This is a newer robot. If you put the 70s Getter next to yours you will alot of differences. Its a different face, different head, different wing, the first robot was taller and slimmer. Its not the same Getter 1, its a later model.
Good spot, I realised after this was posted initially, I should have made a comparrison not said it was directly like the 70's Getter. Its the Getter Robo version from the Armaggedon box set you can get on DVD.
It is in the likeness of the original, as is the otehr one I will review soon (star Dragon)
@KirkysWorld that series got kinda complicated in terms of Getter robots, the base had a whole Getter graveyard underneath it of old retired Getters and also a bunch of Training robots that were white and blue, Im all that sure if they all could even transform or not. Some would just appear in a film and get blown up in seconds. They werent all the same and they had alot of those robots in that base.
@Gloomshadow100 Are we talking same series? I believe this Getter I reviewed is the mass one used by Ryoma to battle the mass production Getter Robo G's
@KirkysWorld yeah it is, but I havent seen "Armageddon" yet. They had the Getter Graveyard in "New Getter Robo" or "Shin Getter Robo" depending on where the DVD came from. But yeah, thats the one that fought the mass produciton Getters. Then there is the Black Getter, its like that one but has a different face.. then they got the Black Shin Getter.. they got so many of them.
@KirkysWorld I got it from Netflix under the name "New Getter Robo" but like you said its confusing bc Ive also heard it called "Shin (New) Getter Robo".. it came out in 1998 and they showed the Getter Graveyard under the base, Getter energy leaking out of a big pile of "Getter Robo G" eara Posiden robots with Getter 1s thrown in for good measure. They give some hints that Getter Rays may be coming from "Hell" in a parallel dimension. They keep giving hints that Getter rays arent a good thing.
Thats a great Getter but I have two points of contention with your video. The US versions werent "rip-offs" they were licensed products. We had censorship problems in the US back in the 70s-80s when it came to cartoons. The originals could not pass censorship due to violent and sexual content so entire seasons of Getter were cut apart to make little 2hr movies and other series. They were considered too violent for children at that time and the networks had their own products to sell.
In all honesty it is just my opinion, I first watched this series based of the 5 that were dubbed/edited for Western viewing.
I think its a bit hit and miss with these series when they take the risk of doing this sort of thing, Robotech by harmoney gold was a bit better done.
@KirkysWorld the US verisons SUCKED! But they werent "bootlegs" they were actually licensed products. This was even before VHS was around..its all we could really get our hands on until later. I was lucky, we had a local Japanese-American channel on UHF22 so I could watch Getter Robo G in its origianl Japanese form ( couldnt understand it though no subs!)

@Gloomshadow100 It does get kind of confusing as there are so many series, you mean Shin Getter Vs Neo Getter Robo?

Gotta love Heats. And that they rehashed a part of it in the Song Storm rhythm wise.
