@grantytyta I remember some commentator saying that no white person (in a way) would do half a marathon in under 1 hour, looks like the dick was wrong. It is the type of training the Kenjas do, like training altitude. Paula Radcliffe proved this to be the case when she started to train on high land. Gives them a distinct advantage.
I am back in training after a 6 months lay off and this is my fifth week. My last race was a 5k in 20.43 as a master runner a year back. I have lost 20 pounds and starting to feel great. I hope to get in racing shape pretty soon. Thanks for this video. Truly inspiring.
I run 90 to 130 km each week and when when it's tough I think to Ryan and I'm wandering if some days it becomes hard and if he falls, twist his ankles... is it every day as easy as it looks like for him ?
When you running this fast, and your in front nothing will stop you...you feel amazing like your in a trance. When he picks up the water and throws it on his head, his legs do not slow down, nothing will impare his motion and rhythm. That feeling is amazing only a few really know it.
@Ted2864 Now, I open a second YouTube screen, put Coldplay Viva La Vida and start this video at 5:17 and at least capture some of the old feeling - can't get enough of this video.
@mm5326 O.K., this is kinda fun...try it again at 5:20, and he will pop around the corner on the first "RULE the.." and it especially feels right because at 7:58, he says "I know St. Peter..." as he passes the camera!
(I guess I just feel better now knowing that I'm not the only one out here.. Thanks
It's a sad day when we have to worry about lawsuits and copyright issues - this video needs the original audio track back, without which it's simply not the same.
@mm5326 This used to be my absolute favorite motivational video. I've watched it a hundred times and have those songs in my head when I run because of this video....Youtube SUCKS because of stuff like this. SUCKS.
@Ted2864 open this youtube video in a new window youtube.com/watch?v=Ty0u1PzXfTo at the same time you are playing this one and you should get the same effect
Houston to London MEN 1. Mo Trafeh, 1:02:17 2. Ryan Hall, 1:02:20 3. Patrick Smyth, 1:02:32 4. Fasil Bizuneh, 1:02:47 5. Jason Lehmkuhle, 1:02:49 WOMEN 1. Jen Rhines, 1:11:14 2. Serena Burla, 1:11:38 3. Nan Kennard, 1:12:03 4. Katie McGregor, 1:12:12 5. Tera Moody, 1:12:30
Dream of every runner is to run like Ryan Hall - thanks for an inspiring video, it is like watching a dream that we can play over and over and never get tired of.
@FourSeasonRunner Like you said it's all about training,Africans athletes train on high altitude mountains paths, where the air is poor in oxygen, sometime shoeless, welcomed by 40 degrees Celsius and a high rate of relative humidity
I watch this video before I for my long distance run on Saturday mornings. It keeps me motivated for 13 miles, hopefully 15 next week. In the process of training for NYC 2010 Marathon. Remember it's 90 % mental and 10 physical. Wish me luck!
@Brizbags: It is NOT 90% mental and 10% physical. To say that completely demeans and undermines the extreme training that elite athletes undergo; of intensity that you will never realize. It insinuates that a weekend warrior like yourself could possibly will yourself to be this fast. Trust me, you can't. It is more like 95% physical and 5% mental.
some great distance runners are born, others are made. one CAN train, and become amazing just like ryan hall. one simply has to put in the time, blood, sweat, and tears. however, most don't have the willpower to try and go to such lengths. and these runners would most likely agree that it is 90% mental, because they push through the pain that most "normal" runners are too afraid to experience, and don't want to experience. that's how you come across such great runners as hall & cox
@wookiegamemaster You have to have potential to be this great though. For instance, staying injury free is my biggest problem and my form is crap compared to Ryan's. The normal runner CAN NOT become Ryan Hall. It isn't because they're afraid of pain. Runners in general are stronger mentally than other athletes.

fun fact, apparently ryan hall's first flight got delayed or something, and he was running on 3 hours of sleep... probably the best race of his life so far
I love how at the water stop around 6:00. No one thinks he's in the race. They're on the sidelines Bullshittin and then the guy in blue does a neck-breaker and is caught off guard classic!
@eolsonXC dude your freaking Erik Olson thats crazy. < that guy 13:59 as a freshmen. I saw a video by eolsonXC and I was like "wouldnt that be funny if it were Erik" and it was <3
