@wocko1 I use a first-gen MT-32. Some of the older Sierra games abuse bugs in the first-gen MT-32 to create special sounds, which won't work right on newer ones. The only game that's given me any trouble is Day of the Tentacle where the music very occasionally hangs.
Sorry for the back to back comment but I managed to find an Emulator for the MT 32. It makes the music way better but it's not perfect yours sounds better still,
@ryan489 That's because I'm using a real, hardware MT-32. :) If you get lucky you can find one on some place like eBay for not too much (that's how I got mine). The MT-32 emulator (I'm assuming you're talking about Munt) is okay, but not very good compared to the real thing.
What version of that synthesizer are you using and where can I get it.. I have the 2006 Police Quest collection, the music sounds good but yours just sounds ten times better, I might even have the synth on my computer I could experiment with the settings too. Again that music kicks ass. do you ever mention the composer being Jan Hammer?
The elevator and Sonnys office share the same place.
Alright that the elevator and door outside don't really make sense, I can blame that on perspective problems. But when his office is has more room to the left of where you enter (the direction of the elevator and hallway) than to the right where no visible rooms are, since he has the only door in the corridor. I have to point it out.
i am so going to try out my new soundfont banks on this tune

The stabs remind me of the Gabriel Knight theme - the version in Sins of the Father.

The music sounds amazing. Too bad they wrote it for the MT-32.

Sonny actually starts out with his wallet in his pocket, not a glove box or desk drawer, blasphemy!

Do you use a first gen MT-32? It's the one without the headphones jack on the back. I heard they have a lot of dramas with some DOS games.
I personally use an MT-100 (which is a second gen MT-32 with a sequencer built in)

Totally forgot the music for PQ 3 was done by Jan Hammer who did music for Miami Vice especially the classic "Crocketts Theme"

I had this on the Amiga, it had a 14 rating I think, didn't get far, got killed at a lake or something.

I wish Sonny Bonds would have been in the police quest's after 3.
I had no motivation to play police quest 4 or any of the swat games because Sonny wasn't starring.
