Simon, I think you make a fair point - and being a fan of both Coogan and Gervais - I often compare them and wonder if Coogan could be a bit edgier and less hackneyed.

But to be fair, I think Coogans "era" had a different dynamic and his hunour was "of it's time".

I think a more "modern" Coogan would be different and it's important to remember that humour like fashion should be judged within it's own time.

You might have considered this already - so I apologise if thats the case.

I think coogan's funnyness comes out in a UK environment, with distinctly UK characters, accents, ect.
