I was thinking the same thing. It makes him that much more of a great guy in my eyes to know he was saying and doing this stuff even before 9/11. It's not that often you see a celebrity dedicate himself to a cause he obviously sincerely cares so much about. That clip was of a a critically acaliamed show The Job that spent only one season on ABC. Denis really did a great job on that show. He played a smart but paranoid cop who has problems at home, drinker, smoker, pill poper. He's still a good cop and he protects NYC. Perfect role for Denis and it was the launching pad for Rescue Me on FX. Good show. I'm glad Denis played for the firefighters and to see him still be funny and yet play for a good cause. Denis is a good guy. Heart's in right place.
