How strong is it exactly? I thought it would be pretty cool to attach it to the underside of like a thin desk or something so you can't see the platform. Would that be possible or not?
@aaron4820 It does take a while to find the 'sweet spot'. My first try was about 30 minutes... But it got easier and it is WELL worth it. Both hands under it and slowly lift it into the sweet spot. Nice...
@Nintendoboy888 Google the item "Fascinations Levitron Revolution" for the latest price. My first one was $100 and I got a second one when the price dropped to $75. Don't know... well, hold on...$84.95 on ebay and several other places. There are different models but the one you want is this one... trust me.
it use 3 hall sensor for X Y Z translation. Permanent magnet for lifting power. A basic proportional derivative to drive two H bridge and push pull electromagnet wired in X. partial demagnetization may occur on the base ferrite magnet by the high power neodymium.
The platform itself is a strong magnet. Yes it will change the field pattern if you put magnets on it, but it will just take a bit more to get it to the 'sweet spot'. Perhaps I will try it with my 'Buckyballs'. Now that I think about it, the platform magnet would probably have a pretty strong effect on the pattern you create.
I build a lot of figures with Zen Magnets / Buckyballs (5mm magnetic spheres). Just curious if the circular platform will levitate an object that is magnetic or does it cause problems. I thought it would be interesting to levitate some of my smaller magnetic sculptures for some cool photo shots.
hey man! i was just wondering if you could use it without the plug, like a regular levitron, or do you have to plug it in everytime(which would mean it's not just magnetic, unfortunately, but also eletrical...), and if you do need electricity, does it have a battery so that you can unplug it?
@totocolomb Needs electricity. It's a dynamic system so that it both repells AND attracts depending on need. Battery might work but I don't know the current draw.
With this vertical tilted object (using a rotor and propellers) and some improved electronics (for stabilizing the top properly) the Producer even could create a NOISELESS standing fan/PC cooler or flex , angle grinder, etc. I know that there need to be more develompment to achieve this idea, but what's your opinion could it be created?
@nna7yk Cost and power would be the limits. It could be done but you would not want either a fan blade or a grinder blade 'bearking free' at speed. Possible but not really practical. Good thinking however.
@Starcross42 I dont think the user's protection is such a serious problem in this case that can not be solved easily (for example developers could integrate a strong shield (or grid) into the device to prevent an accident, etc... ) but I think if the force-transmission couldn't require any physical connection then there would be some important area where the abrasions can be prevented or stopped forever, so I belive that not only for noisless solutions could this method be useful but ...
I belive that not only for noisless solutions could this method be useful but I can imagine a special machine in which there is no components with direct connections... Okay It's maybe the future and it sounds unrealistic (and not really practical) but who knows what tomorrow will bring
It's not really anti-gravity if you want to be technical about it, but it is still freaking sweet! I love this thing! I really want one, I have some pretty cool souvenirs I have picked up from my travels in Europe that would be amazing to display on this platform. Love it. Nice video by the way!
I read a comment about putting electronics on the platform such as a phone/ipod, and see that this could disrupt/ effect the device, but is there anything you could balance on the platform which you could then put the device on top of (for example, a small piece of wood). This might be a stupid question, but is there any material that would stop the magnetic force from being (absorbed?) into the device?
@Geeoorrgeee Magnetism works with distance so a piece of wood would not block the field, but the added distance would reduce the effect. This device will hold a couple of hundred grams so you could put a plastic cup and then your electronics and they would very likely be unaffected. I don't see the attraction of having an ipod or something on top of this.
Please help. I'm wondering if you can put electronics such as an iPod or phone on the levitron as I'm guessing it uses some magnetic field to levitate the object. I wouldn't want to mess up my iPod so I'm wondering if anyone knows. Thxs
@recon13531353 Yes, it does use an electromagnetic field as well as the platform itself is a very strong permenant magnet. So if you are worried I would suggest levetating something else.

@medvitz93 Yes. That is a cool idea. I took a larger one and 'tiled' it. Lost a little height but it looks cool.

now we need to transfer energy through air. And program the parts to rotate and change shape. Voilá, Programmable matter.

Does it rotate automatically or do you have to spin in manually?

is there anything like this where the object can levitate but without spinning?, the spin is cool but if its still it could also be useful
artwel123 3 months ago
@artwel123 Actually, the spin is the result of the object not being perfectly balanced on the magnet.
