extending welfare is the last thing this country needs. we need to find how to weed out those loafers who are abusing our welfare system and taking money away from hard working people!
So when the healthcare would be controlled by totalitarian institutions bent on making profit rather than saving lives or healing people, you think it would be better?
Totalitarian is a word that makes sense only when applied to entities that can use coercive, deadly force - we commonly refer to these entities as governments. Try rephrasing your question and ask again.
Totalitarian -- "of or pertaining to a centralized government that does not tolerate parties of differing opinion and that exercises dictatorial control over many aspects of life." This fits very well to the fundamental nature of corporation.
Cleary, you do not need deadly force to be totalitarian. Corporations have a tyrannical system of command, they are secrative and have no need to respect for the opinions of its employees in the operational structure or decision making.
As of Right now Our Health Care system is no better then What Farmers do to there Cattle. If something big happen to the Cow its is Put to death. But here they just send you home to die, then to help you. So they can keep all the money you paid in! Most Gov would make this better but our Gov tend to f*ck everything up for some God damn reason.
Back in the old days there used to be a very common medical practice called "bleeding". If you were sick (say you had a headache), the doctors would cut your arm, hoping that you'd bleed the sickness out. Needless to say, it often made things worse.
Obama's plan to "fix" healthcare is a lot like that. He says we pay too much for health insurance, so he's trying to bleed us through taxes to fix it. It won't work.
Great use of a medical metaphor to make your point! Here's another one:
"Government is good at only one thing. It's good at breaking you legs and then handing you a crutch and saying, 'See, if it wasn't for government you wouldn't be able to walk."
Just ask a Canadian about their health care. Expect to wait months for a emergency, non-urgent, and elective procedure. Currently in the USA, if I wanted to see a doctor I could visit one today.
America needs Capitalism, not Socialism.
That hood-rat is going to turn America into one giant slum.
The current US healthcare system is not one of free enterprice that a totally free market ould provide so the comparison can't be made. I live in Sweden and all I know is that our government healthcare suck and it's not getting better. Only worse.
Health care is right, not a privilege. No one should have to spend 50% of their income on health insurance. He is not proposing Universal Heathcare, but a form of it. Essentially it will lower premiums.
Providing health care is not a legitimate constitutional function of the federal government. As for your numbers, I don't think they're realistic. My family's health insurance is RIDICULOUSLY expensive, but it still only amounts to about 14% of our yearly income.
Besides, no one should have to spend more than 50% of our income on taxes, either, but we do. Between socialist demublicans pouring money into the welfare state and neocon republicrats pouring money into the military-industrial complex, it's a miracle we can even afford to eat, let alone pay for health care.
Taxing us more to lower our insurance premiums is not going to fix that.
Roger I would like to ask you a question. Just where exactly did you hear Obama proposed a universal health care system? As a Canadian I, and most of the industrialized world, would never consider expanding CHIPS and medicare as universal health care.
Amen, brother!

Clearly, you are an asshat. Corporations do not have the ability to exercise deadly force unless the GOVERNMENT GRANTS THEM THAT FORCE.

Ok fine, I'm making a stupid linguistic point anyway. The word I would use is tyrannical or oppressive. Sorry for calling you an asshat.

Watch the new Michael Moore movie Sicko. It gives answers to those questions.

That's so untrue. I am a canadian living in the US and I often travel back to Canada when I am sick.
I do not wait months for an emergency attention.
I rather have a run government health care than no health insurance at all.

So spending more than 50% of it on taxes is better?

Precisley what is "dumb" about my question.
And for what it's worth, I really don't want to go back to school. A masters degree was enough for me.

Awesome! I'm glad to finally find someone who speaks for the entire industrialized world. ;-)
Seriously, though, he himself has said that his plan would provide coverage to everyone in the country. That makes it a universal health care plan.
Unfortunately, increasing our taxes to lower our insurance premiums doesn't really fix anything. It's just socialist sleight-of-hand.
