  • @jumpingaijin Doesn't make his point here any less valid. The NCLB act was clearly written, to educators, by someone who has never held a position in a school system or even knows anything about teaching. Margaret Spellings has a political science degree, the idea that she could come up with a policy to help education reform is laughable.

  • For the record, Arne Duncan does not have teaching credentials either. Spellings's substitute gives her more experience as an educator. That is sad.

PS- Duncan wanted to pay students in Chicago for good grades. Any educational psychologist will tell you this is counterproductive.

I am a proud liberal and progressive. In my opinion, Arne Duncan is not the way to go when it comes to undoing the damage that this woman has caused.

  • I believe that Secretary Spellings should be prepared in education at the Master's level and have a background of working in a school as a principal or teacher. This would make her a better secretary of education.

  • Aren't you the libertarian?

  • Thank you, Mike Honda! Your questions are right on! NCLB has left everyone behind. Now watch out for those P-12, P-16, P-21, and P-21 Councils springing up all over these United States. They are scary and educators will be compromised one more time.

  • Spellings does not have a clue. Get rid of the NCLB Act. NCLB is an oxymoron.

  • I met him before! =D

  • Margaret Spellings is a vile sham who is out to destroy and privatize Public Education, not save it.

    Spellings is truly scum.

  • President Bush is more interested in ideology than qualifications. Bush is surrounded by people who can't actually accomplish anything but at least they agree with him.

  • I love Mike Honda! He's so smooth, so devastatingly polite. What a wonderful dressing down!
