@jumpingaijin Doesn't make his point here any less valid. The NCLB act was clearly written, to educators, by someone who has never held a position in a school system or even knows anything about teaching. Margaret Spellings has a political science degree, the idea that she could come up with a policy to help education reform is laughable.
If Congressmen knew what they were doing, we would not be in the mess that we are in. All Congress is beholden to the Military, Industrial, Congressional, Complex. Susan Eisenhower stated that upon leaving office, her grandfather wanted to use the term Congressional as an adjective in his famous "Farewell Speech" but he did not want to make enemies as he left. All of CONGRESS is bribed by lobbyists.... et al.
I believe that Secretary Spellings should be prepared in education at the Master's level and have a background of working in a school as a principal or teacher. This would make her a better secretary of education.
Thank you, Mike Honda! Your questions are right on! NCLB has left everyone behind. Now watch out for those P-12, P-16, P-21, and P-21 Councils springing up all over these United States. They are scary and educators will be compromised one more time.
President Bush is more interested in ideology than qualifications. Bush is surrounded by people who can't actually accomplish anything but at least they agree with him.

In 1950, American soldiers fought bravely to protect South Korea from North Korean invasion. 30,000 Americans died.
But Mike Honda is helping North Korea to destroy allied partnership between US, S.Korea and Japan.
Hey Mike, you are eager for helping veterans, why do you help KIm ong Il and insult those veteran soldiers fought at Korean war ?

For the record, Arne Duncan does not have teaching credentials either. Spellings's substitute gives her more experience as an educator. That is sad.
PS- Duncan wanted to pay students in Chicago for good grades. Any educational psychologist will tell you this is counterproductive.
I am a proud liberal and progressive. In my opinion, Arne Duncan is not the way to go when it comes to undoing the damage that this woman has caused.

Spellings does not have a clue. Get rid of the NCLB Act. NCLB is an oxymoron.

I love Mike Honda! He's so smooth, so devastatingly polite. What a wonderful dressing down!
