in the other match, bob missed the 10 pin and got to throw it over cause he blamed someone in the croud.. real sad... he converted and this is now still a tv record????? ........................
I agree with the whole john petraglia plastic ball thing, but I think bob learn wouldn't be completely shut out. He has strong ball roll but petraglia is just a phenomenal bowler, so yes, learn wouldn't stand a chance.... I do feel like bowling is becoming too technological and is taking the athleticism out of the game. That I know.
@cstrnutt2004 No, they don't. This is when bowling and the PBA, both on tv and otherwise, took a nosedive. Why? Because of the technology. You have Joe Blow sitting at home with his $250 ball that can basically strike for him, watching these guys throw 280 games AND LOSING, and he sits there and says "shoot, I can do that!!!" and he quits watching. They put these pros in an arena setting, with these balls, then give them a wall shot, and expect people to take them seriously? Puh-lease.
@nso1256 Though posing that question is proof that any answer will not benefit you, I will respond to benefit others. A sport or games purpose is to develop, perfect and showcase human technique, ability and endurance. When rules and/or technology diminish the role of the participant it fails to fulfill its purpose and will become stagnant and obsolete. (sigh)
@20alphabet Not a fan of Learn, but I think he'd do just fine. He went out on tour in the early 80s, so I think he's got plenty of plastic ball/early urethane experience.
Not that this doesn't happen often, us individuals just don't see it every day. This is outside-the-box thinking. It may be happening at a bowling alley in the northernmost part of Maine. But of course, nobody cares.
@Starcastle2009 I can appreciate the kind of pressure both bowlers were under, but greatest match? No. Strikefest, by way of high-tech balls and walled conditions. This is why the PBA on ABC went belly-up and continues to struggle to this very day. 279 and you lose? Another match that comes to mind, the Ozio vs Aulby match, where Ozio throws a 280 (or whatever it was) and also lost? Professional Bowling became a big joke after that.
@uncleshayne123 You must be queer. Only a fagot would would even bother asking a stupid question like that. And where did you learn to speak? "Where you from that she's gorgeous, ooo no thanks here." Caveman speak that took me a moment to decipher. Next time just keep your dimwit comments to your self and just respect what is probably the single greatest match of all time.
@Brian1969a No, he wouldn't "do just fine". Patraglia would send him packing.

Give them both plastic balls and see what happens. Petraglia would still be capable of 279 (or more). Learn couldn't compete in a scratch league.
