  • This recording sounds like it has been sped up, or played in a higher key than the CD that I have.

  • this song moves me so much its so great i covered it live once and ive loved it since then

  • i'm here for john cusack too (:

  • thumbs up if John Cusack lead you here! ^_^

  • Oh, Talking Heads going the 80s popular laughable style, no thanks mates, this is horrible version.

It's here the same band that made the great Fear Of Music and Remain In Light, very hard to believe it.

  • People who are trying to figure out whether this song is about a bar or a literal heaven are both right. Why can't a bar be heaven? Anything can be heaven. If the bar is fun enough, if it's filled with people you like, or even love, what's the difference between it and heaven? In this world of cruel intentions and greed, a place where worries are carried away, where you can have a drink, some snacks, talk to friends, sing kareoke badly, and just forget about everything bad is heaven.

  • looks a lot like cilian murphy...

  • @TheFinn57 Well yes, ten years or so before.

  • 39 people are going to hell!

  • @luckypunkno1 Only 39 people? Meaning nothing will ever happen for a truly, large amount of people?

  • @Hkepfer I was referring to the 39 dislikes ;p They're not going to heaven?

  • I play this on my bass guitar.... This song inspired me to learn bass guitar.

  • i heard this song was not intended for release, done between sets.

  • What the fuck is up with that first top comment? lol

  • @falaqdad15 Well both Queen and Talking heads are epic enough to have a giant concert in heaven together.

  • its about club culture and that nothing ever happens everyone leaves at exactly the same time ,everybodies trying to get to the bar, divvy yanks trying to be profound in the meaning

  • STOP MAKING SENSE?!?

  • Oh, one more thing, The name of the bar is "Heaven". So a statement of not believing in heaven is there because nothing happens when you are there.

  • Well folks, my take is that this song is about death and an opinion about what to expect. Everyone goes to this bar, (death) and nothing happens. Everyone leaves at "exactly the same time", (because you did)

At final peace cause "everything stays the same". So, implying nothing to fear....Lyrics describe death as having no afterlife, etc.

    Make sense?

  • is this on dvd?

  • Quality :D

  • Alla MIA CLAUDIA!

  • This great song is about a bar called Heaven. That's it.

  • that woman looks unstable...

  • Not one person has actually got a clue what this Song is about ?!.... So for the comformins out there, I will end up demeriting myself, So I can only give a little knolage as if I say to much I will end up being DEMERITED so much it will set.me too far back so here goes: It's about a catastrathy . And when the NONCOMFORMINS Are let in for (ONE) drink and find out it's lthere first and last drink. If only they would of listened in the first place..... But then again the new few END.... PS it

  • The best version of Heaven EVER MADE

  • whos singing the back up vocal??

  • a proof that a version can be much better than original

looking for "Cielo - Esclarecidos" in Youtube

version de "Heaven" por el grupo español Esclarecidos "CIelo"

  • Semplicemente una delle canzoni più belle che abbia mai sentito (soprattutto questa versione acustica)

  • When i first heard this song many years ago i just run out and bought myself a bass, and i learnt it. Its the only song i know. I dont need another.

  • Featuring 1/2 of the "TOM TOM CLUB". :)

  • great song

  • great

  • Please forgive me but, I want to lick the bass player.

  • Tina FTW lol such a babe, married the drummer...

  • @gards2 ...and, they have been married for over 40 years now.

  • oh the joy it would bring to see this show live...

  • I just listened to this song 905048 times. I'm in Heaven.

  • I didn't realise what a marvellous guitarist David is... that 'trill'..?? I can hear he does at 0:03, 0:07, 0:17, 0:35, & elsewhere, is beautiful. he's not even looking at his fretboard, just strumming along in "Daveworld".

Watching his fingers on his left hand, it's a nuance of chord work that is very subtle & a delight to listen to.

Imagine writing just one song this good in a lifetime... what a privelige to leave this on the Earth.

I hope he wakes up every morning satisfied.

  • Everyone shut up and enjoy the awesome. :)

  • awesome proportion of likes to dislikes

  • It is more of the state of heaven.... than an actual heaven

  • I believe in and have great respect for god, but I still really like this song!

  • heaven is closed, but i'll welcome you to hell... come join me

  • @bgolshahi1 agree with you all and the comments above. I was a bit drunk when I posted that and feeling moribund, my comment was way to brief to encapsulate my thoughts. Loss of loved ones is bleak when you accept they have gone forever, framed by the bullshit of religion which allows people to maintain the fantasy that you will see them again. Life is beautiful, but oblivion is bleak no matter what spin you wish to put on it. I am atheist fwiw.

  • Heavenish... 10/10

  • Atheism is so right yet so bleak. FML

  • @drchoc22 Atheism is NOT bleak. It's only bleak to people who haven't understood humanity, compassion and what we're all on this bloody planet for. Telling ourselves stories about how we don't actually *die* and we're not *really* gone when we're DEAD as a doormat is BLEAK. Not atheism...

  • @Spellbinder888 Hell yeah. I have this theory about how we're not waiting to go to heaven, we ARE in heaven. Our past life was the real one.

  • Tina Weymouth could make any track funky

  • i thank my philosophy teacher for introducing us to this marvelous song :D

  • I heard when you go to heaven Talking Heads and Queen have a battle of the bands that lasts forever.

  • @benjammin107

thats funny because I heard that nothing ever happens

  • @benjammin107 I saw this on the TV years ago, we all talked about the next day, not one bad track

  • @benjammin107 That's a beautiful thought man! I went to 'Heaven' nightclub in London ages ago. There were massive painted paper mache fish hanging from the ceiling :D

  • One of my favs.

  • such a good song

  • I must already be in heaven then. :)

    beautiful song.

  • so good

  • my local bar is called heaven, i wonder why haha i guess this must be the place, life during wartime is tough but if you take me to the river once in a lifetime i swear ill burn down the house, im no psycho killer

  • talking heads are brilliant band

  • Great track takes me back a few years, nice upload thanx.

  • LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE HOLE IN THAT BASS DRUM.. RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF IT TOO.

    WHY!?

  • this is a ruly beautiful song! x

  • If someone has a wake for me, I request this version to be played. Moves me more than any church service ever did. Any questions? ;-)

  • this is the kids i like when i feel bad

  • literally brought me to tears. nothing would be special if it was forever

  • The band in Heaven? Is this a song of literal heaven or symbolic good feelings?

  • @FlyingFuckstorm

    - Just goes to further endorse your ignorance and give us all a vital clue that you were born at the wrong time.... They don't call the 80's the decade of bad taste for nothing you know... so being the best of the worst really says SFA. If having "horrible taste" as you put it is my bag, then I'll hug it for dear life... and leave you to remain in light with the Britney's, Justins and whacko's of this world... good luck! Air can hurt you too! At Least I listen to Music!

  • Comment removed

  • Great social commentary ... live your life now! otherwise regret forever.

  • This Live Version is my Favourite! :-)

  • Great job...

  • great song

  • What a wonderful song!

  • I purposely omitted Remain in Light - Horrible!,,, All that precededed it though... Brilliant!

  • @zooreeka Enjoy having horrible taste, Remain in Light was the best album of the 80s.

  • 77' , More Songs about Buildings & Food, Fear of Music... 3 of the greatest albums on the late 20th Century 1970 - 2000. Anything else they did you can keep.....!!!! Fear of Music.... Brilliant!

  • @zooreeka You forgot Remain In Light. It seems to be their most forgotten album but it is one of their best.

  • Mmm...

  • 2:18 - Sadly, there's no heaven.

  • Love it.' Fear Of Music ' was a great album, one of many from Talking Heads.

  • Great song, but this is not the truth. A lor of wonderful things happen in heaven. That's why I' m looking forward to being there.

  • @ZLUGGO How do you know that?

  • this song will be played at my funeral!

  • This is a sarcastic song about the common idea of Heaven. At what point during eternity would living out your fantasies over and over again get stale? Our finite existence is what makes life worth living. This song pokes fun at the idea of Heaven and it is summed up in this very sarcastic line "It's hard to imagine that nothing at all could be so exciting, could be this much fun." Clearly David doesn't think Heaven would be all it's cracked up to be.

  • @trdbrglr Really if your just gonna go to heaven whats the point of accomplishing anything?

  • @Dontmakemecomeover5 Exactly.

  • @trdbrglr Who say's So?????? who quoted the conception of concious reality in a state of Imagination?..........who say's! Not Me! ;-)

  • @trdbrglr Well when James Lipton asked David what he would expect at the Pearly Gate's?...David replied that God would be....................? work it out find out! ;-)

  • @smilemediagroup I couldn't find the quote you mentioned here but I did find more than one quote by David along these lines "I'm of the generation or part of a generation that doesn't feel a connection to any religion or, more precisely, any established religion.". This quote gives me the impression that he might not be an atheist but that he would never be a person to try and establish some sort of idealistic picture of any afterlife and tell other people it might be that way.

  • @trdbrglr

I disagree. I don't think this song is simply a sarcastic jab at the idea of heaven. I think its his own interpretation of what his ideal heaven would be, and its much simpler. "Heaven, heaven is a place, a place where nothing, nothing ever happens..." Then he says, "Its hard to imagine that nothing at all could be so exciting." It goes in correlation with the chorus, heaven is a simple idea, unromanticized. Sounds like he entertains eternal recurrence rather than mocking heaven.

  • @knichole0412 David Byrne has been noted as being an atheist and anti-religion. What you have to remember about Talking Heads is that they were born of the punk rock scene. They held a lot of the same anti-commercial and anti-establishment ideals that punk rock bands did. The difference was that they were intellectuals and preferred clever and often sarcastic lyrics instead of the straight forward outright statement. This can be seen in a lot of Talking Heads songs just like this one.

  • @trdbrglr

Not sure. But the idea of heaven portrayed in this song, is getting drunk everyday waking up without a hangover and being able to do it over and over again. Yes sir, now that's heaven.

  • @trdbrglr Yes, this is what I have always thought about this song. I think its pretty clear; all the lyrics suggest this. More generally, I wonder if it is about the impossibility of being happy all the time.

    Its a bar also.

  • 29 people couldn't get to the bar.

  • great song

  • I hope I hear Talking Heads music in heaven! Bet Jesus loves it.

  • still the best concert movie ever ok bono

  • To me this song is a commentary on multiple lifetimes or multiple timelines or both. It's kind of like if we keep coming into the forgetfulness and the pain then Heaven must be really boring . Or maybe not boring but just a state of being where there is no doing only being therefore nothing ever happens as you can do nothing and only can be. It is said by man masters that you can experience heaven on earth if you can just be present in the now . Stop thinking and doing and just be.

  • makes for a lovely meditation

  • Was soll man da noch sagen, so ein schöner Song?!

  • one of the most beautiful song....

  • :)

  • I have such a crush on Tina!

  • I really like this song, I feel like he's talking about infinity and meaninglessness, the infinite repetition of party and kiss, written like decrees: "Everyone will leave at EXACTLY the same time". Once I had a fever delusion that the universe had ended and thought my consciousness would exist infinitely without any sensory input. At first I was really scared but for a few moments I just totally accepted my fate and felt really peaceful. I always think of that when I hear this song now.

  • juhuuuuuu Gänsehaut ohne Ende!

  • what is that mic his useing ?????

  • @colter5353 i dont think he needs one :P

  • wow, so simple yet so expressive and beautiful

  • especialy in the hook or chorus

  • am i so stoned or he sounds like david byrne?or david byrne like him?....sometimes

  • @billybobbeen1234 yeah youre definatally stoned seeing as how that is david byrne

  • 28 people are going to hell.

  • I love this song so much. If you search for "Heaven" on YouTube, you get a million super religious songs singing about how much they love god, but this song is just like a giant metaphore, which doesn't even mean anything in particular.

  • Heaven is a place where Talking Heads are singing 'Heaven' infinitely.

  • @Heidib0X38 It's hard to imagine that someone can be that talentted.

  • @Heidib0X38 YAS in some bar along a stretch of desert highway where none of the truckers are even paying attention

  • Checked out James yukich's work *

  • Cool man, I out James yukich's work, live after death is amazing! I think what I meant to say was this performance didn't need any props in particular, just something I didn't expect when I watched this. I've been on YouTube for years and I have been getting a few comments back from this video, thanks everyone.

  • how many times i have listened this song.....

  • Watching this video...it;s interesting to notice the expressions on Tina Weymouth's face as she glances at the weird and wonderful David Byrne.Rumour has it that the two'' don't get along'' these days...but I've never been into gossip, personally. Thanks for posting this awesome song.

  • "My name's David Byrne, I'm a musician, and sometimes an artist... and other things" He's so loveably awkward and tentative when he speaks. You just have to love these guys, David Byrne is once in a billion lifetimes! :)

  • this song is so pure and simple. tina's smile so pretty.

  • Here again enjoying your views curious and anxious for more and more.

  • Tina Weymouth, from Milwaukee, yes.

  • this is such a great movie stop making sense i bet they were great live :D

  • @edwardelricfangirl1 You don't need to bet - they are really very good - live

  • Ah, but, metaphysically speaking, Heaven is outside of time, so that the kiss would be infinite, as would be the song, as would be the joyous moment -- not an endless loop, but a perfect moment that never goes away -- maybe, kinda -- or maybe there will be 80 virgin angels for me to have sex with (at once?) if I blow myself up as God wants me to, to kill other people who believe in Him -- wait, what??! Looks like things stopped making sense a long time ago --

  • Bellissima!!!!!

  • the talking heads need to get back together and just repeat this tour....everything about this tour was awesome

  • @clinor1111 You're clearly a complete cunt.

  • @clinor1111 his oufit is unique and the performance was far from horrendous so i am not to sure what you are talking about?

  • 28 people don't like heaven

  • I've once heard that Byrne wrote all the music for Talking Heads: the chords, the bassline, etc. The other band members only played what he wanted them to play, but did not contribute in the writing process. Is that true? Anyone knows?

  • @kubaszymkowiak nope nope nope. there was actually a huge dispute about songwriting credits on remain in light - you can read abt it on wikipedia. they also used different methods of songwriting, from jamming and sampling that to 'traditional' songwriting. so while i believe byrne was the primary songwriter, they all took part in the writing process.

  • @kubaszymkowiak That is oingo Boingo, not Talking Heads

  • Comment removed

  • I saw this tour at The Hollywood Bowl Beautiful and unforgettable.

  • The one band I regret not seeing live, and I've seen hundreds.

Just as well I can watch the greatest live gig film ever.

  • @ianw2112 have you seen david byrne solo? he's brilliant, and still does the talking heads stuff to great effect. amazing show.

  • gorgeous song!

  • who is singing backup?

  • @chillaxinWITbra linn maybry

  • Great band. Just bought this concert on DVD and it's very hard to get tired of watching it.

Tell you what, though, Tina Weymouth has the most bizarre bass technique I've ever seen. Totally inefficient - I love it!

  • THIS SONG WAS IN THE MOVIE PHILADELPHIA

  • Damn! This is perfect.......just and nothing more than....perfect.

  • Great song for a funeral heheh.

  • Lynn Mabry's backing vocals are sublime.

  • i remember the version of Simply Red. this is so much better

  • @lawoma read a book.

  • Were is heaven ?

  • @kocean1 On the seat of a motorcycle.

  • la poesia a volte ci salva dalla vita, a volte è più necessaria del cibo e dell'aria.

Poetry, sometimes, save us from the life, sometimes we need it more than foods and breaths

    once more thank to TH

  • when i hear this song i feel right. great great tune

  • anyone know what bass she's using?

  • makes so much sense

  • A beautiful song. It will always be on my top 10. David is a genius and Tina is perfect.

  • If you really understood David Byrne and Talking Heads there would be no comments :)

  • I think this song is about how perfection doesnt mean anything. I personally would rather be me with all my inconsistancies then some perfect person.

  • NUT of Cefn cribwr was here 22/4/11 Everyone is trying to get to the bar. The name of the bar, the bar is called CEFN The band in CEFN plays my favorite song. They play it once again, they play it all night long. CEFN is a place where nothing ever happens. CEFN is a place where nothing ever happens. There is a party, everyone is there. Everyone will leave at exactly the same time. Its hard to imagine that nothing at all could be so exciting, and so much fun.
  • "if it makes me a dickhead to make jokes about a crowd yelling when they see equipment, then you must be a pussy."

What does that even mean Buck?

  • @tuell01 Yeah, kinda gay if the crowd is yelling for an empty drumset, neglecting the awesome performance going on in front of them......dummies...

  • Has to be one of the all time greatest rock n roll films ever made. Thanks guys..." The band in heaven plays my favorite song."

  • @kocean1 I think it is /the/ greatest rocknroll movie ever made!

  • hey all,,

i love this song and am learning the bass for it. it looks like she playing open notes but tab i have doesnt show any open notes. Any one know?? also is she playing wiith her thumb on her fret hand or is it just the way tina holds it???

  • bob sucks

  • @BNCMusicFactory chris blows goats

  • :)

  • Why the hell is the crowd cheering for equipment being moved on stage. "HELL YEAH! I SEE A DRUM SET!!!"

  • @BucksStudent

Oh you dickhead. Have you ever been to a live gig Buck?

  • @tuell01 Yes, and I find most of the crowd annoying: Talking during songs, getting plastered, getting high, dancing so you can't see. Yeah, I've been to a live gig, and if it makes me a dickhead to make jokes about a crowd yelling when they see equipment, then you must be a pussy.

  • Why is it when I googled "Talking Heads nothing never happens" I get a bunch of clips of Sunday morning political commentary?
