I can remember when they first showed this (Christmas 1975) we couldn't watch it because there was no signal...dunno if it was industrial action or a problem with the transmitter. Had to watch something on BBC2 instead (I'd love to know what that was, I was in a right sulk at missing the Goodies) Any road, they repeated it early in the year after Christmas and I actually got to watch it. This scene has stayed in my head ever since...especially Graeme's ace hat.
They were trying to create the perfect pop group by using the best bits of everyone else's act: Tim - Elton John's Glasses Bay City Rollers' trousers Bill - Roy Wood's hair Gary Glitter's chest hair Rod Stewart's trousers Graeme - The Rubettes' cap Bee Gees shirt? Not sure about the rest - though I do recall they kept Donny Osmond's diamond-studded teeth in a box
Fantastic!! Enjoying a JimiHendrix special on ABC Extra digital radio this weekend, and it reminded me of this hilariously wonderful version by the Goodies!
the GOODS have done a teriffic satire here on the mindless, meaningless bollocks that was UK ROCK in the mid-70s. Even today, there are millions of real-life suckers who act like the braindead idiots who make up the rock-concert audience depicted here. Why punters are so easily led and impressed [as so skilfully satirized here] is a weak human condition that deserves the merciless ribbing so brilliantly represented in this sterling GOODS clip.
never mind the ANARCHY in GRUNDYS' studio from the PISTOLS in DEC 1976......this DEC 1975 goodies anarchy absolutely nails the true spirit of ROCK REBELLION.

For 'Tom' read 'a bald fucking twit from some nondescript Buckinghamshire town who runs a shitty pub and cries his eyes out whilst typing meaningless bollocks on the internet'.
Fantastic! I just realized why. Rock concerts is such a weird thing by itself, so to make fun of it you must really go over the top... and they did. And still, without the policemen it wouldn't work!
Before The Goodies I didn't even know Wild Thing have ever been released. It was also re-recorded by Reg Presley and Susy Quatro ... but I can never get this version out of my head. What was Wild Think anyway? "It's big, it's black, it's furry and I be afraid of it" [Ronnie Barker]
It's been over 30 years since i've seen this and I can't believe this still exists, it's made my day. Thanks go to whoever preserved it for posterity, it's brilliant and takes me back to my happy childhood. The Goodies deserved more recognition than they got, and were far better than Python. As for their version of Wild Thing, it's comes a close second behind the Jimi Hendrix renditions!
@withnail555 The Goodies had far larger audiences than Monty Python during their heyday, they had to create coherent plots that lasted a half hour episode unlike Python which did sketch comedy which is far easier, their output as a collective was far greater than Python overall, they were also the fifth biggest grossing pop act in Britain in 1975. The Goodies were great in their own right and lose nothing in comparison to Python.
What wonderful clean comedy with no smut or dirty jokes. The Goodies were one thousand times funnier than Monty Pythons and havent dated one bit. It is a shame they wont make any more programmes it would be just fantastic to see little Bill, Glorious Graham and Sexy Tim on tv one more time. Maybe they could do a Grandad Goodies or something and give us all a good clean laugh without any filth or drugs jokes.
I've waited thirty-one years to see this again! Saw this when it was first broadcast. We laughed like seven hyenas turned inside out and covered with chicken feathers! Thanks YouTube! Thanks ivorykisses!

Does anyone know who played the drums and guitar on this? The Goodies themselves didn't, I guess. Can't find any info on the Mighty Google ;)

@wildplus Guitars - Alan Parker, Joe Moretti & Bernie Holland. Drums - Tony Carr & Billy Rantim (source - the 'The New Goodies LP' sleeve Notes.)

This is pretty much the same as the orgy scene in Derek Jarman's Jubilee, only more erotic.

@ergomarshall Tough call, Hendrix or Goodies. Both are perfect, in their own way. Neither could have done the other's.

Why is it so significant that these Goodies are singing 'WILD THING' to a bunch of fangirl-ish 'bobbies'?
TriviaFreak 3 years ago
You need to see the whole episode to get the context. The role reversal bit was the nub of it though.
