You seriously having this argument? Sum 41 is different to Green Day. They both fall within the pop-punk category, they're both dancing kind of rock, but Sum 41 lately is a lot more political. Their albums are going through a kind of evolution - Sum 41 are getting better, but Green Day are selling out. Green Day are no longer punk. Green Day has only one guitarist, and Billie's parts are better and more technical than Deryck's rhythmic parts. However, Steve is a way better drummer than Tré, if you ask me. I don't care whether a band is punk or if they classify themselves that way. I just think it's funny that all of the bands I like are classified still punk.

And keep in mind, there's pop-punk, punkrock, etc...

Green Day and Sum 41 both have "punk" roots but the term punk is thrown around too much these days. theyre both bands and good ones at that, depending on your musical tastes. However Billie Joe Armstrong is a very good guitarist capable of amazing solos...check youtube or listen to their older stuff..like 1,039 smoothed out slappy hours. Cheers Mate!

@SturgisMcLaren GreenDay songs aren't that complex. Brainstew is about 6/5 can't think on top of my head power chords. The solo within that song consists of the same p chords as well. Sum41 Songs like In To Deep change their routine and style (more fingering oriented like the intro or the fast powerful power chords and lightning fast solos).
