Her accent here is light American at the start and becomes English at the end. As someone who is also English and American, that can be easy to do, and I know how annoying accusations of inauthenticity are.
She did start out in America for her earliest years, and then had some childhood in both places. None of us get to choose these things, though. It's inspiring she has the courage to keep Britain close to her heart and remain classy despite the haters.
then why the "fake" accent since 1993 on american talk shows ? i can appreciate the point you are arguing but it doesnt make sense that after x files she goes to the uk and suddenly starts to speak in a accent
Wow, she came across like a bitch there. Plus, to me (as a British person) her accent sounds slightly fake. I know she was born here, but she moved to the US when she was 11 and lived there till adulthood. She therefore had an American accent and you don't just switch like that because you come back over here.
Her accent has never sounded entirely American to me; there was always something weird about some of the consonants. In some recent interviews she slides gradually back and forth between British and American English, so I think it's a continuum. But I'm neither British nor American, so what do I know? :)
@Paul2377 Actually my understanding is that she moved to London when she was two and moved back to the states when she was 11. And because she was being picked on in school because of her accent she forced her self to speak with an American accent. And if you listen closley to her American accent you can still hear her british one slip out.
@ember514 She's American but when you live in another country for along time you start to pick up on their accent. She grew up in England and now lives there.
Crack up how she's british XD

I'm obviously biased being English and having a similiar accent but she sounds a lot sexier here.

awkward...he calls her american and then she comes out all "I'm british"

@allthings01 I'm aware, but it's just a little humorous because she obviously was a little weird about it.
