Since humans beings messed things up, lions are smaller today than they would have been. So NATURALLY tigers are NOT smaller. In fact, all subspecies that were larger have been wiped out, & the ones living today are smaller. There is always a chance something will happen in the natural world. When one looks over these two and their abilites, they are almost the same. But since the tiger is stronger and larger; experts give them the edge. I'd say a tiger wins in these fights 7/10 times

By stronger they mean stronger due to the fact that they are bigger. Living by yourself just makes you more independant. Lions are naturally more agressive & they fight more to protect the pride. Despite what a lot of people think, male lions take part in hunting 50-60% of the time, especially with buffalo. Anyway tigers are not more active, ALL cats rest around 18 hours a day.

dude your a joke. lions kill rhinos or elephants way more often simply cause they live in prides, & the elephants in africa are twice the size. if the mane is big enough to make the lion look bigger than the tiger than of course its good for deflecting bites. a tiger would get lost in the giant mane. plus the maximum difference is 100 lbs. some sources comparing the two even believe there to be no difference.

Youre very wrong. Northern bengal tigers & south african lions are almost the same weight, lions in the past as in the early 20's or so were even bigger than they are today. they are smaller due to trophy hunting wiping out larger males from the gene pool. you can read about the bergman's rule on wiki. Its hard to explain WHY but animals living in higher latitudes are larger, given good circumstances, than the ones in lower lattitudes, very clear to see with brown bears.

So Im continuing. Tigers are larger due to the bergman's rule, since they live in somewhat higher latitudes. That explains the weight difference between north bengal/south bengal ...& south african/east african lions. It also explains why siberians are bigger than their extinct counterparts of the same subspecies the caspian tiger. now about the fat ratio, it is a well known fact that siberian tigers have proportionately more fat deposits than bengal tigers or african lions.

This is due to the harsher, colder climate which requires more layers of fat to survive. Now recently amur tiger conservation groups like project siberian tiger have doubted the claim of amur tigers being the largest, & believe bengals to be larger. So, much of the weight of the siberian tiger is fat, now compared to bengals, they are the same or smaller. so it is NOT muscle that makes tigers bigger. It is 3 seperate things.
