I support whaling for two reasons - (1) subsistence purposes only and (2) scientific research. That is the issue with the whalers in Australia. They whale under scientific permits, which require using (yes, selling) of all whale parts. Its a loophole.

I am from the United States and do not support commercial whaling for any reason. This is a specialized food that is eaten by the privileged around the world - the majority of Japanese folks cannot afford it. It is also sold to other countries. I support whaling for two reasons - (1) subsistence purposes only and (2) scientific research. That is the issue with the whalers in Australia. They whale under scientific permits, which require using (yes, selling) of all whale parts. Its a loophole.

According to regulations of the IWC, the whales captured in the scientific research whaling are obligated to be processed as much as possible after researching. In other words, the IWC forbids the investigated whales to be thrown away. So it is reasonable to put them on the markets, because the profit is allotted to the scientific research program.
