Lithuanian brothers and sisters I know that every family in Lithuania has or had relative, who was direclty touched by this hurtful event. My family is also not exception. Sometimes we make special evenings to remember those times and my grandma tells her story and this song is also well known for me.
@djpomidor Russian occupation? Well, the Lithuanians certainly didn't occupy themselves. As to songs smelling Nazi to you, you must have the nose for it, especially, since you have listened to the Russian (USSR) anthem all of your life.
@djpomidor the whole soviet stuff came from Russia. And the main leaders were Russians. All the decisions were made in Russia... so it's allmost the same thing. At least for Lithuanians :)
1945 II world war ended???, you deeply wgong my frends, inconceivable horror began..., 1945-1960, in Lithuania war began in 1945, we lost more than 1 million our citizens, (we have only 3), three fuckin bandits in Jalta in 1945 roosvelt, cherchill and stalin had decided death sentence to eastern europa
I am curious about the resistance in the 1960's. My family left Lithuania after WWII. I was told those remaining kept fighting. I assume they died quickly. I didn't know the war went on so long.
Maybe you can get a hold of a copy of "Fighters for Freedom" by Daumantas, published my Manyland books in 1975. Daumantas himself was a Freedom Fighter and it's a memoir of true events. What's very sad is that they had no idea that when they were communicating with the British, Kim Philby was passing everything along to Moscow. Hence my name - DamnKimPhilby.
If you know anyone in Lithuania maybe they could send you a small illustrated book published by the Museum of Genocide Victims, which is a guide to their exhibitions. It too makes interesting reading and shows that even if the last Partisan was killed in 1969, resistance and brutal suppression continued right on into the 1980s.
@DamnKimPhilby ... Paldies for all your videos ... this one is really pleasant. Keep up the anti-nazi anti-soviet sentiments. Bloody russians should be deported from the Baltics.
@DamnKimPhilby ... went to the 810 riga festival, big concert, 20.08.2011 ...what a blast. Really made me question how Latvian am I.... after 65 years.
Hey ... I (we) walked over a bridge and gave Lithuanian soil a few pats of friendship.
Curious about the photos. Were they taken during the wars and are they photos of the actual Partisans?
My ancestors fought against the US and their policy of extermination then assimulation in our own country. Oppression in any form is still tyranny.
I have a care2 page. Would you mind if I post these songs on my care2 page? Also, do you have a synopsis of the historic conflict between Lithuania and Russia?
Ah-ho in my language & Acui in yours.--There are no words in my language for Merry Christmas or Happy New Year.--Again, do you have historical information on the Partisan warriors. I understand they fought to the very last man. Feel proud they did this for their people.--I am an American Indian, Kiowa Tribe. An old Kiowa saying says that "a warrior stands up for his people". Many natives fought in WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet-Nam, Iraq, & Afganistan. They do it mostly for their families and people.
I have utmost respect and admiration for your people. Ah-ho! Here is a short synopsis: The Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact Stalins ultimatum and Soviet occupation Sovietization The reign of terror and mass deportations The 1941 revolt Nazi Occupation Armed resistance Administrative resistance The Holocaust in Lithuania Refusal to form an S.S. Legion
contin. The Return of the Soviets Forced collectivization Arrests and genocide The NKVD and its methods Lithuanians in the Gulag Industrialization in a planned economy Russification Religious persecution Brothers of the Forest Partisan Resistance, 1944-69 Diminished armed resistance until 1977 Soviet military operations Missions to the West, waning hope and betrayal
In its occupation of Lithuania from 1941 to 1944, Germany saw to the murder of more than 70,000 of Lithuanias gentiles and 130,000 of its Jewish citizens. But whatever oppression Lithuania suffered during World War Two and throught its history pales in comparison to what Russia perpetrated.
The first occupation of Lithuania, lasted from the unopposed crossing of Soviet tanks and troops of the Lithuanian border on June 15, 1940, to June 22, 1941, when they retreated after German armies implementing Plan Barbarossa attacked It was a period when thousands were arrested, tortured, and murdered. When the Russians fled after one year, the NKVD, or security forces, continued the torture and murder of prisoners taken along on their retreat for days, through eastern Lithuania.
I assume that NKVD is an acronym. What does it stand for? In this paragraph are you saying that both the Germans and Soviets at different overlapping periods occupy Lithuania between 1940 and 1944? Are you saying that when the Soviets retreated from Lithuania in June of 1941 they abducted Lithuanian POWs and murdered them during their retreat? If this is the case, I can scarcely believe the Lithuanian people endured such a inhuman injustice. Your nation was forsaken from all four directions.
1. The NKVD were the predecessor of the KGB, which I assume you know was the secret police and uniformed armed units of political repression. 2. The USSR occupied Lithuania in June, 1940 until June, 1941, when Germany attacked Russia. The Germans occupied Lithuania until the summer of 1944, when the Russians came back and remained until 1991.
3. Yes, not only POWs but anyone who had been round it up and imprisoned on suspicion of anti-Soviet activities. All were tortured to death at several locations, the most notorious was Rainiu miskelis (Rainiai Forest).
Although in their year of rule thousands had been killed horribly throughout the country, the Pravieniškių prison still held 11,500, Vilnius 3,100, Kaunas 3,800, and Marijampolė 750 inmates. The first year of Russian occupation witnessed the deportation of 30,000 individuals, including families, to Siberia on the nights of June 14, 1941, alone.
The second period of Russian genocide lasted from the summer of 1944 on July 13, the Soviet army took Vilnius, on August 1, Kaunas, although Klaipėda was not taken until January 28, 1945 torture, trial by the KGB, murder, and deportation abated when Khrushchiov came to power, but continued until 1958, followed by normal totalitarian oppression.Mass deportations continued until 1951, accounting for more than 350,000, or one inhabitant in ten, exiled to Siberia, where more than half perished.
Roundups by NKVD and local collaborators, known derisively as stribai, always took place in the middle of the night. The number of victims each year is well documented.
I understand. Striba were traitors to their own people....Historically, my people had Striba too. Eventually, these people paid the ultimate price and were prayed to death by powerful medicine men....As the saying goes, "politics makes strange bed fellows".
Soviets formed from local criminals (and so on) units of so called "Istrebiteli" (destroyers) they with units of NKVD(KGB) were shoving unlimited cruelty. And these "Istrebiteli" and people started to call them stribai tu despise them.
The wholesale deportations ended in1952,when collectivization was completed, but deportations of families continued on a smaller scale until1955.Along with deportations of the civilian populace came the suppression of armed partisan resistance, whose ranks were decimated from an estimated 150,000 active fighters at the end of World War Two,to a handful by 1958.These numbers dont include a supporting infrastructure, many of whom were also killed or captured and sent to the prison camps of the Gulag
20,000 farmers who supported the partisans were executed between 1944 and 1946, alone. One example is the family of resistance fighter Juozas Lukša. His four brothers and 75-year-old father were killed, and of his other close relatives, eleven were killed in prison and twenty were deported. The last partisan was killed in 1977.
Nieks mus nenugales... N I E K S.. Musu karta jau nepamena gyvu partizanisku kovu... ... Bet mes gyvi esam- musu valstybelei- kuria myliu- partizaniukams esu dekingas... AR YR DA JAUNIMO LIETUVELEJ kuriai svarbu ka parasiau -37068754043 . ROMAS

Ne del garsinimo verciau ir dejau situos ir kitus video. O del svietimo. Daug zmoniu nezino istorijos, o dar daugiau zino ja klaidingai.
Uzsikoncervavo tam, kad veliau... iseitu i pavirsiu? Kai to reikes?
Tikru tikriausia tiesa.
That's why I added this information in "more info". This video features a Lithuanian folk song which was often sung by the freedom fighters against the Soviet Occupation from 1944-until the last one fell in 1969.
Oh man. It's really hard to get a bloody answer to any question here. I see you have a strong habit of answering with a question to a question heh. Which does not serve my simple goals. I was asking about the literal translation of the title "Deviuliau Mano". Get it? No sense of humor present either, man. Well, I am Russian yes, but I learnt that to most Balts it's=invader. Whatever... no offense taken. By now.
Literal translation. Let me see, if subtitles are not enough for you, should I put a voice - over for you?
Unlike you (quote: "most Balts"), I don't have any predisposed opinions about any people, regardless of their nationality, hence no apology given. Cheer up, mate. Life is too short to be so bitter.
Hhaha. This is hilarious. You haven't answered my question after all. In spite of not having any "predisposed opinions", lol. Sorry to have thought you were male. It's a prejudice really: wars and stuff relate to males for me. :) And I stick to what I said,- most Balts really do. And it's really not a predisposed opinion , it's just an observation, I swear.
What accually was your question? I read all discusion and the only thing i could understand from your writings is that you know what lithuanian word "kantrybė" means, but what it has to do with name of this song wich you can hear in the first line i couldnt understand, like i couldnt understand why do you need lithuanian subtitles when song is in lithuanian...
O ja ja ja ja, Dievuliau mano, Oi, reiks man, reiks man vainelen jot. Tevelis senas, brolelis jaunas, Oi, reiks man, reiks man vainelen jot. Trys sesereles kaip lelijeles, Oi, reiks man, reiks man vainelen jot. Pirma sesule zirgu balnojo, Antra sesule pakamanojo. Trecia sesule vartelus kele, Vartelius kele, zodi kalbej: - Oi broli, broli, broliukas mano, Kada parjosi salelen savo? -Kai prastovesi kalne kloneli, ... Kai prarymosi stiklo langeli.
Btw, it's ok you don't apologize, never expected that.... just thought you might simply answer any question of mine, which sadly didn't happen. So, I give up haha.
Nice song. I am Russian myself and still I like the way it goes, although I don't really understand what they sing. Whatever...Anyway, I think they aren't singing the KANTRYBĖ lyrics provided here,- different song, right?
I am not sure what you are asking, dear. I have added the subtitles, perhaps you are not sure about the meaning of the song? Most grateful for your comment and for watching the video nevertheless.
Ehmm. Well, I just thought at first that the lyrics (both in Lithuanian and English in "more info") were to this song.. But I guess that this one is called "Dievuliau Mano", while the one you put the lyrics for is KANTRYBĖ/Patience, right? I was just wondering why you didn't put the Lithuanian lyrics to the actual song that you uploaded here...Anyways it's a nice one.
Well, in my view, more info means more info. And not more of the same :) I just didn't think is necessary to add the lyrics of the song, since I've added the subtitles. But if you think I ought to do so, I'd be more than happy to do it. Many thanks for your feedback!
Norečiau dar pridurti prie sarunas999, jog iš visu baltų genčiu kurias Mindaugas prijungė prie Lietuvių tik vienus Jotvingius (dabartiniai dzukai) papirko sidabru , nes neįstengė nukariaut, va cia dzukai pasižymi savo kariniais sugebėjimais.
Labai grazus video. Mano senelis buvo partizanas. Jo kovu draugai pasakojo mano mociutei, kad jis persautas, liepe savo koju draugams palikti ji guleti, nes jiems ikandin seke NKVD. Pasidejes dvi granatas nutrauke ju saugiklius , prisiartinus rusams, bent jau taip jo burio partizanai pasakojo, kurie gulejo netoliese, o paskui pasitrauke.
This song nearly brought a tear to my eye. As a proud Aussie and supporter of ANZAC day, I say - Lest We Forget to anyone who fought tyrrany and oppression.
A great song! - Listen to "I was only 19" by Redgum.
Dainavos apygardoj sakydavo "sulilikviduot" :) koks galu gale skirtumas; jei vienas lietuvis uzmustu nors viena isdavika (rusu FSB) "dazniausiai" lietuviu pragyvenimo lygis butu kaip Liuksenburge

Man paprastai atima zada, kai girdziu neteisybe, mela.

PAGERBTA. Bet labai liudnos šių dainų minorinės intonacijos. Su tokiomis gedulingomis dainomis karas be šuvio pralaimėtas. Jokio kovingumo.
as tai grynas Zemaitis, visa seima is zemaitjos gludumu (skuodo, Plunges rajonas). Tai atsakyti tavo klausima, AS TIKRU TIKRIAUSIAS ZEMAITIS:)
Aciu, ir sekmes kuriant siuos filmukus. Visada malonu atsitraukt nuo korumpuotos ir istvirkusios siandienines kulturos ir paziuret bei paklausyt maloniu dainu bei prisimint patriotus. kai busi zemaitijoj uzsuk i musu pagoniskus susitikimus, kur mes uzkuriam pagoniska aukura ir prisimenam didzia ir tyra pagoniu kultura. Tokie mes jau tie zemaiciai, nemegstam keistis ir niekada nepamirstam savo pagonisku saknu.
zodis is kitos kalbos todel ir skamba juokingai.
nusiramink. Pagarba tau. Visi esam is Baltu zemes.
Butent, labai gerai pasakei. Jie yra parasyti, bet ne lietuviu istorijoj. Paziurekit i pona istorijos profesoriu Bumblauska. NUSISNEKEJIMAS AUKSCIAUSIO LYGIO!!!
As jau pries daugeli metu nustojau jo klausiusi.

Occupation and Annexation by the U.S.S.R.
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
The first occupation of Lithuania, lasted from the unopposed crossing of Soviet tanks and troops of the Lithuanian border on June 15, 1940, to June 22, 1941, when they retreated after German armies implementing Plan Barbarossa attacked It was a period when thousands were arrested, tortured, and murdered. When the Russians fled after one year, the NKVD, or security forces, continued the torture and murder of prisoners taken along on their retreat for days, through eastern Lithuania.
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
I assume that NKVD is an acronym. What does it stand for? In this paragraph are you saying that both the Germans and Soviets at different overlapping periods occupy Lithuania between 1940 and 1944? Are you saying that when the Soviets retreated from Lithuania in June of 1941 they abducted Lithuanian POWs and murdered them during their retreat? If this is the case, I can scarcely believe the Lithuanian people endured such a inhuman injustice. Your nation was forsaken from all four directions.
saycoin72 2 years ago
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
3. Yes, not only POWs but anyone who had been round it up and imprisoned on suspicion of anti-Soviet activities. All were tortured to death at several locations, the most notorious was Rainiu miskelis (Rainiai Forest).
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
Although in their year of rule thousands had been killed horribly throughout the country, the Pravieniškių prison still held 11,500, Vilnius 3,100, Kaunas 3,800, and Marijampolė 750 inmates. The first year of Russian occupation witnessed the deportation of 30,000 individuals, including families, to Siberia on the nights of June 14, 1941, alone.
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
The second period of Russian genocide lasted from the summer of 1944 on July 13, the Soviet army took Vilnius, on August 1, Kaunas, although Klaipėda was not taken until January 28, 1945 torture, trial by the KGB, murder, and deportation abated when Khrushchiov came to power, but continued until 1958, followed by normal totalitarian oppression.Mass deportations continued until 1951, accounting for more than 350,000, or one inhabitant in ten, exiled to Siberia, where more than half perished.
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
Roundups by NKVD and local collaborators, known derisively as stribai, always took place in the middle of the night. The number of victims each year is well documented.
August-September, 1945 60,000
February, 1946 40,000
Summer and fall, 1947 70,000
May 22, 1948 70,000
March 24-27 and June, 1949 50,000
March, 1950 30,000
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
What was the "Stribai"? What does Stribai mean?
saycoin72 2 years ago
@saycoin72 Stribai were the collabourators.
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
Striba was working for russians and thei wass killing lithuanian soldiers. stribai wass lithuanians too
Chiibbe 2 years ago
I understand. Striba were traitors to their own people....Historically, my people had Striba too. Eventually, these people paid the ultimate price and were prayed to death by powerful medicine men....As the saying goes, "politics makes strange bed fellows".
saycoin72 2 years ago 2
Soviets formed from local criminals (and so on) units of so called "Istrebiteli" (destroyers) they with units of NKVD(KGB) were shoving unlimited cruelty. And these "Istrebiteli" and people started to call them stribai tu despise them.
LaukineShiaure 1 year ago
The wholesale deportations ended in1952,when collectivization was completed, but deportations of families continued on a smaller scale until1955.Along with deportations of the civilian populace came the suppression of armed partisan resistance, whose ranks were decimated from an estimated 150,000 active fighters at the end of World War Two,to a handful by 1958.These numbers dont include a supporting infrastructure, many of whom were also killed or captured and sent to the prison camps of the Gulag
LucrBor1519 2 years ago
20,000 farmers who supported the partisans were executed between 1944 and 1946, alone. One example is the family of resistance fighter Juozas Lukša. His four brothers and 75-year-old father were killed, and of his other close relatives, eleven were killed in prison and twenty were deported. The last partisan was killed in 1977.

Btw, what is Deviuliau Mano? It's not "Songs of Freedom", correct? Because I believe that song is daina in lietuviska, ehm.
Well, gods bless you. lol
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
That's why I added this information in "more info". This video features a Lithuanian folk song which was often sung by the freedom fighters against the Soviet Occupation from 1944-until the last one fell in 1969.
DamnKimPhilby 2 years ago
So... Deviuliau Mano = songs of freedom after all..? Sorry to bother, I guess you hate talking to Russian invaders :D
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
What do you think "Songs of Freedom" is? Are you a Russian invader?
DamnKimPhilby 2 years ago
By now.
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
correction: Bye*
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
Literal translation. Let me see, if subtitles are not enough for you, should I put a voice - over for you?
Unlike you (quote: "most Balts"), I don't have any predisposed opinions about any people, regardless of their nationality, hence no apology given. Cheer up, mate. Life is too short to be so bitter.
DamnKimPhilby 2 years ago
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
You are still asking me for a translation of the song. And I will continue to ask you kindly to read the subtitles.
To generalize people it's a dangerous thing. Have you met all people from the Baltic States?
DamnKimPhilby 2 years ago
Ehh...Stay cool, no offense.
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
No offense taken.
DamnKimPhilby 2 years ago
What accually was your question? I read all discusion and the only thing i could understand from your writings is that you know what lithuanian word "kantrybė" means, but what it has to do with name of this song wich you can hear in the first line i couldnt understand, like i couldnt understand why do you need lithuanian subtitles when song is in lithuanian...
LaukineShiaure 2 years ago 8

SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
Nice song. I am Russian myself and still I like the way it goes, although I don't really understand what they sing. Whatever...Anyway, I think they aren't singing the KANTRYBĖ lyrics provided here,- different song, right?
Be well.
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
I am not sure what you are asking, dear. I have added the subtitles, perhaps you are not sure about the meaning of the song? Most grateful for your comment and for watching the video nevertheless.
DamnKimPhilby 2 years ago
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
Well, in my view, more info means more info. And not more of the same :) I just didn't think is necessary to add the lyrics of the song, since I've added the subtitles. But if you think I ought to do so, I'd be more than happy to do it. Many thanks for your feedback!
