@austjb its cold thats why your wearing ashort sleeve shirt and what looks like cargo shorts. also, got the longer barrel for better powder burn yet your usin .38 sp... i got one word for you sir. TOOL!
@fordfan09 Thanks. I posted this video about three years ago with the hopes that people would make personal insults. You've contributed a lot to society today.
Not as bad as some DAO pistols I've shot. It's long and heavy, but it's fairly smooth and consistent. I can keep all five DA shots on paper at 15 yards. Any further away than that and I'd probably have time to shoot it SA.
haha yea wiskey,,, and leagal beagle w,e its a gun for when there right next to you or close,,, u wont need more than 5 ,, its not like shooting from 1 feet,, u wont miss, this is a last chance gun pretty much
.38 specials are pretty tame in 4 inch or more barrels. In a snubby, it does kick noticeably. .357 magnum will have strong recoil, especially in mid to short barrels. More than a .45. It is also ear splittingly loud. If you fired it in self defense without ear protection, you could count on instant hearing damage. It will also have a pretty big fireball of a muzzle blast. It is lots of fun at the range.
Many people load .38 special +p in a .357 for self defense use.
^^^ If you fired it in self defense without ear protection, you could count on instant hearing damage.... And the perp can count on instant drainage...LOL
I purchased a S&W 640 (Hammerless version of M60 with 2inch barrel), though it's a 357mag, I will only be using 38+p for recoil control in rapid fire. Got it to support my Sig P220 and P239 as a BUG and as a primary carry weapon for in the pocket us when shirt can't be untucked. Traded in a Kahr MK9 and Kel Tec 32acp for the smith, the Kahrs are not reliable enough IMHO to bet your life on... I will stick to military and police service weapons when it comes to semi autos.
Is the Model 60 a formidable self defense weapon? Looking for something particularly easy to handle and EASY to conceal. Im such a noob when it comes to guns. Why did he first cock the gun when firing and then he did not?
357 in a 3" barrel is an extremely formidable load for self defense but is VERY loud and has heavy recoil. I certainly wouldn't want to fire full-load 357 out of a lighter gun. 38 special +p is still a decently powerful load that is much more controllable and enjoyable to practice with.
The gun can be fired either single-action (hammer back) or double-action (hammer forward). Single-action is much more accurate, but in a defensive situation double-action is much faster.
I use the OWB (outside waist-band) holster that they sell on the Smith-Wesson website and I find it to be easy to conceal under an un-tucked button-front shirt (which is all I wear anyways.)
It is the chambers that get dirty, because a .38 special is slightly shorter than a .357, so crud ends up at the end of the chambers.
Any .357 magnum revolver can safely shoot .38 special. It won't work the opposite way by design, because the .357's are too long to fit in a gun chambered for .38 special, and the extra pressure would be unsafe unless the gun is designed for it.
I am [still] pondering: An SW Model 620 4", 60 3", or 60 5". The 3" is less accurate, the 5" has large space between the barrel/cylinder, and 620 is a perfect gun (& larger).
I like the Springfield XD's ergonomics but keep on turning to revolvers for simplicity, ease, reliability.
The 620 has a wonderful trigger.
A 4" barrel is minimum but I'm attracted a snub nose for ccw; I'm small hands, & somewhat skinny. I'm a t-shirt guy who doesn't dress baggy.
Had an early mod 36 3" and it wasn't very accurate. I have or had a 4" Ruger sp 357, an early S&W32 long and a 624 3" 44spl. All were more accurate than the little 36. It was tight when I was through with it and sold it to a friend. My 624 is my house gun loaded hot. I tried hunting pigs with it as a backup but it was too heavy and I now use the Ruger, also loaded hot with 180 silhouette bullets for penetration. Don't use a pistol on pigs if you can help it.
I didn't notice the gloves because I'm not a woman and I don't immediately recognize accessories.

@Username7260 Really? I usually just shorten it to "fag."

@Username7260 I don't see how him wearing gloves has anything to do with his sexual orientation.

@mattdogg65 That's what we men do. We wear shorts & t-shirt in cold weather. I even saw a woman doing it once. I was impressed.

in a self defense situation, is 5 shots all you need? I would be scared of having to rely on only 5 shots.

if you've got a .357 and they're right on top of you, you'll only need one. And tell the cops to bring a mop and broom, haha!

You should never practice with what you don't intend on carrying in the gun.
I have a Colt Lawman Mkiii in .357 and I load MAX charge .357 loads when I practice with it.
Recoil is not bad.
Iraqveteran8888 3 years ago
Is there a lot of recoil with the Model 60? Thinking of getting a revolver. And also, are you folks comfortable with only 5 shots?

Forgot to add... if your going to use the gun as a CCW piece, the single action thing detracts from real world use.

firing 38's thru a 357 ruins the bore, take it from a gunsmith.

looks so crisp
i am thinking about buying a model 60 5inch with the rosewood grips and target sights
it would be nice to shoot .357 for defense and .38 for plinking
this gun looks crisp and nice which only makes this S&w revolver more desirable to me.
ntrudr800 4 years ago
You can handload max charge power house .357 ammo for less money than you would buy .38 special.
