clearly the talker for the coal industry has no empircal data to offer creedence to his diatribe. Mr. Kennedy does. one wonders how much coal is imported from China and India. we are not supposed to comparing the US to third world countries. the US set itself up as a country to be emulated. the talker has offered nothing but wild assed guesses whilst Mr. Kennedy sites sources that can be researched. the talker is only interested in profit, nothing else. global warming is fact, not guess.

this guy is insane - why not talk about free energy that is clean and never talked about, never funded. this is hardly our only choose. yes we all go to school to learn how to be greedy and profitable to the point we destroy the planet. take a look at the world, you won't be able to talk about this soon, there will be no freedom anywhere all caused by corporations like the coal industry - this guy is medically insane and makes zero logic sense - kennedy should be nailing him harder
Chinas coal plants are more efficient and less polluting than America's.Their technology far surpasses ours.China is also getting billions from U.S. companies(Goldman Sachs for one) for green energy.
All I ever hear from Republicans about these selfish greedy devious bastards is "They keep people employed" as if that was enough to cancel out all the harmful stuff these folks are responsible for.
@ruthc48 no he built a pipeline from his house to a clean water source 3 miles away. that was after he dumped millions of gallons of toxic sludge into old underground mines, which went into the groundwater. several locals nearly died of kidney failure. he lives without a soul.
The chinese and indians eat their fish uncooked out of the "china sea"?? Perhaps he's thinking about the Japanese, and their consumption of Sushi?
Anyway, Kennedy's point was about the mercury pollution of the rivers. Deep water ocean fish, such as sardines, don't have really have the mercury issues.
And the fact that the burning of coal is unhealthy to the people is undenaible. Hell, they even know that in the Middle Ages, when King Edward banned it near London.
What the man is trying to get across to us is that we must realize this industry needs to be considered archaic and to invest in our future by insisting our government officials deem the necessity of building a national grid to support a new and cleaner form of energy. Those who are standing in the way of progress need to remember the others who have fought to effect change. Change is good and sometimes change needs to be changed.
Yea and Kennedy is not? I just heard him say at around 9 minutes that China realizes that coal is the biggest drag on its capitalist economy and that green energy is the future. LMAO, only an absolutely fucking retard would make such a statement, China is building a new coal plant every month and has openly stated it will continue to heavily rely on coal in the future and the industry will continue to grow.
Kennedy is right on target, Blankenship is typical corrupt corporate self-interest. All one has to do is to go to the places where mountaintop removal mining has happened to see how it has devastated the environment, the economy, and the people. I recommend reading a book by Michael Parenti called "Democracy For The Few."
something something terrorists blowing planes up somthing something JFKjr is evil... APPLAUSE... Im not sure what hees talking about but terrorists are evil so Blankenship wins!!!!!!!!!!!
Read Michael Shnayerson's book 'Coal River' and learn what a true scumbag Blankenship is. His scumbag credentials go beyond the total environmental degradation of the West Virginia landscape his mining practices have wrought. Blankenship has busted unions, promoted poor safety in his various mining operations and, by underhanded illegal tactics, threatened the lives of children.
Blankenship is a true capitalist psychopath w/o a shred of regard for any human life save his own.
'Coal River' is a great book & Blankenship a true psychopath. Of course, he wouldn't get away with half things he does get away with if it weren't for the lax environmental regulatory agencies (mostly under Bush 2) & the complicity of West Virginia politicians, including Robert Byrd. Coal is big business in WV. It has an economic stranglehold on the state & Blankenship is its chief strangler.
There are many books about the struggles against mountaintop removal coal mining. Check out Amazon.
Thank you for the book suggestion, I'm an MSHA certified miner. I had to undergo the training to do a non-mining contract at a mine in the UP of Michigan, an iron mine.
It blew my mind how an area the size of a county was simply raped.
This cocksucker deserves to be tortured to death. He's an example of what's the matter with this country. . . last time I checked "well everyone else is doing it" was a justification for children. Mom would beat my ass for that one.
As I wrote, many books have been written on mountaintop removal coal mining; 'Coal River' is just one of them. If you go to Amazon, search for the Shnayerson book. You will see many related titles.
There are persons with West Virginia roots going back before the Revolution whose family property is now surrounded by coal mined land. The environmental degradation, however, is just one part of the story. More eye-opening are Blankenship's labor practices.

The biggest take-away: RFK Jr. argues for a free-market economy where the producer pays all the costs.
If coal paid all the costs, it's about 70% more expensive than solar or wind or efficiency. Check out the Harvard study released in Feb, 2011.

Blankenship "I'm not sure we have externality costs. or if we do, what they are"
Oh my god, he just said that, with a straight face. This guy is the most amoral THING I've ever seen.

Best of luck.

Hello Bunn .
Check out a video titled 'Massey Coal's Don Blankenship Shows his Hand' here on YouTube. There are other Blankenship videos as well.
He also has his own YT channel on which he tries to whitewash his image.
Best.
