there is no better explanation then .....do it yourself (if you have the snow during the winter) BUY SOME SLICKS, DRIVE IN SNOW 120 THROUGH TOWN AND THEN PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL.... AND YOU WILL STOP EVENTUALLY... (IN YOUR KITCHEN) .....YOU PEPENE93 RALLY HATER :d hehehehe
This means that if you have a low surface contact area (as is the case in narrow tires) then you will have a lot of pressure on the studs to dig in the snow/ice, so better traction
well, thats def true, but i doubt they get enough pressure to dig in all the way to the surface underneath the snow anyway, so wouldnt they try to grip the snow itself as well as possible?
(plz dont take me as a hater, im just trying to figure out exactly y they do it)
Rally racing is the most challenging sport out there

is it just me, or are they using reallly narrow tires? if so, y are they doing it?
pepene93 2 years ago
i thinks it cuz wide tires dont do as well in the snow.
aluminumfalcom 2 years ago
yea, that is the best explanation...but i still dont see how...
pepene93 2 years ago
narrow tires cut through the snow, unlike wide tires which float on top.
they are also probably studded

well, ok, they probly have better side traction, but dont they accelerate/brake much worse?
pepene93 2 years ago
on that aspect im not completely sure.

Pressure= force / surface contact area
This means that if you have a low surface contact area (as is the case in narrow tires) then you will have a lot of pressure on the studs to dig in the snow/ice, so better traction
