  • I made this today, my first Cooking with Dog recipe as a long time subscriber! It was hard--converting the measurements drove me crazy--but the result was worth it. Thanks for the recipe and very helpful video.

  • @AlfishKK they give it in grams and oz, wth are you using, they provided metric and non-metric measurements T_T you weighting in stone? lol

  • @laeth1988 In the United States, we don't use grams or ounces. We use cups/table/teaspoons. We CAN do ounces, it's just much easier for us with cups. A lot of our measuring cups have ounces and cups on opposite sides, though.

    I guess it's because it looks like melon. We have some meals here with the name "false" or rather "fak" in it, like "falscher Hase" means something like "fake rabbit" cause it's suppose to replace the rabbit when they had none (in the middle age)

  • @MsSunhappy Its called melon bread only because of the line marks on top. They look like the lines of a melon so thats why its called that. ^-^ Melonpan can be made with melon extract but the original flavor is without.

  • Omg, i have made Melonpan today, right after i have seen this video, and let me tell you something, it was worth the work and the waiting

    It tastes SO awesome <3 I love it, my best friend will come over later this evening and i'm gonna give her one Melonpan too, cuz she loves japanese stuff just like me :)

  • What's the purpose of throwing the dough onto the surface?

  • @somesortoftheist The purpose is for the dough not to be sticky anymore. You can just keep on rolling the dough inside of throwing it, but both ways work. Then it needs to ferment. You can just keep on a warm counter for like an hr or so or you can use ur regular heat on low heat and put the bowl in there for the dough to ferment. I do that at home cause i dont have a proof box. hope this helps.

  • @watimsweetie Thanks! I noticed it being sticky when I first made it. Balanced it with some flour instead (probably hurt the consistency though). I will definitely try this technique next time i make this. (Which is friday ;-) They were delicious after all)

  • I'm going to make it, but instead of bread, I will wrap the cookie dough around melon.

  • OKAY so I tried the recipe today ! It took me 3 hours and half, i broke one of my plates and a glass container. My melon pan are not as perfect as shown on this video, i also had a hard time with the mesurement gave in here but i can say that it is worthy !

    My melon pan are soooo goood ! i'm going to try it again and again until i can make it perfectly =D

  • @rosaviolet it takes me about 4 hours to make melon pan. I've noticed that smaller batches like this usually taste better and are easier to work with. Maybe try adding 1/8tsp of vanilla or lemon extract (melon if you can find it) to the pastry dough. It adds a nice subtle flavor. You may need to add 1/8tsp-1/4tsp more flour though to avoid it being too sticky since it's already super difficult to work with.

  • @Gukychan I'd say the hardest part was the throwing and kneading of the dough. I followed the exact mesurement the first time and my dough was way too sticky, i tried to keep on kneading but it was impossible. When i tried the second time i followed my own mesurement, i put a bit more flour and it went all good.

  • @Zineter50 Well, 3 and a half because I had to do 3 resting time for the dough instead of 2 because when i put the cookie dough it altered the shape of my melon pan because it was too soft when raised. And i let it rest for 30 min instead of 20 because i wanted biig melon pan (haha i'm too greedy). But the second time it only took me 2 hours and a half =D !

  • @yerlis95 If you knead a sticke dough for some time it will become "non-sticky". It also depends a bit on the kneading-technique which will help you to keep the dough from sticking on your fingers. Adding flour will make the dough too hard. Just try it and dont be afraid of some dough sticking on your fingers :D

  • @poi2shayne There's no melon in it... it's just "Melonpan" because of its shape and slices. Even those that are sold in the supermarkets just taste like sugarbread. :))

    Although there are flavored melonpans- with melon filling. xD

  • @TheHikaruChronicles cake flour has less protein in it then regular/SR flour i think.

    should be able to buy it from regular grocery stores, anywhere you can buy baking goods as well
