Ich Troje. It was the Polish entry to the Eurovision song contest in - I think - 2004. Give or take a couple of years. It is sung in German, Polish and Russian.
Wahnsinn, ich wusste gar nicht, dass du deutsch sprichst. Я очень рад!
The birthday of seven friends on Seven/Seven/o'Seven. Nifty, huh?)
OK! Maybe you can go to the 08 08 08 one? The surefire place to know what is going on in the German community is to subscribe to AericWinter's videos - which are also well worth watching for their own merit.
It was good of you to publish footage of you interviewing people from the Gathering. That's what youtubing is all about. It was so great to meet you and your lovely family.
And here's a toast to you... with some great Polish wodka I happened to come into possession recently. Prost!
You captured the flavor of your gathering. Excellent video and now listed in my favorites. I have always been impressed with people who speak several languages. Wish I had concentrated some of my efforts in that direction, but we all have our successes and failures.
Precisely. I taught German to an old aged pensioner with no languages in my year before university, and in a couple of months she was reading Heinrich Heine.
Hi Davey - awesome video! Sorry once more to mistaking your lovely daughter for a little boy because of her short hair.
... But BTW: That was not the Funkturm, that was the Fernsehturm - or how the Berliners call it "Der lange Lulatsch" in the former East Berlin at the Alexanderplatz. The Funkturm is the one in the former West Berlin at the exhibition center ("Messegelände").
Aha. I'm always getting them muddled up. But I heard an amusing story once about this one, the Fernsehturm. After JP2 was disallowed from visiting E. Berlin during the days of comblynism, the then just finished Fernsehturm started reflecting the sun in the shape of a bright Christian cross over East Berlin. They called it "Die Rache des Papstes" or "Revenge of the Pope". The real Funkturm always reminds me of a sawn off version of the Eiffel tower.
My mom told me that, and she actually from Berlin. ... OK, she grew up there in the early 40ies and left Berlin in 1961, so perhaps this has changed a bit over the last 45 years.
The Germans have done a great deal to make themselves lovable again, and so of course we do love them and their country. When I first went, as a little boy of 13, on a German exchange, my grandmother was dead set against it, but these days pretty much nobody takes that attitude. 30 years have elapsed since then, and time heals all wounds. In a sense it's a good thing people die of old age, because otherwise we'd still be bitter with Norway for the Vikings.
I think the fact that we haven't started another land war recently against the rest of Europe has helped boost Germany's popularity on the continent somewhat. (c;
An interesting and nice natured gathering by all accounts. I find your coverage informative and entertaining. Many thanks.

Actually only tourists call it "Der lange Lulatsch" :P

BTW - blush ... I just noticed I got it completely wrong, I recalled this childhood memory the wrong way.
So, once and for all correct:
The Fernsehturm is the one with the globe in Davey's video at the Alexanderplatz.
The Funkturm is the one at the ICC - and that one is nick-named "Der lange Lulatsch".

Yup. That and voting for Merkel instead of Schroeder! Angie is a lovely leader to have for any country.
