I think this song is about overcoming some barrier which must be specific to Noah's own experience.... not letting it slide/slip by, and speaking up...it all seems to come together at a definitive juncture of self-awareness and assertion. The lyrics reiterating 'work out' & 'got to do what you got to do' reinforce the haunting pressure that seems to be forcing him into a decision.
