I used to think what a great coach Bobby Knight was, that he could win on any level and that he was a tough coach. In retrospect coach, they should bury you upside down, but finding which end is the azz might be difficult.
As a proud IU alum from the Knight years I can say that Bobby Knight is still raging egomaniac and an embarrassment to IU. He was a great coach until the early 80s but the game and its players passed him by because he was utterly unadaptable and stuck in his own self-righteous worldview and the past. He's a contemptible man who is a part of history but has little relevance to the game as it's played today. Any Power Five team would crush the vaunted 70s teams today.
i have followed indiana college basketball all my life, grew up in southern indiana.bob knight is the greatest coach ever IMO. i stopped following indiana after 9-11-2000 the day I.U fired him. yeah he was tough, but he got the job done.alot of players transferred away as well, but alot stayed.brillant basketball mind.
Can you see this guy as a Drill Instructor in the military? I personally think he is more General or Admiral material. He makes Patton seem timid in comparison. Anybody who could play ball for him, probably could make it through anything. Players that are getting a scholarship should not get off easy, with Bobby Knight, noone does.
He was a helluva coach, and he is a helluva man. One of the few real men left in the world right now. Yeah, he was blunt. He didn't pull any punches. Why? Because he was that damn good. He's f*ckin Bob Knight. Why would he say all this stuff and not sugar coat the truth? Because he could. All his critics were pretty much a bunch of people who couldn't look past that rugged exterior of his to see his pure genius as a coach and how good of a person he really is. That's my opinion.
Not a single recruiting violation, demanded a higher GPA of his players than the NCAA while other coaches look to make it lower. In many ways he was more honorable than many.
There is only one Robert Montgomery Knight. Broke the mold on that guy. He was always fun to watch ..... i'm not from Indiana nor do I know anyone who even went there but I must say,,,, what a memory I have of him and his famous comments and such. I always remember how much he got out of his kids. When you watched them play, you knew he was squeezing everything out of them.
CLASSIC BOBBY KNIGHT, FUCK I LOVE THIS. I WISH THE AMERICAN AND CANADIEN PEOPLE WOULD SAY THIS TO THE CRIMMINAL POLITITICANS THAT ARE RUNNING OUR COUNTRIES.
The last coach to take a Division 1 school undefeated threw the regular season win his confrence tournament and then hold up a national championship at the end of a year if I was a player and knew i could play for a coach who had that compassity i wouldnt care wtf he said bc i know at the end of the day i would be BETTER and WE would be WINNERS
BK is the best coach ever. Don't agree? Entitled to your opinion...Just as I am MINE! But at least I can point at lifetime wins and winning record as well as three championships, while you can point at him as a PERSON, while I point to him as a COACH. I happen to like him as a person as well, and that's my choice.
